My response isn't Asics specific, but with my runners I always go for one half size larger because feet swell when running. It's also worth knowing about "degree of drop", "pronation/stability" and "width of toe box" but I recognise you might know this stuff already.
I had to go one size up on mine. I got them online when I started increasing distance and my knees were complaining because I was using trail shoes on hard surfaces. It turns out that they don't have enough arch support for me so while they're better for my knees, I now have problems with my foot. I only realised this after a few long runs so it may be worth holding on until the shops reopen and getting a proper gait analysis.
Can I ask what problems you have with your foot? I went for a 10 mile run in trail shoes and half the run was on pavements and now my foot really hurts...
Oh no, sorry to hear that. For me it's the arch of my foot that feels really tight. At its worst I get a sharp pain every time I put weight on the foot when I walk on it. It doesn't hurt when I run though. Icing every time I go for a run plus strength and stretch exercises and rolling do help a lot. I do a few of these every day: healthline.com/health/fitne...
I'd recommend going a full size up. My ASICS are 1/2 size up - they felt (feel) fine in cold weather but as soon as the weather starts to warm up my toes complain.
I bought my Asics in a running shop and they told me to go up one full size from a 4 to a 5 and they have been fine. I need control shoes as I have no arches!
