I've not posted a lot the latest time, because I have not run a lot the latest time. I ran my first 10K on 12/06 I think, then my next run was only a full week later with a 60 minute run on 19/06 I think and ever since then I have not run a single time!
Either life got in the way or I just could not get myself to go out and run. I was planning on running this weekend, but again: life got in the way. My folks had an accident with water and the laminate flooring in their bedroom. So on Saturday I helped take out the old laminate flooring, pushing furniture around and placing the new laminate flooring, which took a whole day (12 hours). Unfortunately my body is used to sitting on a chair in front of a computer the whole day and NOT used to bending down, crawling around on my knees and getting up again a whole day.
Because of which I am still today suffering from serious sore muscles in my whole body. I can hardly even use the toilet from the pain in my legs and buttocks. So I don't think I will be able to run today or even tomorrow. Call me a soft one, but pain and me really don't go together. So I fear I might have to wait until Thursday maybe before I can get a run in. And that is if I feel like it. Because starting from Wednesday, I have to go back to work full time (no more home working for me), which will be a serious change (also in my mood).
I know I'll have to build up a bit again, but no way around it. My new 10K will have to wait a bit. I'll also have to give myself a good kick in the butt to get running again, because the less I run, the less I feel like running. So I urgently need to get into a running routine again. In combination I fell into the sugar again the past week, because of which I don't have a lot of energy either. Yeah, I need a serious kick in the butt!!
O dear Evy sounds like your in the wars. Epsom salts bath should sort out the aches and pains and I suppose from Thursday itโs will be a new routine to adjust to. Remember that running helps you and youโll soon be out there. As for the sugar mmmm I have that issue too I take it one day at a time and hopefully I can get 2-3 days without any processed sugar but do tend to resort to fruit ๐ which is just a different form of sugar I suppose.๐คfor you over the next week to get a little run in ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Thanks and yeah I try to leave as much sugar out of my life, but sometimes I just fall into it's trap and when I fall into it's trap I fall good and hard. Yesterday I cut out as much sugar as I could and I'm already paying for it with a nice headache.
Doing that floor was a pretty good work out I'd say. Yes, Epsom salts will help aches...and walking. Honey is as calorific as sugar, but better for you....don't be too hard on yourself just remember that you won't regret any runs you do...good luck going back to work, that will be very different.
True, after so much working from home, it'll be a serious change. Not only for me, but also for my cats. And I know I should not hit myself over the head in regards to not running and the sugar, but I need to structure myself urgently again. I feel so much better when I run regularly and skip a much sugar as I can...
Donโt kick yourself in the butt BS - itโll hurt! I think we donโt realise how inactive we are until something smacks us round the head - like a dayโs gardening or you helping your folks. But it will wear off wonโt it? As Scruff says - could you take a bath with Epsom salts (or even a warm bath without!) which will help ease the stiffness. Iโm sure your folks appreciated your help though - flooding in the home is horrible. Good luck with your return to the office - is it too far to brisk walk or run to? Or could you get out at lunchtime? But no butt kicking - life just gets in the way sometimes! Happy running!
I did take a warm bath yesterday, but it did not seem to help. I don't have Epsom salts, will have to look into where I can get some.
Luckily it was not a flooding, but an accident. My folks are getting a new bedroom and when the old was taken out, the floor had a coating of sticky dust where the bed had been (you could not clean under the bed). My mom tried to clean it with a tad too much water and the old laminate floor started buckling, unfortunately. Couldn't get it ok again, so a new floor was in order. Because the new floor has another color than the other bedrooms / office room, we'll have to do the 2 other rooms as well, but in autumn / winter.
Work is about 7 km from home, but I can't walk / run to it to 1. get in time for work and 2. not be a sweating mess in the office, haha. And I could drive to it in the morning and run back home. But then my car would be stuck at the office. Also, my lunch is only 30 minutes and with warming up / cooling down it's not worth it. Plus again the problem with being a sweating mess ๐. But thanks for the suggestion nevertheless!
With me it is, if I go run regularly, I also WANT to run. But if I leave so much as an extra day of rest between, I'm starting to find excuses for not going to run. Let alone a week or more, then starting again is soooo difficult!
Ouch poor you, I take it you forgot to do stretches as you were working at the weekend? Somehow we feel stretches for running yes, other activities no๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ I wish you all the best for heading back to work a later in the week, quite a thought after so long. Hopefully the aches will soon ease off and you can get back to happy running ๐ค
I told my folks yesterday, I should have stretched before starting to lay the flooring, haha. Now in autumn / winter we have 2 more rooms to do. I'll TRY to remember to stretch before and after.
โโฆthe less I run, the less I feel like runningโฆโ
Yeah, I said almost the same thing last week, and I also have the panic of slipping into not running mode.
But you got this! Having caught yourself in that cycle is the first step, isnโt it?
I do think the weather also played itโs part here where I am, but my solution is to prioritise three runs per week, even if theyโre shorter โฆ to be easy on knees.
And I will still be doing my long runs (8-10k), but they might just be every two-three weeks. More important for me now will be to keep managing 3 runs per week, as I know that just makes me feel like running more.
Hope you find what works for you!
Another thing I did with the long runs is that I set myself a different route for a second 5k to 10k journey, and exploring that route by extending the long run every time I run it is also fun.
You got this!
Keep on keeping on!
P.s. do you get headaches from eating sugar or sugar withdrawal? I do get headaches quite regularly and still trying to figure out the pattern.
Once my legs don't feel like they have been put in a blender, I'm going to try to get back to 3 runs a week too. And maybe not a long run for a week or 2, but just get back into the habit of running. Maybe a bunch of 30 minute runs again and then build up again to 5K and further. That's a good idea. But first I have to get my legs out of the blender ๐
In general I don't get a headache from eating too much sugar - I THINK, never really paid attention. But I do get very tired and energy-less and irritated and anxious from eating too much sugar. Not to mention the weight gain. I then go sugarless (or as much as I can) in a cold-turkey manner and that does give me splitting headaches, like at this very moment. When work is over today, I'm just gonna rest a bit...
You poor thing!! I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure you'll get back into the running, I find putting the kit on is the biggest battle, once it's on, I have to go!
Yeah, getting the kit on is a big step as well as stepping outside. But let's wait for my legs to get back out of the stiffness and let's see if I can push myqelf outside again...
It took me 2 afternoons fairly recently to get a plant out of a pot - a big formium that had roots like cement. I wanted to keep the pot, otherwise Iโd have just smashed it out! Anyway, I could barely move after, so I feel your pain! I think youโll surprise yourself with your next run, wait and see! Even if you just put your kit on and see where it takes you. I think weโre all guilty of being in thrall of the sugar monster from time to time too, he lives with the running gremlins ๐.
It's almost a biology class, I feel muscles I did not know I have ๐น. A sugar gremlin! I am going to keep this in mind, I think it might help to say no to a gremlin instead of to a cookie ๐ช. I have to keep this splitting headache in mind too...
Oh I feel for you all the bending up and down , using muscles your not used to. It will take a little while to get back into a working routine at the office instead of home and all the different routine. Yes take it easy at first even just runaround the block to get back in the swing . At least at work you might forget about the sugar cravings. ๐
Don't believe that, Doris. At work I yearn just as hard or even harder for sugar. My coworkers all take along cookies, chocolate waffles, etc. It's weird how they can just eat so much sweets and not get any effect of them. I just have to get a bit of willpower back, so when I see them nibbling on their sweets, I will think of how bad it is instead of how much I want that myself.
And indeed, just build up the running slowly again. Short runs to get into the mood again. Won't be for today yet, my body / me is so weak that I am still hurting in my legs. My back feels fine again, so that's good news. The legs, they are a bit better, but still not in running form.
