I had 9 and half hours sleep last night!! Best night in ages. However I dozed until 10.15 and had no motivation to run at all even though I had promised myself I would do a 10k this weekend. But I got into my gear and set my watch, podcast and headphones up and off I set. Did my warmup walk and started to run. Once I had started I realised what a beautiful morning it was and started to enjoy my run. Originally I was going to do run 10/walk1 throughout but when I got to the first 10 mins I mentally revised that to maybe 15:1?? Then I got to 15 and carried on to 20 and it just felt really flowing and easy. So I thought maybe I’d run the 5k out and maybe run/walk the 5k back again.
At about 4k I was running alongside the low wall at the side of the River, and happened to glance down, and saw a huge mushroom …. About 5” across!!! Luckily I had a small bag tucked in my Flipbelt and thought I’d grab it on my way back. I carried on and just before the 5k mark I spotted someone coming towards me waving their hands over their head. And it was my daughter on her way back from HER run. She shouted “ well done mum” as we passed and I responded in kind and carried on to my 5k.
When my watch said 5k I clicked the lap button and turned round. As I was still feeling good I carried on running. And carried on and on. I kept an eye out for where the giant mushroom was and when I spotted it I stopped for about 10 seconds, just long enough to pick it and pop it into the little bag and carry on with my run. I carried it in my hand for a little while then just tied it to my Flipbelt as it had felt awkward still running and unable to use my arms properly whilst running. I suddenly realised I was at 7.5k and thought “ you know what ? I am going to carry on running and see if I can manage without walking at all. “ and I did!!!
The last 2k were a bit more like hard work but I am so pleased with myself. That’s the first continuous 10k since my two bouts of Covid and when I finally reached 10k I was so pleased I clicked my Stop and Save buttons. I forgot that I usually do a little bit more just to make sure that Strava gives me the 10k. So of course I was overjoyed to find Strava allowed me 6.21 miles rather than 6.22 for the 10k.!!! NOT!!!
On my walk home I popped into the Coop for some bacon to go with my giant mushroom, and a couple of golden yolked eggs I had in my fridge, and once I got home I had a very well deserved Brunch. I am still on a bit of a high whilst typing this at 7pm and also still have very pink cheeks 😂😂.
Also when I got home I found out my lovely daughter had run 10 miles ( but with walk breaks) .
