First ever Park Run

49.17 minutes, 13th for my age group, there were 455 out of 460 so not last. I don’t think there are usually this many people but lots of runners up here ready for the Great North Run tomorrow. Lots of other figures which don’t mean much yet… ‘ran’ most of the way had a walk up a couple of inclines over the second lap so not too bad, at least I know what to expect now. The volunteers were wonderful and so friendly. I think I might do it again………

That’s great to hear Lablove! That’s a respectable time for a slow runner (I’d be happy with it😄). And if you think you might do it again- well I reckon that’s job done!

You have got to try it W&S. You could do it for your 2nd c25k graduation run…..

Ha ha I’m almost rolling on the floor laughing here Dexy5 🤣i’m at work, leading the shift administering all the medication and we’ve no flipping cook so I’m cooking dinner too 😀I’m having a great time but I’ve been here since 2pm yesterday so flagging somewhat, I’ve justsatdown for a few minutes to eat something as it’s the first chance i got….. and to think i only applied for this job because i thought assistant managers sat at their computer all day he he that’s what the ones at my old job did 😂 My friend is unwell so week 3 on hold, a gentle non stop run for us after work

Sounds like a tough shift. Hope your running friend gets well soon so you can continue your plan.

It’s busy but i’ll still go out rot a long slow run after work i’m looking forward to it but it will be slow

Lablove profile image

My runs are all slow ones 😂

The hours you put in are incredible Sola, and you must be very dedicated to those you care for. Running when you can is better than not running at all. Well done you.

The hours I’m putting in are stupid but someone has to, I’m the last resort 😂 but it’s been such a great few days and i’ve earned enough extra for some new running shoes 😀😀😃

Wouldn’t say I enjoyed it, but it felt so good when I’d finished 😂

Well done Lablove! That's a big field for a first parkrun - hope you do give it another go soon.

Should be up for it next week, I’ll try and get rid of the 17 seconds!😂

Today's (my 6th) was my slowest by a few seconds. I'm not bothered at all by the time. It's the one I've felt best doing.

Looking forward to it feeling more comfortable!

Well done, Lablove!

That was a big turn out, almost three times our parkruns.

Yes I think numbers were bolstered by runners getting ready for the Great North Run. There were some very speedy runners!

I have yet to sign up keep thinking I might find it too much why I don’t know as I have reached the big 10, but always run on my own I might sit here and sign up so I’m ready to rumble when I get the confidence! Congrats on taking part 🏃‍♀️

Going to that first one is the hardest Wavy-chick. I wrote a pinned post on parkrun to help anyone who has never been before. Why not check it out and let me know if you want to know anything else.

I was the same, but a ‘friend’ lured me in with the promise of cheering and a cup of coffee when I’d finished. I run on my own and pretty much did the same yesterday. I stayed at the back and listened to the advice from the group and kept to my own slow pace. Give it a go, it’s free and you can always walk bits.

Couple of busy weeks ahead but I’ve signed up and ordered a wrist band so watch this space !

Warning ⚠️ parkrun is addictive and your Saturdays will never be the same again. So glad you had a good time. Volunteering is fun too.

Will definitely sign up for volunteering at some point, I really appreciated their support.

Well done, great time! Did you get caught up in the excitement ;) ? Remember, the coolest people hang out at the back of the classroom 😎😁

Lablove profile image
Lablove60minGraduate in reply to Yesletsgo

It was great, bit daunting with all the GNR people there, but you’re right the cool ‘kids’ were at the back!!

When you have done it a few times you can be one of those fantastic volunteers. It is very fulfilling. (Guess what I did yesterday). It is good if you plan to run on a Sunday instead or want to run a longer distance afterwards. You will get faster. It sounds like a tough route. Ours is flat in Tooting ; "powe to the people' and all that, if you are of a certain age.

Lablove profile image
Lablove60minGraduate in reply to Rennur

Hmmm, I wonder!! I’m trying to build up distance slowly (everything is slow).

They are the best. Do you run with yours?

Dobbydoodah profile image

No, he's 7yrs and likes to stop & sniff!! Although I would welcome the breaks in running not ideal 😂. Do you?

Lablove profile image
Lablove60minGraduate in reply to Dobbydoodah

Haven’t tried, she’s quite young, I’m worried I might trip over her. 😀

At my local parkrun on Saturday a regular was running with her chocolate Lab. There were several excursions off the course for the dog to sniff tree trunks etc.

Lablove profile image
Lablove60minGraduate in reply to nowster

😂 that sounds about right. Hard enough running 5K without doing extra laps around trees!

Very well done. Parkruns can be great fun and are for everyone. Always a great atmosphere too!
