So I ordered some shorts for my first (since a long time) short shorts run! But I got lucky that they haven’t arrived yet, as running this (see pic) of my lovely routes meant running through grasses (which was nice) and navigating brambles and nettles (which was not).
So maybe shorts are overrated for the routes I do around this time of the year as I was mightily glad to have long leggings.
No Cows25k accompanying me this morning, either. But glorious short run! And I have certainly managed to keep my mojo close. Very happy these days.
Happy running everyone!

Why is the first thing I think about seeing those grasses: ticks! I am just so scared of those filthy 'beasts'. I think I'd prefer long tights above shorts in that grass too!
I don't want to put you off, but genuinely be careful; they are quite common in mild weather on farm land. If you find one, Google how to remove them safely - it's not difficult with the right technique. If any part of a tick is left embedded, you could risk lyme disease.
Yeah, I have a friend who had Lyme disease. So it’s definitely scary. Not sure I want it to keep me from running this route, though. So therefore leggings might be a good choice. Thanks.
If I wore shorts in your photo the brambles or nettles would up past by knobbly knees and short legs so defo leggings for me 🤣. Glad u enjoyed your run apart from the brambles. 😊You’ll be all scratched. 😕
I was so thankful that my overgrown route this afternoon had very few prickly things, as I was indeed wearing shorts. Which I really needed to be as I think I would have melted in leggings. I do have a few ‘whip’ marks round my ankles though.
My legs definitely agree that shorts are not appropriate for running through long grass - they got very scratched last week from ankle to shorts line! Though shorts are good for staying cool and I am glad for them on road runs.
