Woo Hoo - I did it!!

It may be coincidence or maybe it is the key to success but I over slept again today. I wanted to get up a bit earlier to get my run in before the rest of my tribe were up as we had an early appointment we had to go to.

I got up and immediately my husband realised I had overslept and that I was going to miss out on my run. A sleepy voice said that he would get up now too so he could get showered before the kids were up so to just go. I must admit I did not put up as much of a fight as I should have but got into my running gear quickly in case he changed his mind.

I started my walk and hoped that the rain would keep off as I am not keen on running all soggy. Just as I arrived at the start of my run I remembered to start the timer on my watch. I am not convinced that the automatic run detection accurately records the start and finish and as it uses more battery to track the GPS I have switched it off. I have previously checked the route length a few times and it has always come out at 5K so I am confident of that.

I set of steady so as not t tire too early and slowly increased my pace. About half way round I have to cross a small road, which is normally traffic free at that time of day. Not today! Three cars came up to the junction just as I was about to cross. Had it been any busier on the main road they would have had to stop and I could have nipped in between. But no, they kept moving slowly and had to wait until I could get behind the last one.

I carried on, at my previous pace until I got to the end. I ended my stopwatch timer and glanced down. Amazingly, I had completed my run in 29'27". WOW!! I have actually done a sub 30 minute 5K and with quite a bit to spare.

Had the run been incident free I would probably leave it at that, but I know I could have been a bit quicker on a clear run so I will have another go at some time.

My cool down walk was more like a cool down skip as I was please to have confirmation of a milestone. I like to set myself various targets when running, not necessarily speed, but normally distance or running time but this is definitely one of the big ones.

I got home and again my husband tried to sound suitably impressed and enthusiastic with his "Wow, that's fantastic, well done!", but it did come across more like "Get your self showered and dressed or we will be late!" Oh well, at least I was pleased.

:) :) :)

Congratulations-sub 30 mins!!!! 🏆🏆🏆🏅🏅🏅. You have to be a runner to realise how important those pbs are especially when you crash a time barrier!!. I've only gone sub 30 twice and was so excited both times.

Great run
