Plump up the cushions on the Injury Couch šŸ›‹

Remember that ankle ā€œtwangā€ I posted aboutā€¦..?

Ended up in A&E after physio suspected a stress fracture. Fortunately it isnā€™t fractured, just a sprain, but (long story short) they were concerned about the residual lump/ strange tingly sensation on my foot left after an injury 2 years ago and further investigation for a Mortonā€™s neuroma now lies ahead. Ho-hum. Thatā€™s the 10k with my sister out the window šŸ˜•. There will be other 10ks.

Plump up the cushions on the Injury Couch Oldfloss šŸ˜¢. 2 weeks off running for startersā€¦ā€¦

šŸ˜€ well after today I have another 5 days off work so might even get some running in to write about

ā€¢ in reply toSueAppleRun

I look forward to reading about it. I am off out for a short walk with the dog. Itā€™s dreary and wet here. I hope you have brighter weather your side of the Downs. šŸ˜Š

Nooooooooo! I had one of those neuroma things on my foot. Had to wear special insoles and still do. Very painful it was too. Canā€™t believe you are back on IC.. you were doing so well. As you say there will be other 5kā€™ Am on run 2 week 2 tomorrow ā€¦ slow progress. Get better soon. Tx

ā€¢ in reply toTimotea

Thank you Timotea. Just going to frustratingly sit on the IC for a couple of weeks and take advice thereafter. Feeling a bit Grrr šŸ˜”, but it is what it is. Surgery was muted by physio for the neuroma, but weā€™ll see. Early days yet.Well done on your C25K progress. I could be joining you! Xx

What you can do is loads of non weight bearing stuff like sit ups (šŸ˜±šŸ˜±) yoga, Pilates and back exercises to keep your muscles and fitness going. You can bicycle with neuroma I believeā€¦ a a nice ebike will keep you going.

ā€¢ in reply toTimotea

Thank you Timotea. I am really fortunate in that my Pilates instructor is also my physio, so I have lots of good advice coming my way from her. I am doing Adriene's January MOVE yoga this month as I just couldn't get through it last month. I hadn't thought about bike riding, but that's a good idea.

Oh no! So sorry to hear! Hope you find something to keep you sane and fit during your IC stint. (Rowing and yoga worked for me).

Sending you get-well-quick wishes.

Ah, what a pity! But you can have your IC projects to keep yourself stretching and strengtheningā€¦ and then sink into those cushions to imagine new routes to run when youā€™re ready.

Iā€™ve got Mortonā€™s neuroma. Thereā€™s a lot of footwear that I canā€™t wear without extraordinarily intense pain. Thatā€™s basically most normal footwear. Good job Iā€™m not the Imelda Marcos type!! On specialist advice, Iā€™ve had to turn to wide-fit sports shoes (trail boots, running shoes) and have my bespoke orthotics. Two toes now ā€˜separateā€™ in a V as a result of adaptation to the orthotics.

My running has been largely unaffected - wide running shoes give the space in the toe box. Iā€™ve not even used the orthotics in these shoes. Most of the wide-fit runners I tested felt good. I ended up choosing Hokaā€™s Clifton - a low-drop model with ā€˜rocker soleā€™. Iā€™d already discovered that the rocker sole distributes pressures more evenly. Perfect from the get-go. Later, I did try a nice pair of Altra zero-drops but it soon became apparent they were not going to help me one iota (although notionally wider in the toe-box area, they were still too narrow for my feet and pinched as the foot bent). Weā€™ll all be different, of course, and youā€™ll probably need to experiment - but my main message is that once the flare up settles the neuroma can be managed. Iā€™m now at the point where I completely forget I have it. Very best wishes for a speedy recovery, Hidden .

Thanks so much for your reply. Itā€™s helpful and reassuring to hear someone elseā€™s experiences and to know you are still running.

Iā€™ve had the neuroma for two years, resulting from tendonitis. At that stage I stopped running for 6 months but the lump didnā€™t go away. When I asked the doctor about she said it was calcification and couldnā€™t do anything, but now my physio disagrees and explained about Mortonā€™s neuroma. Itā€™s on the top of my foot between the big and second toes. Summertime it doesnā€™t bother me much as sandals help, but I completely understand what you mean - winter shoes are a different matter. I seem to live in my trainers and soft walking shoes - very glam!

Iā€™m planning projects for the IC and have a date with my yoga mat this morning and a gentle walk with the dog when the rain stops.

Happy running šŸ˜Š

Sorry to hear this. Mind you looking out at the weather, probably better to be ā€˜restingā€™ now with gloomy February skies and rain about, than when the sun is shining. Having said that hope you recover soon and the problem gets sorted out.
