(not)parkrun - Everyone welcome to join in.

It’s another Saturday morning which means it’s time for another (not)parkrun. For anyone new to this, a group of us here run 5K every Saturday morning and we pretend that we have just done a parkrun. We then post our little run reports below. You can do the run any time over the weekend.

So you are all welcome to join in every Saturday morning. This morning it is raining very hard. I have not run all week. I lost a bit of motivation. But I will go out at around lunch time and I will do my 5K.

Happy running everyone and l am looking forward to reading all the run reports later.

Damien

Good morning! It is raining and blowing hard here this morning, which is why I decided to do my (not) parkrun yesterday 😃 It was a beautiful morning, sun shining, birds singing and my first run since my (not) parkrun on Sunday. Not sure why, but just didn’t have the motivation. Anyway, it was a good run and only 2 seconds slower than my (not) parkrun PB at 30.42. Number 45 done, 5 more to go in the next 4 weeks. Might do another tomorrow and then the next will be along the shore of Loch Lomond on Tuesday as we start our tour of Scotland on Monday 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hello Sandie, I notice that you are going to run a 5K while on holiday along the shore of Loch Lomond on Tuesday, I wish you luck for that, which reminds me that 3 years ago, to be exact it was Monday 14th May 2018, I ran run 3 of of week 4 of C25K along the shore of Loch Lomond in the countryside park near Balloch.

Morning running folk! Like Sandie1961 I did my (not) PR yesterday to avoid today’s weather. I’ve endured plenty of foul weather running on the common and if it can be avoided, I will! 💨💦

Anyway, yesterday I intended to set JogRunSprint for my run, but didn’t. 🙄 Rather than stop and set it I thought I’d just run and see what happened. Well a PB of 33:19 happened that’s what! I’m ever so slowly chipping away at my times. Lowly compared to many, but for me it’s supersonic! 💥

In celebration I treated myself to a slow trail 5k this morning, but avoided the common. I couldn’t resist, even though I could have stayed at home! Nuts. 😅

Happy running everyone. 😀

Hi Damienair, can my 6K run on the treadmill count? I wasn't brave enough to run in that rain this morning, so slogged out a 5K stopped for some water and done another K 🙂

Really prefer running outside but when the weather is as bad as it was this morning,I'm grateful to have the treadmill 🙏

I'm training for a HM so don't want to lose to many runs due to the weather 🙄🌧️🧢🏃‍♀️

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10

Hi Damien, I hope you enjoy your 5K run today and hopefully the rain will ease or go off.

I ran my 47th (not) parkrun on Friday morning in a dry but cloudy morning in a time of 35.04 which is the same exact time as two weeks ago when I ran number 45, on both occasions I set my metromone app at 170 cadence. I seem to be good a pacing myself with that app, when I set it at 173 cadence, I ran 2 runs with the exact same time which were 34.23, (not parkruns No 44 and 46)

How about this TailChaser and Damien, did you hear about the 12 years old Belfast girl who ran a 5K in a record breaking time of 16.40, wow, that is fast, she regularly runs 5K sub 18 minutes. 😊 🏃🏾

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toAlMorr

Wow. That is super speedy. She has a very bright future in Athletics I'm sure.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply todamienair

Let’s hope so. So many girls stop doing athletics at that age.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

I know, she’s amazing! She must be naturally gifted to be able to run like that. We have someone in our athletics club like that: he regularly took top parkrun place when he was 12-13 but I suspect she might even beat him.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toTailChaser

I once unofficially timed a junior 1K race, the official clock was only timing the 5K and 10K runs, the first junior to complete that 1K run, a girl, ran it in 3.27 which if it had been a 5K would have been ran in about 17 minutes, most of the other runners ran that 1K in more than 4 minutes or more, whether that girl could have kept up that pace will never be known.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toTailChaser

Thanks Al and TC. I don't know how it happened. A few days rest should sort me out.

RunaroundSue profile image

We ran in the rain and wind this morning. I set my Gymboss but just ran through the walking sections. I like the beeps though. After the Vitality 10K I might set it to beep at my average km pace without the walking breaks.

The run today wasn't quite as bad as we expected, although part was running right into the wind. The worst of it was the walk home afterwards, but guess what!

We didn't have our 2nd breakfast outside the golf club today :) Instead we went home, threw all the wet clothes in the washing machine, showered then phoned for takeaway bacon toasties. Geoff went to fetch them wearing cagoule and overtrousers .

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toRunaroundSue

Well done on going out in that weather. I’m sure the bacon toasties were a lovely post run treat. Happy running.

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10

No run in the rain for me today as we did a (not) parkrun meet up on Wednesday and David_G joined us in Southsea. In true parkrun spirit 4 of us cruised along together along the official parkrun route. And of course we ended up sitting outside in the sunshine having breakfast and chatter.

Nest week will be exciting as my (not) parkrun will be a real chip-timed race with 3000 runners at Kempton Park Racecourse as part of a government research event. If anyone is interested, there is a pinned post about it.

I am not running this weekend. The collective wisdom of the group here has advised me not to, but to rest the niggle instead. I'm also drained after working in a polling station from 6.15am to 10.20pm on Thursday, not getting home before 10.40pm.

I did a very pleasant 5km walk yesterday evening, including picking up our regular fish-and-chips-twice from the chippy on the way back.

Today I'm sticking indoors. The weather is foul, and there's plenty of stuff needing to be done round the house.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply tonowster

I'm joining you. I don't know how it happened but I have developed a very sore right ankle. It is even paining me at rest. I don't remember twisting it or hurting it in any way. So it will be loads of rest for me too.

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate10 in reply todamienair

Ouch! I assume you're doing the usual things like icing it? Ankle ligaments are weird things. You might have injured it days ago. When I did my ankle in last year it took a week for it to swell up and properly start hurting.

I'm hoping to do an easy run tomorrow morning.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10

Afternoon Damien and all! Bit of a busy day and just about pooped now. My 2nd jab was booked in for 9am and we had the hairdresser coming round at 10am, so the only time I had to run was about 7.15 this morning to make sure I was in time with everything else. And of course, the weather....I've been soaked and blown twice this morning so not sure if I'm now feeling tired because of the weather or the jab. At least my hair looks much better and not quite as grey either! I know the jab is having an affect though as my arm is getting increasingly sore again.

Today's run, as I mentioned, was early and wet and windy! We did our usual route, and funnily enough there were very few people about and very few dog walkers! The only thing we did have was the 'puddle of doom' as Vassos Alexander would put it, that appears every so often about 4km in. This is in a dip in the road at the bottom of a downhill section. When the puddle appears it stretches across the whole of a fairly busy road. Just as we neared it, a car transporter laden with transit vans appears, so we had to stop as it sprayed water in every direction. Once it had gone through we carried on, when another appeared, laden with SUVs! Katnap waved frantically to warn the driver of the puddle and to get him to slow down but to no avail - they drove right through it! Thankfully we managed to get on top of an incline and avoided the spray by fractions of seconds!

By the end of the run though (27:58 btw), we may as well have been sprayed by those lorries as we were soaked to the bone. I had 10 minutes to get home, towel my legs down, get changed into jeans and go out again for my jab. I did get the chance on the way back home to treat myself to a huge cinnamon whirl together with some sourdough for our lunchtime bacon😋 . I also came home to this medal which I got for last week's 5k 😍 Oh yes, and also, the really good news for the week is that our parkrun has got 'Permission to Return' on 5th June!! Yaaaay!!

I'm going to have a nice curl up on the sofa now 😊 Have a lovely, runny weekend everyone 🙌

Hmmm....maybe this should have been a separate post 🤣

damienair profile image

Very well done TC. Another great run especially in those conditions. Hope your feeling better today and your arm is not too sore. I had my first jab last Thursday, no side effects other than a sore arm, muscle, for about 24 hours or so. I must say I was so chuffed getting it, it is another step closer to parkrun and normality. I am so looking forward to reading and hearing all about the return of parkrun to England on the 5th of June. We will be a few months behind, but each week will be a step closer.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply todamienair

Exactly Damien, we’re getting nearer and nearer. I think the forum is going to be deluged with posts when it returns!

Good news with your jab. The nurse did warn me that some people react more to the second than the first. Don’t know if that’s just the Pfizer or all of them. Still feeling fairly knocked out today after a bad night’s sleep so no long Sunday run. Hopefully I’ll be ok tomorrow and back to it 🤞

Hi Damienair and fellow virtual (not) parkrunners .I did my v(n)pr today in the rain . It was hard work in some of the windier stretches but not cold so, bizarrely, I enjoyed the weather aspect of the run. However, my legs were not so happy. Possibly still a little tired from last weekend's long run, dehydration or a few longer than normal days at the desk this week? ..I don't know but certainly there was a lack of "umph" and a few odd twinges.

My 5k time(last 5k of 8k run) was 33:05 so nowhere near a pb but every step worth it for the hot shower, coffee and giant bowl of porridge and post run glow which followed. Happy running 🏃‍♀️😊

Did 5K on Wednesday after Sunday's 10K. I think I've been running through injuries rather than just niggles as my times have got slower and more painful if I'm honest. So I am going to be very brave and give it at least 10 days rest with a bit of Strength training. I will see what walking is like tomorrow. Today looks miserable outside.

Well done everyone on getting out there and running the (not)Parkrun this weekend.

I ventured out later on Saturday as the forecast predicted the wind would ease off plus I was desperate to try out a new pair of running shoes. I ended up waiting until 6pm before setting off as the wind had eased off a little by then.

I also decided to wear a vest for the first time this year and as it turned out it was a great idea as it was really rather warm plus this was going to be a tempo run so a lot more heat would be generated 🥵

I ended up running two back to back parkruns, otherwise known as a 10k.

I crossed the line in the first 5k in 24.10 and the second in an identical 24.10 which I was happy with as I haven’t run a sub 50 10k since injuring my ankle in February.

The shoes (Nike Infinity 2), were good and I may keep them but I have to decide between these and another pair (Nike Invincible) which I ran in last time out which were also really good. A tricky but nice decision 😊

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply toRunBrianRun
