Hello all, feeling very chuffed with myself today as I ran my fastest 5K (31.27) and even finished with a negative split! (5.41!!).
Of course I have no idea why I was able to run faster today π. Once I realised I was pacier than usual, I kept on the flat (not easy in Devon) and I really pushed myself in the last km because I realised I might break my previous PB.
I was wondering whether I was more comfortable and therefore quicker, because my warm up walk was more like 15 mins than 5, as I walked with hubby & the dog for a bit before I started. Does that sound logical?
Anyway, whatever it was I'm enjoying the feeling π
Happy running!

Perhaps. Or perhaps not! My warm-up (dynamic stretches rather than a walk) is near-enough identical all the time, my running certainly isn't. Congratulations on the PB anyway.
I tend to run in the late afternoons and find my better runs follow a morning walk or other activity in the day. Tbh I do wonder sometimes what Iβve done differently when I get a speedier run. π€·ββοΈ
Well done on your time there π Glad youβre enjoying the running and in a very pretty part of the UK too π
It may be in my head but I swear by my ten min uphill stomp out of the village as my warm up. I then do some stretches. (And even some star jumps if no oneβs around) π€£ and I rarely experienced a toxic ten.
So my vote is YES! Youβll have to try it again and see what happens βΊοΈ Good luck!
I don't have such a long walk to the start of where I can run, but it's pretty steep and can make the calves burn. I think it gives them good motivation - run on the flat or continue walking up the hill... they usually get on with the run without too much complaint after that!
I think so! The article this came from relates to horses but I see no reason why humans are different....Paraphrasing - the synovial fluid in your joints changes viscosity depending on activity. If youve been immobile (sleep, Sat at desk all day) the fluid is thicker. To warm up the joints it's suggested you walk your horse for a minimum of 10 mins before starting more strenuous exercise. The older the horse the longer the walking should be ie up to 20mins, in order to get the joints at optimal point before increasing workload.
This can explain why it can take a while to get moving in the morning - well for my old joints anyway π
