I had a wonderful surprise yesterday from an amazing friend!π I was gifted a Garmin!!....π²π₯°
Truthfully...I was actually a bit scared to use it π¬. I donβt usually want to know the facts & figures. They do say ignorance is bliss π, but really, I just donβt like to make this area of life too rigid π€·π½ββοΈ and I thought tracking everything might do just that π₯΄.
But...it has actually helped me to create some new health and wellbeing goals whilst I am on the LEJOG Tour ππ½ββοΈ. I might not get the LEJOG bling, but π.....I may as well bump up the rewards! π€π.
I have a 10k plan set to start in September. I can assure you itβs a long plan ππ! I think itβs over something like 15 weeks. So it will be a slow build up, which is perfect for me. Iβve not quite got the spring back in my running step yet π, but this plan looks like it would work for me, without feeling pressured. Iβm a certified π ππ½ββοΈ and I like it!! ππ
With a few adjustments that π may change a bit!! Iβm a very lucky lady indeed! ππ
Happy running Runners! β€οΈ

Thanks so much Grannyhugs! π€π€ Things just keep on getting better and better! I was very touched by the gift, as it was genuinely given in the spirit of you can do it! And I love and appreciate that. Hereβs to Tour De La Britain!! JOG on!! ππ½ββοΈ β€οΈ
Wow!! Your title sounds like you're a singer with a backing group...'Now, please welcome to the stage.. 'Fabulous 450 and the New Commitment!' π€
Love this post. Garmin has really helped my running. It took me over 6 months to get one but they are so important helping me pace and stats etc and of course you can still run 'blind' when you like. I love the sound of your plan because you can stick to it and it's manageable too. Keep shining and keep sparkling π
Thanks so much GTFC!! π€π€ Never thought of that, but youβre right! Maybe I should have said βFabulous450 & The New CommitmentSβ!
My new entourage and I can sing it if you like, π£π€.... but only virtually, with the sound off π€«!! You might have to make a run for it in real life!! ππ
I have been running for 2 years now and just didnβt see myself as having any other goal, except not to stop doing it π. I was really impressed with the Garmin when I set it up. It made me think of a few areas that are kind of off the radar most of the time π€«. Tracking it for me automatically?....it seemed rude not to create a couple of new goals.
If I can run more, I will, but Iβm very happy indeed about the prospects!π! I hear it does a bit of re-adjusting as you go along the way too! So thatβs perfect!! ππ½πβ€οΈ
'I have been running for 2 years now and just didnβt see myself as having any other goal, except not to stop doing it' is really the best goal to have. This way it's like the roots of a tree and then the enjoyable runs, PB's, adventures, experiences etc. will be the branches bearing fruit.
ππ½ Thatβs exactly how Iβve played it with myself. The real programme was to create a lifestyle change that was going to help me to be stronger, healthier and happier. I am happy for the energy for fun and adventure to decline gracefully, but only as much as necessary! ππβ€οΈ
Wow you've got fab friends! π Enjoy your new plan and your new Garmin! I do love mine. I'm not making the most of all it has to offer but even the basic stuff is useful ππββοΈ
Wonderful Fab! What an amazing gift! As youβve already found, youβll find lots of new incentives in your Garmin that will help keep you going. Lots of little targets to keep you on your toes, keep your mojo going and track your shoes to make sure you donβt use them after theyβre past their best.
Good luck with your challenge and LEJOG. Definitely looks like youβre back in there ππππ
Thanks so much TailChaser!! π€ It certainly has inspired me a lot!! I donβt know much about tracking the shoes, but Iβll look into that. Thank you πβ€οΈ.
How fab Fab! Well deserved too, youβre a lovely person and have helped many people here on their journeys, myself included. Now, I need to befriend your friend, I have a shopping list ππ€£
They track more than running of course, so Iβm sure itβll fit your fitness regime well. Have lots of fun on the 10k plan... the HM one is great, but that can wait a wee while huh?
Thatβs a fantastic gift...your friend is def a keeper!!! Sometimes itβs best not to know your stats but then, like you say, you can see your progress too so, just like anything in life, there are pros and cons but knowing how much enthusiasm you have and your love for running I think thereβll be more pros than cons in your case and I am thinking that this might just do the trick with regards to the spring in your step...donβt forget my βtweaking toolβ for when you have to make those adjustments...youβll be in John oβgroats before you know it!!!
Thanks so much Mummycav!! π€ Iβm very grateful for the gift and the inspiration. I donβt see myself as likely to get rigid with any plan π, but it would be welcomed if it creeps up on me! ππ²...πππ!
Iβm looking forward to continuing on my journey!! β€οΈ
I tend to learn about mine when I see posts here saying theyβve noticed VO2 max and running totals. I can see itβs the same screen as mine so I press things until I get to the right screen. Iβve had it for 2 years π€£. Pretty sure mine doesnβt work out plans though - seems amazing doesnβt it. When I did a computer module at university we got cards with holes punched in them!! The computer took up a whole room. π³ π΅π»
ππ...nothing wrong with history Sybilw!! If there was no then, thereβd be no now!! We can consider ourselves pioneers!! π€₯...well we can if we like, no one would know any different! π€£
Iβll definitely be learning too! I donβt think Iβm ready for V02 Max by the sound of it π€! All part of the fun....Iβll get there. π€β€οΈ
Great gift. I need to buy a new strap for my Garmin 35. I am embarking on a 100K for September Journey now myself so look forward to reading all about your progress and being inspired. Happy running and enjoy the watch.
I donβt have a Garmin, but the fun Iβve had with discovering the delights of tracking my own data - especially as a very slow runner - then new apps, and every runβs new achievements .... youβre gonna have so much fun on your new programme!!!
Looking so forward to hearing about it on this forum!
Thanks so much CBDB!!π€ Garmin is a new world for me. And...Iβm right in that slow zone with you, but we can say weβre just savouring the fun OR our body is π!! βSlow and goβ has got to be better than βno goβ!! As long as we go!! And we are having so much fun too!ππ½ Look forward to our catch ups on the journey! ππ½πβ€οΈ
How wonderful. What a truly lovely surprise from your friend and an acknowledgement that they recognise all your hard work and determination. Enjoy discovering the mind-boggling world of stats and data! I love my Garmin and how it enables me to look back on all my runs and progress.
I am enjoying reading your LEJOG exploits. I've just admitted to signing up for LEJOG5 in a rather embarrassing post, but hey-ho! I'm looking forward to having something to keep me running as the days get shorter and the cooler weather comes.
Thanks so much RunaroundSue!! π€ It already feels like when you get a great birthday or Christmas gift as a kid! π²....it does this?....and...π² it does that? π€£π€£! Lots of π²βs! πβ€οΈ
A slow runner is a very noble thing to be. We run slowly so that all the other runners can feel good about themselves. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.π π
Thanks so much Kat332zz!! π€ Yes, it really does highlight so many things that I donβt really think too deeply about, but as itβs there....well it has to be looked at!! I understand the complete saying is "Curiosity killed a cat, but satisfaction brought it back.".... I like it!! πβ€οΈ
Oh I had to look...Forerunner 45. Itβs great for me Kat332zz ππ½, but Iβm sure it can do far more than it probably will ever be asked to. πβ€οΈ
I must look into Garmin models too. Iβve been on the bike (and fell-walking) more than running lately so I hope thereβs one thatβs good for cycling too.
Good luck on your journey with your new partner πββοΈ π»π
Thanks so much Alan93! π€ It may take a while before I understand them fully, but Iβd certainly recommend it to anyone for the motivation it gives you!! Itβs brilliant! πβ€οΈ
I have fallen in love too!! π Early days though, I was just told to move while I was at the till in the supermarket!! ππ
Week 5...π Thatβs brilliant WillowandSola!!! I think I need a plan to run alongside LEJOG. I donβt feel compelled to get there, but Iβd like to feel as though I got to as close as I can to John O Groats in 12 months. β€οΈ
