I’ve booked to do my first 10k race tomorrow. My first for at least 10 years. I’ve had a slight niggle on my left knee so I’ll probably wear a support on it tomorrow. Any other tips out there?it’s on a race track three laps so I will be slow but there will be some wanting a good time out there . Thanks in advance!

Gosh, how awesome are you??? Enjoy it. Bring a good version of yourself to the start in terms of prep etc. Really enjoy what you're about to do because it's a super achievement. Steady start as it's easy to get carried away. Then grow into the race by finding your rhythm. Can't wait to hear all about it 😃

Thank you very kind and wise words. I just want to have a goal to keep running. I am excited and terrified in equal measure! Hope you’re enjoying your running too.

How exciting! Don’t worry about others, it’s your race and yours alone.

Get everything ready tonight so you don't faff tomorrow morning (although for me, part of the routine of a race is the faffage 🤣)

Get there early as you don’t want to be under pressure and join the toilet queue early as they’re usually long 🙄

The best piece of advice as far as I’m concerned though is don’t start off too fast. This is quite hard to do as it seems as if everyone else is flying away and leaving you behind! But they’re not and many of these fast demons can be seen struggling later on while those with a steady pace can run past them 🙂

Walk if you need to, especially with your niggly knee.

Will there be bling?

If you’d like a pom-pom cheer then let us know on the Marathon & Race Support forum. There are a few others racing tomorrow too!

Good luck, enjoy it all and just think of how epic you’re going to feel as you cross that finish line 🍀💪 Then, come here and tell us all about it.

Thank you it’s slow and steady for me

How fantastic. My advice is go and be yourself, run your own race and most importantly ......... go and have fun, enjoy yourself. Yay. 👍

Enjoy yourself StringsandKeys , that's the only advice I'm even vaguely qualified to give, as races aren't my thing. Certainly not three laps of a race track, I wouldn't go near that, so you're already succeeding in my book!

Haha thank you I think it should be good as it’s flat and all off road but that said there is the psychological part of doing the track three times!

I find that 3 lap courses are really good for my mindset. After the first lap my mind says "ooh - only one more and then Im on to the last lap". I can then pace the middle lap to save energy to get round the last one. Have a great time 👍

I will try to remember that tomorrow!

That's a really good way of looking at it Hidden . I've used the technique of mentally breaking things down into manageable chunks since W5R3.

I'd still hate flat and three laps though, as I have the boredom threshhold of a gnat.
