My first race - Yateley 10k

It’s been two weeks since I injured my ankle, and over the last few days I’ve been deliberating as to whether to run my first live event. I could still feel the niggle today, but decided I was just going to try and run and see how I went. There are three races in the series so I figured I’d attempt the first and pull out of the other two if needed.

I’m so glad I did go, as it was so much fun. I warmed up in the starting area and my ankle crunched, and suddenly felt better than it had in days. Setting off, everything felt ok, so I just focused on the run and soaking up the atmosphere.

As 10k’s go, it was one of the toughest routes I’ve run. Lots of long inclines with very little level ground. But it was really good fun to run, and do so with other people (I normally skulk around in the woods on my own!)

I managed a decent time, at 53:27.

Fingers crossed the injury is sorted and I can run the other two races!

Congratulations on that excellent time of 53.27, not too many people on this forum can run 10K in that time, including me, especially after your recent injury, well done 😀 🏃🏾👍

Thanks Al, I was pleasantly surprised that I ran it in that time, it was clearly the atmosphere of a proper race that spurred me on

Well done on that time. You continue to be faster than me.

Cheers Nowster, just got to pray my ankle holds up for the other two. I may be faster but I daresay you clock up more miles while I’m hobbling about injured 😬

Thank you. It was intimidating being there with loads of official club runners but I hope I did the C25K club proud!
