To be honest, with everything that's been happening, combined with a lack of sleep, I haven't really had the energy to put one foot in front of the other. The physio's exercises have totally gone to pot too.
I haven't run as far as 5k since the end of March. I'm not counting the HU Spring Virtual 10k on April 2nd, when I injured my hip as I had started walking before reaching 5km.
But I was determined to do a 5k today as my final run of the group COGH Ultra Relay. I can't pretend it was easy. In fact it was a real struggle, especially over the final 1.5k, but I did itπ
And I'm glad that I did.
Mr B is making bacon and egg rolls as I type this. The perfect post run brunch! π
Th photo is in the woods at the end of my run - wearing the official COGH T-shirt of course! I really enjoyed the COGH relay - it's been an amazing journey and a privilege to be part of something so special.

Great result for you with everything else going on. COGH has been a great experience and Iβve really enjoyed being part of it. Hope all goes well for you an your family. ππΌπ
Yes it's been a special experience and has helped me get out there and walk when I couldn't run or run and even when I felt I wasn't able toThanks for the kind thoughts π€
Fabulous Birdlady! Iβm with you on the lack of running - I havenβt managed a 5k run since Jan, although I have done it as a walk. And itβs the hip thatβs stopping me too - isnβt it infuriating! But weβve done our bit for COGH so we can be proud of that- hasnβt it been brilliant! Definitely deserving of an egg and bacon roll!
Yes the hip thing is pants. Mine was getting so much better but feels a bit like I'm going backwards the last couple of weeks. The COGH relay had been great and had kept me ticking over when it would have been easier to sofa surf
Hope things improve for you I don't know what I would do without running in my life π
Well done π₯³ it's a real milestone getting back to 5k after an injury and a great day to do it on your last COGH run. I'm a while away from reaching 5k again, last one was back at the beginning of April, but it'll happen eventually.Hope you get a good night sleep tonight ππ€
Thanks dijepAm sure it will happen for you. I keep thinking that I can just go out and run a nice comfy 10k, like it was a couple of months ago, but I just don't have it in me right now.
You bet! Life is tough for you atm but you found your inner grit to do this 5k which has done you good and helped the COGH team over the line πjust pamper that hip a bit now, do what's comfortable for both hip and fitness and then increase by small amounts, back to basics is my recommendation and target your personal fitness. You will get back to where you were and it will be your personal achievement π€
Thanks so much for those kind words. When Dad was taken into hospital that was not the outcome any of us were expecting. The running, walking and swims help a lot though. How's it going with you? I hope your back problems are improving
Aw, thanks for asking. I went and got a second opinion as I was worried by how long the issue has been dragging on. I havenβt had a pain-free day since I can remember
My mind has eased as I was given a similar prognosis, and again, was told I am ok to run on days I feel up to it.
Still.. my job is physically demanding so I think itβs best to just hold off for a while. Iβve just about come to terms with the fact that Iβll just have to start running from scratch again. Ho-hum!
Indielassβ words keep coming back to me; her physio said she could start running again after 5 days of being pain-free. Sounds very sensible indeed so until then (if I can bear to wait) a ton of core strength exercises are my new regime!

I havenβt been on the forum much since my injury but me and all your other VRBs are thinking of you. I hope you can feel the virtual hugs on the extra tough days because I can guarantee they are there π
Thanks so much - that means a lot.Its good that your second opinion agreed with the first. Good luck with the strengthening exercises - mine have been sorely absent the last couple of weeks - and hopefully you will be able to get some runs in soon
Aww thanks Al. I was exhausted at the end but really happy and I had a lovely walk home through the woods too. The COGH relay has been a great incentive to get outside
Congratulations Birdlady. That's an awesome distance as far as I'm concerned. Maybe you can pick up your physio exercises now this amazing feat is complete.
Aww thanks Rebecca. Yes Mr B has been a total starββ¨
Well done BL , a great run to end the most amazing relay even though it wasnβt t easy you nailed it, itβs been great being part of COGH with you & the rest of the team π€
