Today I was to participate in the World Record attempt for most people to run 10K over the world.
Got up at 8, ate breakfast waited 2 hours (otherwise I get stitches in my abdomen). Kit on, my regular dynamic stretches and away was I.
My favourite 10K route of first along the main road, then along the harbor, onto the dune path, across the wooden bridge and into the polders (fields).
At 5K I thought I was not going to make it. Did a long, tiring walk yesterday and did not drink enough yesterday. Not a good combo before a 10K.
At 7K my upper legs felt like they wanted to head off and take a nap. But at 9K I was wondering if I could reach past 10K. My brain started dreaming of 12K. The run felt easier at 9K than at 5K or 7K, weird.
I passed this couple standing at a gate of a field, trying to get past the lock. The woman called out that she saw a sheep being stuck in wire and she wanted to help it. I wished them luck and continued. On my way back I passed them again further down the road and I called out to ask if they succeeded. They did and they said the sheep was very happy.
Lots of people said hello back this time, very nice.
Reaching 10K I stubbornly kept going, but at 11K I thought to be responsible and call it a day. 10% increase, not 20%.
Already entered my entry (uh) online for the world record attempt, fingers crossed we make it!
Yeah, my eyes are set on the 10 miles now. Though 16,1 km sounds LONG! Due to being a slow runner, 11K already takes more than 1,5 hour. 10 miles will take about 2,5 hours I think 😨
You're roughly the same pace as me. I keep thinking about the 10 miles as well but need to get back to 10k and consolidate for a bit first. Shall be cheering you on and watching your progress!
Thanks, must admit though that I SHOULD have consolidated on 10K too. Only ran it 3 times becore hitting the 11K today. But I might do a couple of 10K's in future weeks before climbing again. No idea yet. My body will tell me...
Ah what a great run Evy! Doesn’t it make a difference when people say hello, and I hope the sheep came unstuck! Well done on helping out on the world record 10k - and maybe see you at 10 miles fairly soon😊😊😊.
Nice run! I just also put my time into the World Record site! I have to admit I also had ordered a medal, and that really helped in getting out there this morning!
😡…❤️🇪🇺 (I think virtual runners are based in Germany, so not sure how that works if you are in NL? Not sure I remember that correctly. But big bummer!)
Well run Evy! I really hope you get your world record! Nice to drop into conversations-"I remember the day i broke the 10k world"- , A brilliant running story!
I think you were wise and showed great self control to stop when feeling good and at your10% increase. You'll get to 10 miles quicker if you don't overdo things and get injured as a result.
I know what you mean about feeling like you can't go on early in a run and feeling better later.I know people talk about the toxic 10 but it frequently takes me 30 minutes before I feel like I might get one of those feel good runs.
Thanks and yeah it was a weird feeling. But I think the fact I did not drink enough water on Saturday and had a long walk on Saturday did not help. Hence the tired legs and such. It's weird that after the 7/8K the run felt better. I guess the legs were getting into it at that moment!
Wow i didn't know there was a world record attempt for 10k yesterday can advise the link to enter your attempt as i completed the Bristol Great Run 10k yesterday
