Back! . . . well nearly

I've recently had more weeks off running than I've had for years, it all started with the cold from hell which then turned into sinusitis. All of that lasted well over three weeks. I've read (I think it was Runners World) that you should allow the same amount of time it has taken you to recover to get back to the level of fitness you had previously. Taking that advice I've been taking it easy with plenty of rest days and short distances. 3k's have felt like marathons with average heart rates of over 180bpm at times. I'm now on my recovery week 2 and have just completed a slightly more normal 5k this morning (34 mins), hopefully this is a sign running is getting back to normal. Hope everybody is well and the running is going OK.

Fantastic and welcome back to running. Hope your feeling better. I just tapered off and started running slower due to no races or parkruns to train for. Now I am finding it hard to speed up again. Just like you it is currently taking me 34 mins to run 5K. I need to work on increasing my distance again to build up endurance. Well done.

Yes it certainly takes a while and it sometimes feels like you will never get back but certainly feeling more positive after the 5k today 👍🙂
