As you may know I have been struggling to run without Jeffing lately. But after my 30 minute successful continuous run on Friday I thought I’d try for 5k continuous running again and I made it!! I was a little bit later getting up than I had intended and as I’d arranged for someone to come and view my treadmill (and hopefully buy it) at 10.30 I was a bit worried I wouldn’t be back and showered in time. So, no time to dither, I was up, into my tee shirt and leggings, headphones in, and out the door without too much time to flap. It was really mild this morning but a bit wet and slippy still underfoot.
I set off down the road without really planning where I was going. Lately I tend to pick my route dependent on how many people are in my way, crossing roads and turning down side streets in order to keep socially distant and not have to stop or go round if I can help it. This morning there was a older lady striding along on her morning walk, so she turned right and I carried straight on exchanging “ good mornings” as we passed each other. I started to run around a little estate near my house, and turned right along the pavement. I ran to the end and then turned and as I did I saw the same lady popping out the side by the river, having cut across the fields and over a little bridge. We grinned at each other and she went one way and I went the other.
Later, after I’d finished meandering around the estate, I was heading down towards Pilton and noticed this lady looking a bit lost. I asked if she was ok and she said she thought she’d maybe gone too far and couldn’t get out that way? I told her yes she could, turn right and follow the road along by the river. And then I ran on and she followed more slowly.
I carried on and joined one of my usual routes and kept going to finish my 5k, albeit a bit more slowly than when Jeffing, but I was pleased to be able to run for 43 minutes without walking at all. And then funnily enough, when I was walking back and was about 2 streets from home, out popped this lady again!! From a side street. So we chatted as we walked home and it turns out she lives just round the corner from. She is one of the people my tiny black cat goes and visits ( and pretends she is starving!!). I pointed out that she eats about 6 meals a day and has plenty of treats. She eats far more than my other cats who are all twice her size. They are all wormed regularly too but the vet reckons Roma just has a fast metabolism.
Anyway this lady, who is 81, lost her cat a couple of years ago and now contents herself with feeding hedgehogs in her garden ( and Roma who likes to pretend to be a hedgehog if there is food going). We had a nice little chat about her walking ( she walks miles every day) and my running and how I started. And then I carried on home, showered and dressed just in time to sell my redundant Treadmill. Yay!!!! The man who bought it was getting it for his wife ( she has worn 3 out already!!!).
And now I have half of my two rooms with lovely new flooring. My poor son has battled away all day with it ( he usually has a second guy working with him but as he is doing this for us he didn’t want to have to pay a second person) and he was going great guns when we went to move the suite back onto the half he’d done, only to realise as we slid it into place, that the feet of the suite had picked up the old Bitumen( from under the original old flooring tiles) from the floor and smeared it into the new pale oak floor!!! ARRHGHH!!! So there we both were frantically trying to clean it off without damaging the new floor. Managed it eventually and then while he has been battling away with another couple of rows I have been cutting out circles and squares of spare underlay and No More Nailsing them onto the feet of 3 nested coffee tables, 2 dining chairs, 8 feet on the two settees, and I have the rest cut out ready to do the table legs, 2 bookcases and a small cupboard. Also scrubbing the bases of 4 plastic cat beds.
What a fun Sunday!!! Time for a glass of Elderberry Port I think ... or two
BUT I can run continuously again. Yay!!!!😁😁🏃♀️🏃♀️🎉🎉
