Last time I visited Burghley it was for the Three Day Eventing and I walked the just over 4 mile course to view the 27 fences. When Sandie1961 suggested I might like to join her for a running event I thought she said 7kms and thought it might be fun to run around the park and see it from another perspective. It was, in fact, 7 miles and the route included quite a bit of the surrounding villages and countryside, included a big hill (clearly Lincolnshire is not as flat as it might seem!). My preparation was a bit hap-hazard, but RED FEB seems to have made me a bit stronger and a little faster but I had not run more than 5km for several months. I thought to be on the safe side I would Jeff it (with a 5 min run / 2 min walk ration).
I completed the route in about an hour twenty five. Felt very happy with my performance and most of the time felt comfortable in my running (although the wind was adding to the challenge) Had a bit of a worry in the last mile and a half with feeling a bit light headed, but think I just need to look at my nutrition and find a solution for carrying jelly babies on a run.
But what I have taken from the morning at Burghley was the amazing feeling of running with wonderful people, of seeing some beautiful views and of having the most brilliant time! Hugh thanks to Sandie, TailChaser and cheekychipmunks for being my partners in crime and making it a wonderful occasion. I’m looking forward to meeting up to do something similar very soon.

That’s a beautiful photo of Burghley House, such a gorgeous location. And then to have it on your bling too! Definitely one to remember for years to come 😍
It sounds as if you all had so much fun. Well done everyone 👏
A brilliant weekend all round shakes, and you should feel very proud of yourself, Jeffing or not. Burghley House looks quite magical. I know you get to see TailChaser and Sandie1961 quite often but to be able to run a race with them and cheekychipmunks is something quite special.
Great to see you Shakes! And as I said, your running is so much faster than mine! Just as I caught you up in your walk breaks, you trotted off again leaving me for dust! Brilliant. 🎉🎉🎉
Saw a few of the fences, but with a height of one and a half metres and a spread of nearly 3 metres, I think I would need a competent horse to even try.
Aw it sounds as though you had a brilliant time! I used to love watching the horse trials on the telly, so what fun to run there. And 7 miles rather than 7k! Fab 😊🏃🏻♀️🤣.
Thank you. Not many of the jumps are there at this time of year, but it was lovely to run post the famous lake. I was looking forward to trotting over ‘lion bridge’ but sadly it was covered in sheeting as it is undergoing renovation.
What a great post Shakes and a lovely picture of you all as well! It looks a beautiful place to rub - but 7 miles? Hmm maybe I’ll pass on that! Well done to you all!
