A new route....and a new tool in my toolbox...

Running...that was my first thought this morning...hmmm ‘I wonder where DaddyCav is working this morning, maybe I could cadge a lift and run home??’ 💭 I’ve done this many, many times & now that the children are older it’s much easier just to disappear off for a quick run...well, when I say ‘quick....!!!’

So this morning we were chugging away in the van when DaddyCav asked where I wanted dropping off, I thought I’d just run along the main roads, as usual & make my way home but then Daddycav suggested a route that I’d never been on...we have walked part of it with the children but not all the way so he explained where it was and where it would bring me out so, intrigued and always hungry for a new route, I said my goodbye & hopped out of the van & set my timer for my 5 min warm up walk, which was only for the muscles as there was really no warming up to be done this heat is beating me to my runs every time!!

My watch buzzed to let me know it was time to run & I must say, I was keen to get going...it was quiet and a bit cooler as the shade of the trees were like a parasol over my head...this really was turning out to be a lovely route...& then....a hill...’oh ohhhhh, I’m too warm for a hill’ I thought as my temperature had crept up, as it does, quite quickly...”oh well, it’ll have to be a run/walk hill, don’t want to burn myself out just yet!!” so that’s what I did...I ran till I could feel my head about to burst & walked the rest, at the top started running on the flat and this continued for about 2k..the hill at the end was sooooooo steep there was no way I could run it, I was sure my head would spontaneously combust so again, I ran/walked (mostly fast walking) my way to the top...at the top I had a breather...I was pinker than a pink person in pink town on pink day!!!

Anyway, I started again on the home strait...across the main road, passed the butty shop, the smell of bacon tempting the gremlins that had caught me up...”go away, I’m running home” was my mantra for the last 1km...the driveway was a very welcome sight, unlike my face to passers by I’m sure!!! But, it was a face that had done some hard work this morning and a head that had had a few battles along the way...so it was a face to be proud of...I was wearing my pink face like a medal!!

At one time, if I’d have had to stop and run/walk or walk a hill, that I must say are NOT my fav part of a run I’m not good at them, I would’ve been soooo cross with myself but now & this is what I’ve learned on here and I do preach it myself but it’s taken me a long time to actually practise it, a run is a run...it’s hot...you’re allowed a little break...you’re not going to get shot down from above for having a little walk break and it CERTAINLY does not change the fact that you’re a runner..no matter how far or fast.

Be kind to yourself and be careful in this heat...turn your run into something that works for you...if you’re struggling, stop and sort it out...if you’re too warm, stop until you feel like you can start again...

That’s what I did this morning, I ran to suit me...& I feel so much better for doing it that way...& just look at that gorgeous Yorkshire scene, what’s not to love about being a runner??? This could’ve been my ‘personal worst’ as Roxdog suggested his latest run was but it didn’t turn out that way because I tweaked it to suit me....that’s my new tool for a run...a ‘running tweak’ and I shall be using my ‘running tweak’ whenever it’s needed...

Happy running everyone and remember...you can’t drink enough water 😉😉😉

This is laden with awesomeness.

Firstly...'..I was pinker than a pink person in pink town on pink day!!!' Well, I want to live here!! 💜

Secondly, 'I was wearing my pink face like a medal!!' Is a lovely way of explaining things 😃

Thirdly, 'that’s my new tool for a run...a ‘running tweak’ and I shall be using my ‘running tweak’ whenever it’s needed...' I'll be keeping this in my head from now on. Thank you for a really great post!

Haha....I don’t know where pink town is but I would def fit in there!! It’s my fav colour...well, actually purple is...wait no, it’s pink...ok, it’s one of my fav colours but maybe not for my face!!?! I’m surprised nobody has run an ambulance for me over the years, I thought I would just be like that while I was completing C25K but no, it still happens now...so what else is a girl to do but make it her medal?!! Lol

Lovely post and a lovely run. I love the idea of freedom to stop if we need to, especially if it's hot, or we have a few niggles.

I love the challenge of running.

As I mentioned in my post earlier, I have a new mantra - I don't need to identify myself as a runner, that is just a label, but I run!

Very envious of your beautiful scenery and running a new route is so refreshing isn't it!

MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toRoxdog

Thank you Roxdog ...I stop and tighten my ponytail...take my jacket off...put it on...take a pic...Doesn’t mean I’m not running..& often a little stop means we can run further...

I like your style..you don’t identify as a runner...but you certainly are one x

Aw thank you roseabi ...hills vs heat are an energy sapping combo HUT where there’s an uphill there’s usually a downhill 🤣😉 xx

Love, love, love this Mummycav 🥰🥰🥰!

This is the epitome of what running is about for me. It’s for the fun of it, not the continuous pace and distance. Nothing wrong with intervals!! It’s simply having all of the joy of running and not making it a chore or punishment. When the body says keep going, we do that, when the body says ease off, that’s ok too! 😁😁👌🏽❤️

A Running Tweak sounds a useful tool to me Mummycav especially when you encounter the dreaded double H....hills and heat ! I’m sure Pink Town will make you an honorary citizen after that performance 😂 go and treat yourself to a bacon butty you’ve definitely earned one 🥓 🏃‍♀️ 👍

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toCouchphoenix

Haha..I might just be the pinkest member of pink town, I can prob be spotted from space after this kind of run!! I will be treating myself to a bacon butty in the morning with my best friend, we’ve been meeting at the roadside in March, setting our chairs up on the pavement doing some socially distancing bacon butty munching (Made by her) and latte drinking (made by me) while catching up on latest events...although, being back in lockdown we can’t really go back to the same spot, we’re going to have to ‘tweak’ it and go where Kirklees and Calderdale meet and sit on our relevant sides!! It’s a bit bonkers but I don’t fancy a fine!! I love my Friday mornings!!

Well I hope you enjoy your lockdown lunch of bacon butties on the border 😋

Pink is good, let’s hear it for pink!! Super post Mummycav it sounds as though you had an awesome run and you’re so right, it doesn’t matter if we want/need to take a breather at times. We tell newer runners that it’s not a competition but then force ourselves to keep going exactly as if it was! I did 10k at a really slow run on Monday but stopped and walked during my 5k notParkrun this morning - and I’m really glad I did! I love your picture - what a glorious place to run!

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toOldgirlruns

That’s true Oldgirlruns ...keeping going seems to take precedence over everything when sometimes it’s just impossible, especially in the heat...sit down, cool down...then start up again, taking up where you left off..still running. Well done on your slow 10k and your Run/walk 5k not park run...brilliantly done x

Lovely view and great sentiment in your writing - tweaks and being kind to ourselves - definitely high in my agenda! Well done you for trying a new route and getting out in the heat! 🙂

Love love love this post!💖

Definately the way I hope my running will take me as I begin the journey back. Those little breathers make all the difference. Kudos on those hills MC!

Happy running 🌻xxx

Awww, thank you Bluebirdrunner ...you have heard me time and time again...watched my journey, heard all about the bad runs and the good and have picked me up when I’ve been down so if my tweaking tool can help you then that will be a right grand old prize for me!!! Anything to help my buddies back to tip top position xxx

All hail Lady Pinkington of Pinkshire 👍 Thank you for a fabulous post and for opening up the possibility of using your new tool. I'm going to borrow your running tweak as I often end a run rather than pause it if something doesn't go to plan and then beat myself up over not persevering.

I must admit hills are not my fave and where possible I avoid them.

Enjoy your well deserved catch up and butty and thanks again for inspiration 🥵

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toAllbarron

I know exactly what you mean Allbarron ...I found this lovely forum 3 years ago so everyone who was on here already that are still here & there are many of them, have listened to me give chapter and verse on good runs and bad ones, well I’ve decided that tweaking will avoid anymore of those bad runs...if my legs want to run further then I’ll let them but instead of burning myself out when i can’t quite manage a long one all in one go I will use my new tweaking tool, that way, I will finish my run on a high and more importantly enjoy my outing too 😉😊 it’s a win win

“Pinker than a pink person.....” 😂

“Be kind to yourself.....” 👍🏼

“I ran to suit me....” 😊

“Running tweak....” 🌟

What a super post. I agree with every sentiment shared. Well done MC 🤗

Awww, thank you Hidden ...if I can at least make one person feel better about a run by just planting a little tweak seed then I’m a happy bunny x

Love this! Super post. So much we can all learn from this and to top if off.. those views. How can you not enjoy being out and running in that. Hope you're a little less pink now 😉

Mummycav profile image

I know, it’s so beautiful with the rolling fields and dry stone walls...not that I didn’t notice it in my previous life but now, I just soak up the views and nature much more and feel so much more a part of it...my pinkness soon disappeared when I stepped into my freezing cold shower!

Have a great weekend Mum22boys 😉
