Happy May Bank Holiday weekend. For any of you new graduates whom have started running during COVID-19 world you may have heard of a thing called parkrun. parkrun is a free 5K which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K did it religiously every Saturday morning.
Obviously we can not do it anymore. So until parkrun returns we take part on our own in a (not)parkrun every Saturday morning. We post after our run and let everyone know how we got on during our run. The little run report can be done over a post virtual parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new). It can be run/walked on any route close to you which is 5K. Does not have to be done in a park, you can even do it on a treadmill.
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is a 5K run/jog/walk anytime over the weekend and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun on the website. I only log Saturday runs, when I remember.
Looking forward to my run later and also looking forward to hearing from all of you. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.
Damien

Good morning Damien, a Happy May Bank Holiday to you, I have just got back from my 46th not parkrun, my time was EXACTLY the same as two weeks ago at 34.23. I am not sure when the official Parkruns will start in Ireland or Scotland, even that starting date in England of 5th June is looking a little doubtful at the moment, I hope you have a good Bank Holiday Weekend.
I hope you’re wrong about 5th June. I’m just hoping it’s still early days with the landowner emails. Perhaps we’ll get an avalanche of permissions in the next couple of weeks, you never know!🤞🤞🤞
Let's hope so TailChaser, I heard that latest Parkrun Podcast yesterday and let's hope they will get an avalanche of permissions before 5th June to allow ALL the English parkruns to restart.
I wasn’t going for a 5k this morning just a fast for me 30minute run with my 12 year old. I was pretty pleased when I uploaded to Strava to discover I had run 4.95 km in 30.02. Splits were 6.20, 6.05, 6.06,6.00, 5.50. Sub 30 maybe soon ❤️🏃♀️
It was chilly this morning and I was unsure what to wear, so picked capris and a short sleeved teeshirt with my lightweight hi viz jacket. I made the error of keeping that on and was soon rather toasty, plus it made my wrists sweat causing my Garmin to pick up my cadence as my HR! I’m a reptile with a very low HR as a rule, so an average of 173/max 200 wouldn’t be good news for me! 😅
My legs have worked quite hard on hills this week and they were a little sluggish today. So with my usual JogRunSprint combo I managed 35:22. I definitely slowed right down after the sprints, I could feel it!
Lots of fun as ever though. I hope you all have great runs too. 😀
I've actually done a 5km run this morning. I swear I wasn't pushing for a time, and just wanted to plod out an easy pace. The time, which was a total surprise, was 30'06".
Splits: 5'52", 6'14" (including The Hill), 6'02", 6'08", 5'50"/km
I've now entered that into my local (not)parkrun on the official website.
It was a fairly gentle one this morning after a Thai takeaway last night and grandchildren sleeping over, leading to a rather early start! So my usual run around the local roads came in just under the 30, at 29.47.
While we're talking all things parkrun, you may be interested in the latest list of English events that have permission to return - it's linked to from yesterday's blog
Slightly concerned that none of our local ones are listed, but as the formal letter to landowners only went out this week, hopefully that will change soon!🤞
Yes Bournemouth, Poole, Chichester and Salisbury have been very quick off the mark and I think they are all in parks/recreation grounds. My RD assures me that discussions with PCC are still ongoing and I guess they will announce both together, otherwise all of Portsmouth will end up at Lakeside 😱. I like the idea of naming the approvals though, it will start to put the pressure on.
I was keeping an eye out for yours. I spotted Eastleigh too. There haven’t been that many in the big scheme of things so far but it is early days and I wonder if the local elections might delay decisions a little as committees change over at some councils?
Good afternoon Damien and all! Today, despite it being a bit parkie I put my shorts on and a single layer top (my Damien (not)parkrun top of course!) and went about my 50th official (not)parkrun this morning. Whoop! Whoop! 🙌 Actually, I think I've lost count of how many others I've done now along the same course but that is the official number.Thankfully I didn't freeze as I trusted in the air temperature being much warmer than the freezing cold wind and I soon warmed up. It was a Guinness and burger fuelled run as we celebrated youngest kitten's last official day in school before exams last night. So nice to be able to out and do that at last!
I think the Guinness was quite good fuel actually, though I'm not so sure about the burger. It also turned out to be really good conditions and I came in at 26:49 which I was very pleased with.
Our 5k parkrun hasn't got the nod from the landowners yet but nearly all our surrounding ones are good to go on 5th June. We're keeping everything crossed for positive noises soon. Fingers crossed that we all have good news soon 🤞
You might have to join Windoze at Leam if things are a bit slow at SUA. I’m going to have to do Lincoln I think as Market Rasen racecourse will have geegees on it on 5 June
It would be Windoze 50th so I’m feeling a bit torn! Katnap has already said he’ll be joining Windoze. Maybe the council will make the decision for me but I don’t think that would be a good thing. 😟 At least there will be choices for both of us though.
Happy May Day Damienair. Another not quite normal Bank Holiday weekend!
I ran my 77th (not) Parkrun yesterday morning with the Southsea crew. I went out pretty hard (with UTS) against the wind in the first half, and I should have got a good time. But I then started to feel it in my calves, following my hilly run earlier in the week and had to take a few walking breaks. Overall time 34:40.
Did mine on Tuesday. Had my second jab on Sunday and no after effects apart from a slight numbness in the arm for a few days. Did a 4K on Thursday and went to the pub for my Birthday yesterday. I am leaving my next run til Monday as I hadn't been to the pub since what seems to be years. So I had some catching up to do....
Happy Bank Holiday everyone! I’m a day late this week as we had an early start yesterday to drive down to Bedfordshire to pick up our snazzy new campervan. As we were that way, we dropped in on my sister-in-law near Cambridge for coffee and got to meet our new little great nephew, who is now 10 months old. Lovely to catch up after well over a year. Anyway, my 44th official (not) parkrun this morning in bright sunshine and a time of 30.53, only my 4th below 31 mins although still not managed to get back sub 30 ☹️ I’ve decided I’m going to do a couple of extra official runs over the next month to reach 50 on 29th May, then 37th real parkrun the following week 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Did 5k with an average of 6.57 so chuffed with that as building 2 hills into my run. Wouldn’t mind not being at the back when PR starts again so going to build back up to 10k again. I only ever did it once so feel a bit of a fraud😂. 6k run last week so aiming to get a 7k in this week. So now I’ve said it I’ll have to do it 👍. Hope everyone is enjoying slightly cooler runs this weekend
Hi, I started running during the past 10 months and have built up from completion of C25K to running between 5-10k three times a week, including a Saturday morning. I love the idea of this and would like to take part.Yesterday I ran just over 5k (3.13 mile) in 41:26, I ran around my local park and normally have music to run to, but had some technical issues so decided to put the earbuds away and listen to the birdsong instead. Absolute bliss😊
Only fitted in 2 runs this week, so planned for today as a 5K. Was going to use the local Park Run Course...but got held up with some faffage...so revisited my Lockdown Incline Run. I ran with NRC...but to be fair, wasn’t really listening to Coach Bennett 🙄🤷🏻♀️
Anyway...was totally gobsmacked when I checked my completed times...Scored a 5km PR...and a shed load of Strava bling!🥇🥇🥇
So time of 41:28...splits: 7:26, 7:45, 8:20, 8:46, 8:55 😳
Average pace 8:14...entered as my 36th (not) Park Run, and was given an age grade of 49.64% 😊
