Hello Everyone,

Happy weekend. For any of you new graduates whom have started running during COVID-19 world you may have heard of a thing called parkrun. parkrun is a free 5K which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in-between. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K did it religiously every Saturday morning.

Obviously we can not do it anymore. So until parkrun returns (hopefully in a month) we take part on our own in a pretend parkrun every Saturday morning. We post after our run and let everyone know how we got on during our run. The little run report can be done over a post virtual parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new). It can be run/walked on any route close to you which is 5K. Does not have to be done in a park, you can even do it on a treadmill.

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is a 5K run/jog/walk anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun on the website. I only log Saturday runs, when I remember. :-)

Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Damien

Good morning Damien, I am very happy to tell you that I ran my 54th not parkrun and according to the Dunfermline not parkrun Website my time of 32.31 was a not parkrun PB.

I have just been told there is a provisional date of 14th August for the return of parkruns in Scotland. Fingers crossed.

Good morning Damien and all! We were out early today as it’s youngest kitten’s birthday so we’re off on a trip to see old diesel trains for a birthday treat.

Feeling tired today as it’s been a long week at work and yesterday we had the Beer Relay at the local park. It was great fun: teams of 4 running 2 miles each as fast as possible, preferably in fancy dress for a bottle of local beer at the end 😋 There were also lots of familiar parkrun faces who we’d not seen in a running environment since pre pandemic. Lovely to have group running back locally and a great way to spend a Friday evening.

So today my legs are a little tired (no, I only had one bottle of beer!). Katnap and I were quite happy with the run though as we still did a reasonable pace and I finished in 28:19

Happy running everyone 🏃🏼‍♀️ 🏃🏾‍♂️ 🏃👏👏

Beer relay sounds fun, although I don't drink beer!Enjoy the trains

Did the outgoing runner have to wait until the incomer had downed their beer 🍺before they could start? 😃. That would definitely be the rule if I was organising .....

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to UpTheStanley

I’ve heard of relays like that! I think there’s one on The Running Channel. Looked a bit 🤢 No, this was quite sedate, you just got a bottle when you finished your leg. Much less likely to spill any!

Hi everyone. 😀

It has to be said, I was getting very bored of my lovely (not) PR course. I know every blade of grass, I know exactly at what point I need to turn to run the final 1k down to the car. I’m Strava local legend many times over (read that as the only runner for the most part!).

So imagine my delight to be able to mix it up incorporating NRC intervals or fartlek? It may not result in PBs as I slow jog in between speedier efforts, but who cares? The runs have a purpose! Yesterday’s was a fun Triple 7’s speed run as part of my HM plan. 5 minute slow warmup, then 3 x 7 minutes faster at 5k pace with 2.5 minutes of recovery in between which again I slow jogged. When the session was finished, I continued jogging to reach 5k in 35:43. Fun and with a purpose!

😀

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

I am mostly running with Gymboss, just to have the beeps at set intervals. Not fast but a good distraction. This morning though I ran through the walking sessions until past 3km and again until past 5km. I did nearly 7km in total.

Hi damienair and (not) Park runners,

19th Park run for me! I came in as the 19th female with a 2nd place in my age category and a PB of 28:16.

Quite funny that I only managed to beat TailChaser this week due to tired legs and beer 🥴🤣

Happy running everyone 🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️❤️

And I’m sure you’ve got a lot more hills Al! 😍

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to TailChaser

Not really, the first kilometer of my normal Saturday morning 5K is mainly flat with a slightly downhill part, the remaining four kilometers are flat around the loch, the last 400 metres starts with a downhill bit where I sometimes speed up a little if I am not knackered by then.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Sounds lovely 😊

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to TailChaser

There are several photos of my normal 5K running route, from two years ago under the heading "The ButtercupKid 5K trail" you may remember ButtercupKid, she inspired everyone on the C25K forum, she named part of her running course after several members on the forum including me and Oldfloss, I went one better by naming the whole of my running route after her and also took several photos of it.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to RunaroundSue

You’ve got more hills Sue 😍

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply to TailChaser

Not on my chosen runs. I km downhill at the start of my (not)parkrun route but I finish well before the bottom of the hill. It is hard enough walking back up!

Good Afternoon Damien and the crew. 👍Today I did my 5k notparkrun. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️I recently got a Garmin and I also used the Nike Run app, today's too. So I have two different readings, a little bit confusing but did my notparkrun! So on the Nike app, it was a 5k in 31 mins on Mx Garmin 5k in 33 mins.

🤨 😳

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to limu_mu

That’s nothing unusual limu. Strava often has times lower than the Garmin. It seems crazy as that’s where the data comes from 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't think I reported in last week, not sure why. I don't think there was anything remarkable about the run.

Again this week, nothing special to report. Same route, same 2nd breakfast :) but enjoyable.

Fastest run of the week because I ran through most of the walking breaks. 36.34

What a beautiful morning on the south coast today, and just a gentle south easterly breeze. One of our local running clubs has got back in training on Saturday mornings and it was lovely to see those familar parkrunners. Lots wearing their milestone T-shirts too.

I didn’t do the exact route but I was cheered on as I crossed the parkrun finish line, even though I still had 2 more km to run. 34:23 for me which I hope will improve when I get back to 3 days a week.

UpTheStanley , Mr Coddfish and Oldgirlruns ran too and Coddfish clapped us in.

Breakfast followed at the Briny and chatter continued over 2 coffees.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

We’re near down your way in the South Downs Dexy and I confirm it is a much nicer day than in the Midlands. So good to see people in their milestone t-shirts again. Sounds like you had an excellent run 👍

A bit different to last week when we had all the rain! Have a lovely time with Youngest kitten.

I confess my run included some walking TC as I’m not as running fit as I was before COVID. It was great to see all the other runners though. Someone did ask us if parkrun was back and was delighted to hear that it would be (said with fingers crossed) in 4 weeks.

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

A beautiful day it was Dexy! I only managed 3km today, I think not helped by poor hydration but never mind there’s always another run and I did 5km on Wednesday - my second since January! Onwards and onwards we go!

What she (Dexy5 ) said ..... I stretched mine to 6k this morning and managed to maintain my 5'00"/k target pace for the extra k, so well pleased with that.

I gather NI did proper parkrun for the first time this morning, D, did you slip across?

Good afternoon everyone! We have had another trip away in the van this week, to Northumberland. I decided not to take my running kit (shock horror 😳) although we did do lots of walking including across sand dunes which I am sure must be good for balance and muscle tone! So this morning was my first run since last Saturday. A cool, dry, cloudy, wind free morning, which is just how I like it and a respectable 30.26.

Northumberland in September for us. Last year Geoff found a more than acceptable 5km route from the campsite, although I did slide down a muddy slope because I hadn't taken my trail shoes :) I keep thinking that we should try a run on the beach at Bamburgh

After a bit of a break, I have a 5k to report; or 7k niggle free to be more accurate. My time is withheld to protect what is left of my dignity!Lots of uphill bits and a lovely long downhill stretch 4/5 of the way through. Slowing things right off is clearly working.

Oh yes; Wally the Walrus has returned. He has installed himself on the stern of a medical launch which is moored in the harbour. I hope that saga has a happy ending…..

Today, for a change I actually managed a (not)parkrun on a Saturday at 9am! Not a PB, but my runs have been improving recently after an off spell, so still pleased. Felt slightly sad that we should have been park running for real today, but it will all come in good time. And I was thrilled for those in NI who did return today😊

My mum had a stroke last Saturday and thank God running was there for me this last week. I’ve managed to do some shorter runs in between hospital visits and yesterday I made it back to Brighton as my brother has taken over for a few days.

I ran a 5k to the cliffs over the marina in the afternoon sun and the fresh sea air was magical. I recorded a time of 26.45. I’m in the process of trying to move away from a quite severe heel strike to improve speed and help lessen the stress on my back and hips. It seems to be working so far. Happy running everyone! 👍

PS I also joined a running club! 😄

I did another test route for my local parkrun, it was also a little meet up for 5K Your Way, we wore our blue tees....

Rennur profile image

Done two 5Ks in the week and a 10K today. Really slow. Marginally fastest 5K was on Tuesday - if I had ran slower I would have missed more of the dull England match - schoolboy error. I may revert to one shorter run per week to practice speed intervals once I am more confident with my niggles. I did the same last week with a 12K long run so I can at least claim to have done a half marathon, albeit in a week!

hi all

I still have two baby hedghogs to care for and get upto weight. We were feeding every four hours which combined with still working full time and extra hours made running quite difficult to fit in, but I did still get the odd one in, particulary on a saturday and sunday. The little prickly babies are nearly 4 weeks now, so we are getting more sleep now, so Im running more. Had a brilliant run yesterday and today and am really excited for when Park Run returns, so I can atlast do my first 'proper one'!🏃‍♀️

Happy running everyone!

I’ve never run a Park run; only heard about them since beginning C25k. You say it’s not a race but the times and positions are logged and presented on a weekly results page as far as I can see. I feel there’s an element of competition. When lockdown ends and Park runs begin again, I’d be interested to see how it works in practice. Looking forwards to it.

I don’t run on Saturdays - but Mon, Wed, and Fridays. Is it the previous run before Saturday’s Park run (which would be my Wednesday 5k run; it’s 12k+ on Fridays) or the one immediately after (Monday) which would count?

So I ran a 5k today. PB 25minutes dead (the time, not me, though probably almost).

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Ian5K

Congratulations Ian5K on that 25 minute PB 5K run, some of the very quick runners at parkruns probably do run as a competition against each other but most of the runners run for fun and exercise and to meet other runners, sometimes afterwards for coffee, tea or biscuits at a nearby restaurant, there is only ONE day a week for a parkrun which is a Saturday, however, as the official parkruns are not on at the moment we have been doing what they call NOT parkruns, those runs can be done as many as 7 times a week but most runners only do at the most 1 a week, there are a few who run 3 not parkruns a week, if you can't run on a Saturday once the official parkruns resume, you could continue to run a not parkrun any day of the week you wish to.

Ian5K profile image
Ian5KGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Thanks, Al. Since posting that I couldn’t run Saturday, due to commitments, it seems I might be able to now, a change in the ongoing diary has occurred! So, I might find myself looking forward to entering my first real Saturday Park run - hopefully later this Summer.

Hi Damien 👋🏼Ran my 5K on Friday over the local Park Run course. It was a lot cooler with a nice breeze.

Tried NRC intervals on the downward leg, but not very successfully…so reverted to fartleks with Coach Bennett on the way back…much more fun! Scraped under 42 minutes with a time of 41:59 😉

Entered it on the local (not) Park Run site, it was my 45th entry! ☺️
