I’m back in France (bizarre weather here as well) on the eve of the big town run.
In 2019 I ran their 6km which was a big achievement for newbie me.
I practised hard for their new hilly 11 km in 2020 but it was cancelled due to the pandemic.
It’s back on now but the so-and-so’s have radically changed the route. So I thought I’d walk it today as I don’t like bad surprises.
All was okay until kilometre 6 when some bright spark chose to direct it steep up a narrow single track used by hardy ramblers. Complete with rocks and tree roots, about 500m.
I think someone’s made a big mistake as only a small minority will be the French equivalent of fell runners. Also, it’s going to make a blockage for the 1000 or so runners, perhaps giving slowies like me a chance to catch up. I will be walking that section, mes amis, especially as it’ll be slippery after this afternoon’s rain.
I’ll report back if only to say I decided to watch from the café.
