It’s a grey day and there’s not much else to say about it.
Hav not been sleeping well and lots to do
And I’m coughing, better do yet another test, but don’t be silly I can’t beggar up this Christmas after Boris fecked up the last one……
So it’s a grey day and we’ve established that I’m tired and a bit fed up so we ran along the river again, it really is a great place to run, all but one person we passed said good morning, we got to see lots of dogs and smiling owners, several people on bikes and only one other runner. For the first time this year I put on the top 10 Christmas songs.
Across the bridge, stop to take a couple of photos, and gently does it, 10 minutes there 10 minutes back, I’m really not that enthusiastic but hey we are keeping going, smiling at people, listening to music, across the bridge and home again.
Not sure why that didn’t leave me feeling great but Willow joked and chatted on the short journey home, he had a great run.
Garmin aged me another year, tut tut
And the test is negative so i better get on with Christmas prep
Happy Wednesday all 😀

It does look a bit grey and murky there! And I think you are echoing what a lot of us are feeling right now. We don’t always get that ‘runner’s high’ but hey! You got out there and that’s the main thing. Well done 👏👏👏👍
I know just how you feel, felt exactly the same way earlier 😑. But look what you did, you got outside and had a run, so well done! Very pleased your test was negative - and next time your age will go down again I’m sure. All the best 😊.
Good run for you today, that's a nice photo you took, glad that you enjoyed the top 10 Christmas songsToday the weather where I am is dull and wet, I have not been able to get out for my midweek run, not because of the weather but because my gas central heating is off due to low pressure, I am not cold as I am using a electric heater but have to wait for the gas engineer to fix the heating system before I leave the house.
I am not the least bit cold, it is a very mild day, I have a electric heater in my sitting room, however, I have no hot water except the water from my shower which surprised me, the most annoying thing is waiting for the engineer to come to fix it, I don't think they think it's urgent because I told the lady on the phone that I had several electric heaters and she told me that I could still get hot water from the shower in the bathroom, she told me it would be fixed "sometime" today.
Sometime was at 5 o'clock today, it was fixed promptly, after staying in the house all day I decided to go a 5K run in the park only a 3 minutes walk away from where I live, there are lights but as it was my first ever night time run I took it slow and steady, it was my 79th (not) parkrun completed in a time of 42.31, my last official Parkrun time was 32.01 but that was in daylight, now with the gas central heating back on I am roasting, lol🎄🤶Merry Christmas 🤶 🎄
You are definitely on the right forum Sola. You are a runner and this is a runners forum. Many of us are considered old but our bodies are younger than most as a result of running. Don’t listen to Mr Garmin, he doesn’t know any more than your pace and your HR. We know that you do what you can around a very important and busy job.
We all have meh runs - we just don’t post them so often as the good ones. But you know that the next one could be fantastic.
Thanks Dexy, I wasn’t sure why it was meh, but looking back it was better than Monday, we had visitors Sunday evening for a large late roast and Monday morning we just said oh no run today and did very little
Very dull and dreary but at least you got out. Christmas songs cheer you up , going my early walk in morning I’m listening to Xmas songs and singing to them, glad nobody about. At least a negative test always a sorry taking them watching the line it’s negative. Have a better rest of week
Bing Crosby 'Count Your blessings' keeps me balanced. You're you and that's what inspires us; especially on days like these. When you run, all of us can be the wind behind you 🙏
Thank you, it is a bit gloomy the weather and the news, we enjoyed the rest of the day and Christmas is almost organised, now back to work until Tuesday
Oh, no! You sound like your energy has really dipped, Sola. Take heart. You’ll bounce back, I’m confident (and as others have said). In the meantime, cut yourself some slack, rest and maybe just imagine and plan some new routes for when you are ready. The ongoing greyness can be depressing. A friend from Greece once remarked that she had a revelation on noticing that there were many types of grey in the weather in these isles. Thereafter, she paid attention to and enjoyed all the subtle variations. It’s a nice tack. (Mind you, another friend from the same country just tried to organise her life to travel back to the Med in winter!) Hope things pick up very soon.
There are many types of grey skies it’s just yesterdays was flat grey and gloomy but spring will follow before we know it
It is verrry dull here too. Both the weather as well as my mood. The temperature has increased, but I'd rather have 1°C with sun, than 10°C with this perpetual dusky grey sky. I have the lights on at home the whole freaking day!
Anyhow, good news about the negative test and you ran despite not feeling like it. Well done!
Hope you start to feel a bit perkier soon. You do so much and are always so supportive of others on the forum.Time to fit in a few treats for yourself in between all of your commitments.
I know what you mean, when its horrible and grey and you don't feel 100%, its hard to have a cheery outlook. I was on a resilience course last week, which talked about the 'Accountability' Ladder, interesting concept, don't know if you've seen it or heard about it? Anyway, it s all about when you don't feel quite right, what can you do yourself to look at it from a different angle, every cloud and all that, think its along those lines. Therefore helping to start to make your way back up the ladder to feeling more positive.
since the death of one of my dogs 10 weeks ago, its really still affecting me and our other 13 yr old dog, I think is also grieving, so is behaving oddly, and work has been a constant challenge since last year. And you're right, these horrible grey days don't help. So I found myself thinking 'ok I'll give it ago and try and look at things a different way to start making me feel better about things. Silly things like, the old saying, 'another day another dollar, another pound in the pension pot! you know how it goes.........
I also told myself its nice to be able to be healthy enough to actually get out and run, and breath nice fresh air.
So you did your body good Im sure, just a shame it didnt help you to feel better. Try the reframing thing, it does work!
Sorry ,wasn't meant to be a long reply, but starting typing and out it came!
Thanks and no I hadn’t heard of that I will look it up! I’m usually so positive so a meh run came as a bit of a surprise I had a good rest of day though so it must have lifted me a bit
Sometimes these grey days and runs that feel a little negative actually deserve a big tick ✅ Why… because it keeps our discipline of getting out the door going, & we maintain our fitness. After all the sun will shine again & the next run will be a good one & we want to be ready! Xx
I missed your post, but full of admiration for you even going for that short run with everything going on. I love the photo, but agree the weather and everything else makes it just a bit tougher to get out.
We plan to go again after i finish work today, it’s equally gloomy and my legs are hanging off this chair yawning. Look what i missed at our river this morning
