Unexpected surprise

Went out for a run this afternoon. I've not run longer than 40 minutes before so I didn't set any targets except to try a slower run. Before I knew it I had got to the 10k.

Well done, and an amazing pace for a 10K 👍

I do prefer running at a good pace on my shorter runs. It makes my longer runs easier when I drop the pace slightly. I just had a good day today. Two days ago I really struggled on a 35 minute run!

That's a truly brilliant run done at a great pace. 👍👍👍. I see from your last post you only graduated a month ago, WOW. I graduated 2 weeks ago and only managed 8.72km in the hour. I'd love to know how you prepped for that one!

I have kept doing the 30/40 minute runs and have been running around 5.30 every kilometre. I am now fairly comfortable at that pace and distance. Like everyone I can have bad days. I found today that if I droped my pace it was very comfortable and when I got to 7k I thought I could do the 10. Either that or the Nike app is kidding me! Must admit that the tank was empty at the end. The weather was perfect as well.

That's interesting, I'm nowhere near your pace having only managed to run under 30min for the 5km once. I was planning on slowly increasing my distance by running at a easy pace (7.2/km as suggested by the run calculator, based on my PB). So probably x4 runs at 7, 8@8.5km and then maybe run intervals for the 5th run. Having read your reply I'm not so sure. Perhaps I'll try increasing my pace over shorter runs first. I know we're all different, so I guess I'll just have to feel my way and see what works for me.

I do try to push it. A bit. It goes against most of the advice but I feel more comfortable at a faster pace where I can't hold a conversation. As you say we're all different but injuries are a concern at the higher paces. Good luck anyway.

"try a slower run"?!?

A sub-hour 10km is most definitely not a slower run.

Well done! 👍

Nice one Javo! That's a great pace, especially for your first 10k. I've found that moderately paced runs are a great way of doing longer distances at a good pace. I think you're aware of this but now seems a good time to ease back a bit and do some consolidation.

True. I will go back to shorter distances for a few weeks at least. I am also planning some hill work as runs have been on the flat. Thanks
