Let’s get the photo out the way, our park is beautiful this time of year and it smells divine, we thank our lucky stars we haven’t got hayfever though.
First Fartlek run, which apparently means speed play and eventually we will be able to say it out loud without sniggering.... good old coach B
I like this, it hardly gives me time to think, speed up slow down run easy run faster slow down run fastest and before I knew it the last 30 seconds were a celebration run which was fast but not fastest and I ended with a grin😀
Not so Willow, 13.5 minutes in and as I passed him he bent double and said “i’m done”
I seriously didn’t tell him he went too fast and wore himself out, I wouldn’t be that mean but he knows it and came home talking about pacing himself better next time.
I want to go again lol 😂 can I go now??? 🤪what a nut I am
I flipping loved that run, even though overall pace was slow 9.41km and I got stitch on the warm up run, too much food at work this afternoon but by going really slow in the easy running parts and holding my side in the faster parts I managed to get rid of it by the end of the run.

Yes yes yes! Fartleks are so much fun! Couldn’t agree more about how it completely removes the thinking from your run, you just concentrate on the moment in hand 💛
Also grateful over here for being hay-fever free. There was so much freshly cut grass on my outing yesterday. Such a heavenly summery smell!
I laughed and laughed but poor Willow went too fast and wore himself out he won’t push so fast next time. The fastest run in the middle was my fastest ever at 4.39/km
Hi Sola, sorry about Willow bending double at 13.5 and saying 'I'm done', of course he's not done, he was just running a little too fast whereas you were running at the correct pace, talking about 4.39/km pace, the only time I have run at that pace was to catch a bus after an evening out at a concert, the concert ended at 9.30 pm, the bus was due to leave at 9.35 pm, I usually walk to the bus station in around 7 minutes, this time I had to run and did catch the bus with 30 seconds to spare, I was much more tired after that run than when I run a 10K at 7.30Km pace.
Thanks Al, well that fast bit was only 15 seconds and I stretched our and enjoyed myself, Willow of course was in front end had to stop but hell pace himself better next time
Well he ran himself out of energy, I’ve now got a slight ache to my knees so maybe I pushed a bit hard too so maybe the next run will be more steady, the best bit though was running after work, we’ve really got out of the habit and it does give a gap between work and home
Glad you enjoyed your run, i've never tried these runs, always worry, as i normaly run quite slow, i'll pull something, anyway, maybe one day i'll try it. 🤔
What a brilliant post. You've inspired me to have a go, it sounds like so much fun! But I'll make sure I pace myself, lesson learned from poor Willow 👍
Oh that does sound like fun Sola! I’m a very late adopter to NRC and Coach Bennett. I’ve had it on my phone for nearly 3 years and I did my first 2 runs this week! 😂 I’ve enjoyed them both so I think I might try your run next week. 🏃♀️🏃♀️
Yes Willow clearly went off too fast! But yours sounded brilliant Sola. Well done. 👏👏👏
We are concentrating on shorter runs so that fun ones are great, I know what you mean about having it but not using it, I had it on my phone for months, I love running faster but know I can’t keep it up so fartkeks are perfect Have fun with yours
Fab that you enjoyed the fartleks SueAppleRun ! I've occasionally tried, might give them a go again sometime, but just improvising, not with a guided run. I've deliberately avoided those since I finished C25K, as I really don't like being told what to do when, especially since I run on far from flat terrain. I'm such a stroppy little thing!
Ha ha ha, I am too a stroppy little thing but Willow likes to follow a plan, we’ve been talking about one fartlek one easy run a week and then me go off for a long run once a week because i like running round the roads and going a long way but Willow feels happy with a couple 20 minutes runs a week
