I’m away for a couple of nights and packed my run kit just in case. That proved to be a great decision because I woke up at 7.30am, wide awake and full of beans. That never happens. It must be the sea air! Trainers on and out of the door in less than five minutes. I hardly ever run without eating first but breakfast was booked for 8.30am so needs must. It’s not often you get to run around the grounds of a castle so I’m not missing the chance!
Choosing a base run at what should have been a nice easy pace, I set off across a little bridge across a stream heading for a field where I’d seen bunnies the night before. The watch was pleased with me. I found a lovely little path through the trees and just fell into a comfortable rhythm within a few minutes. The path led over another bridge with some giant rhubarb and a very friendly (and wet!) golden retriever. From there, I turned onto a downhill stretch of road and the watch started grumbling about “too fast” again. This was much nicer than when I began an ascent up a super steep hill and it decided to start complaining that I was “slow”. All my experience on here as both a newbie runner, an ambassador and an admin kicked in and I told it that there was no such thing as “too slow” but it wouldn’t shut up until I got to the top of the hill. It nearly got thrown in a bush! The view from the top was wonderful and the gentle, sloping downhill was a lovely relief. Taking a different path through the fields, I found a large grey heron just sitting in the middle of an empty field. Back to the town and suddenly, all over. 5km done perfectly in time for a cooked breakfast courtesy of the B and B.
A superb start to the day! Maybe these early runs will happen at home too…although I’m not holding my breath!

Super, sounds like really great running and a fab start to the day. I'm away too but not getting any running in, unless you count running after a super quick grandson scooting off and trying to keep him safe. Glad I've got C25K training under my belt! 💤 😴
You are so right about getting couch to 5k done. Once you’re beyond the programme, so many options open up. It was such a wonderful morning just enjoying being out and looking at the scenery. Yes, an effort but one well worth giving.
The weather is a challenge-running after your grandson definitely counts as a workout! Hopefully it will cool down soon. It was a relief this morning to actually feel chilly on my warm up walk and for the humidity to be out of the air.
🍏What a fab run… think you are a princess in a castle by the looks of it?? Beautiful photo, delightful run & enjoy that spoiling! Bonus to see the Heron! 🤩
Thank you! It’s so lovely to be away in such a nice place. Plenty of treats today-definitely earned after a walk up to the top of a hill. The legs have had a serious workout today but it’s been wonderful. I could get used to this holiday lark!
You are so right! I think I should have put it on track rather than selecting a particular workout. I’m still getting used to it. Such a smiley run though. After so many muggy ones, the fresh air was wonderful.
It was superb! Massive bowl of fruit, yoghurt and honey followed by cooked breakfast. I was so full! It definitely hit the spot and was great fuel for deer spotting (none!) and walking up a hill with MrU. A very good day!
It’s been such a nice day. We’ve been all over the place-walking up a hill, looking for deer and wild ponies (none to be seen), waking along a couple of different seafronts… plus a lot of sitting and chilling. Chips on the beach for tea! Holidays are the best. Hope Wales is treating you well! ❤️
It was such a nice way to start the day. Walking up unfamiliar hills for beautiful views was real treat too. Today was a lie in and crazy golf-does that count as cross training?!
🤣🤣🤣 Winter comes with its own special challenges! It’s been lovely to have a change of scenery and it’s really blown the cobwebs away. Holiday runs are super.
How are you getting on with your return from injury? Hope things are still going well. 🤞🤞🤞
True! In summer it's tee shirt and shorts, and you're good.
In winter it's the fine line between getting a chill as soon as you get outside or wearing so much you sweat profusely during the run then freeze during the cool down.
You’ll find it’s a very good excuse for more kit! For me, the main thing I think about is how to be visible in the darker and greyer days. Also how to get my trainers dry!! Having two pairs is a godsend. Long sleeved tops are wonderful things. A cheapo fluorescent jacket from karrimor. I don’t bother with waterproof to avoid the boil in the bag effect.
I already have a few tops in preparation - and I almost got a second pair of shoes, but I didn't like them, so they have been returned. The search continues ...
Totally agree, and then there’s not having to wash it up afterwards! A proper treat. We’re back home now and today’s offering was a bit simpler!!! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️ We were in Dunster. It’s a small little place but there are lovely walks and it’s only an hour or so from home. We were only away a couple of nights but it felt like a proper holiday! Back to the real world today…
