Good morning to you all. It is Saturday again which means it is time for us to run and pretend it's at a parkrun. Only of course we are not at a parkrun, just running our normal 5K on our own, Social Distancing, all that new normal stuff. Well I guess after a year it is just normal now. The new normal will actually be going to the real thing, a real parkrun when they start back up again. I can't wait for the real new normal where we hug friends and high five each other at a real parkrun. But until then we carry on. I think this is a year and 2 weeks of parkrun being stopped, who would have thought? Anyway, we are running, we are still running. When so many fellow parkrunners have stopped running we have all continued on, not only that but we have new people joining us every week which is fantastic. If your reading this for the first time, welcome. All you have to do is Jog, Walk or Run (and any combination of the 3) for 5K at your own pace and pop back here under this thread afterwards and let us all know how you got on. I am going to spend a few hours gardening today and then I'll be on my way after the Ireland V England Rugby match. Looking forward to reading the replies and catching up later. Happy running.

Morning Damien and friends. 🥰 Not too long until the real thing ..... maybe? 🙏🏻🤞
This was my first run since Tuesday before the vaccine, and boy did I feel it. 🥵 I had the virus back in November, and there’s talk of side effects for those who’ve had it. I had aches and body pains all day Wednesday, but they’d subsided by Thursday - however I’ve felt wishy washy ever since, just like when recovering from the flu. I just stuck to dog walks and only today ventured back out for a run. 🏃♀️
The weather was perfect with nearly no wind (thank you!), but I felt quite muscle-less and rather hot even though I was only in capris and a short sleeved top. My time of 36:48 was exactly how I felt - meh! Still I’m glad I got out and I’ll play my runs by ear next week ahead of the HUHM next Sunday. 💥
Well done cheekychipmunks for getting out there and giving it a go when you weren’t feeling too good. Hopefully you’ll feel better soon and you’ll be ok for the HUHM on Sunday!🙂👍
Well done cheekychipmunks on your run. I spent the whole day yesterday in the garden, planting, digging, watering, mowing and scarifying the lawn. I was absolutely exhausted afterwards. I caught the tail end of the rugby match, had dinner and at that stage I was exhausted. I did enough exercise in the garden I think. So I'll do my (not)parkrun today. Hope you'll be back to normal this week and great to hear you have the jab.
Hi Damien and running friends. I had my first COVID jab on Wednesday (Oxford/AstraZeneca version) without any problems. It was very well organised and everything worked well. I was a bit apprehensive about side-effects but luckily I had none at all.🙂👍
I didn’t run on Thursday anyway just to be safe. I ran a steady 5K yesterday and happily everything was fine.
I decided to run an ‘out and back’ along the seafront at Bognor Regis this morning for my (not) Parkrun. Strangely I seemed to be running into a slight headwind in both directions!😳🤣 The final result was 28:51 which I’m very pleased with🙂 I won’t be doing (not) Parkrun next Saturday as I’m doing the virtual HUHM next Sunday. Wish me luck!😃
Fantastic David, very well done, great running, great time for your (not)parkrun and great to hear you had your jab and all was good. Best wishes for your HUHM next Sunday.
Morning everybody! I was a bit late going out this morning as I was waiting for my pacesetter to get out of bed, only for him to wimp out as he had been having a Zoom poker and beer night with his mates until late! After over 3 months here he’s going back to his own place in London tomorrow too 😭I’ll miss him!
Anyway, after a tough post vaccine 10k on Thursday when my legs felt like lead and I felt wiped out from 6k onwards (despite not even having a sore arm!), I was a bit more hopeful for today. Still felt like a bit of a slog, but a reasonable if sweaty 31.44. The weather is definitely warming up.
Good morning Damien, I ran my 40th (not) parkrun yesterday in a time of 36.50, my leg is almost better so I am quite pleased with that time considering that I walked for 6 minutes, I had run 1 of week 5 of C25K with Laura, there are 2/3 minute walks on that run with 2/5 minute runs, after the app finished I continued to run until the 5K were completed.
Thanks Doris8, I enjoyed yesterday's 5K run, this morning I walked 5K around the course of my home parkrun, I saw a few runners who recognised me, they hope the official Parkruns will restart in July.
Thanks Week7, apart from that injury to my leg a few weeks ago, all my official parkrun times, 17 of them have been sub 35 minutes, until recently my (not) parkrun times have also been sub 35 minutes, my slowest ever 5K was when I walked a not parkrun in 56.09 because of my right leg, that was on February 20th, four weeks ago so yesterday's time of 36.50 is indeed a little quicker than Feb 20th.
Hi AlMorr, you just made me laugh out loud at myself.....I like your 'my slowest ever...when I walked....56.09m'. I 'ran' my 5K today in 50m 40s!! There's me puffing and panting to get around, and you having a leisurely stroll and we come in about the same time!!
Don't worry about time 030961, the main thing is that you got out and ran that 5K in your comfortable own time of 50.40, well done, over the next few weeks or months I am sure you will get a sub 50 or sub 40 minutes 5K, even if you don't, the main thing is to get outside and enjoy your running irrespective of the time you run it in, there are a lot of disappointed runners if their 5K times are sub 20 or sub 40 minutes 5K times are not achieved, this happens a lot, I was at a parkrun over a year ago, a runner was very disappointed because she did not get her usual sub 33 minutes time, on that occasion her time was 33.38, sometimes some runners get really worried because they get a poor time, even if it's just a little slower than they expect.
Please don't worry about only replying now, I know that you are very busy just now, my leg is completely better but as I have been out of practice, between that very cold weather with the ice and snow then my right leg playing up I am running with several of the weeks and runs of C25K, I am not doing the whole course again but doing some of the longer runs, on Saturday morning for my 40th not parkrun I used run 1 of week 5 then continued to run non stop until the 5K was completed, next Saturday for my 41st not parkrun I'll run to run 2 of week 6, once the app is complete I will continue to run until 5K is completed.
What a beautiful day up here. 12 degrees, no wind chill and a clear blue sky. Two shirts and shorts were all that was needed. Today, I absolutely needed to do 5k after weeks of faffing about, so I set off into the woods with nothing else in mind. Pace was irrelevant. My dicky achilles felt ok, so I opted for my nice soft Hokas instead of my 10mm drop trails. Result was a really steady 34:56, but I made it! I have clearly lost a lot of fitness, but I can work on that. I have had enough injuries to last me for a few years now.....time to become a runner again! A nice happy ending? Flat white and triple chocolate brownie. The world seems a better place 🙂
Thanks Sandie. Not sure about London☹️; I am just going to take things really steadily so that I run freely again instead of waiting for the pain to start at every step. 10k seems like a long distance at present. Time to chill a bit really. We have spent the last 3 weeks sorting out my mother's finances and then clearing her house. Nearly there now. At least she is really happy with her new home and they are all vaccinated at least once👍
Good news about your mum. Clearing out a lifetime of memories is so hard though! My parents have both had their 2nd jab and my dad has finally got a date of 1 April for his hospital procedure which was due to happen mid December. Thank goodness things are starting to move forward again!
Thankfully the care home is allowing one visitor per week in rooms, so we can take things for mum to look at and she can decide whether she would like to have them in her room. Her dementia is such that she wouldn’t be able draw up a list from memory. She is safe, eating well and laughing a lot; all we can ask for really.
Ambrosia washed down with nectar CC. Well done for beating the post jab syndrome. The second one is supposed to be easier; whatever, we need it! Hope HM2 goes smoothly and the ground has hardened up a bit for you 🙂
Very well done Beachcomber66 , I know what you mean, I have lost so much fitness too. It is hard to bounce back to old form without having anything to actually train for. I did a 5K yesterday and pushed myself a bit harder. It felt good, but I don't have any niggles. I hope your dicky achilles gets sorted soon.
Thanks Damien; I think I am making progress at last.🤞 I am ok once I know that I am getting on top of an injury. Patiently building up fitness isn't a problem; each run feels better than the previous one, so I know that I will get there...eventually.
Hiya Damien and all! You were early this morning! We’ll be going to the garden centre shortly so will be ‘joining’ you gardening at some point soon.
Feeling a bit short changed by my run this morning as I had a watch glitch. Started a little earlier on the route than usual but the GPS took ages to kick in and missed the first km. I was with Katnap most of the way until the final corner but I then had to run another 400m until the 5km bleeped up. Officially it was 28:06 but I reckon it was 40 secs to 1 min quicker than that. Never mind, it wasn’t going to be a pb or anything and at least it’s done. I can only think the lack of battery charge put its knickers in a twist, and you really don’t want to run like that 🤣
Hope everyone has a fab running week. It’s the build up to the Spring HUHM & 10k, so it will be a gentle week for me (I’m not going to taper, I get too bad tempered!).
Hello running buddies. I did my (not) parkrun on Thursday this week. The first half accompanied by UpTheStanley as he started his 10k run. The first 3k were fine but during the 4th and 5th I gave in to the urge to take walking breaks. I don’t beat myself up about this anymore, just put it down to one of those days, and it could be down to weariness experienced since my vaccination last week, or maybe I pushed it a bit too much after leaving my buddy.
Total time 33.58
Just in case anyone missed the announcement this week, parkrun are no longer able to give free milestone t-shirts after September, so a charge of £15 will be made, to include p&p. There’s no doubt, It had to come as parkrun has grown globally beyond its wildest dreams. In addition they are going to introduce a 25 run/walk T-shirt, and also produce volunteer shirts for the same milestones as run/walkers. A great decision, as we have many people who volunteer every week and this can now be recognised and celebrated .
It makes sense with the shirts. As Nick Pearson said, they are a health & welfare charity not a T-shirt company. I’m 4 off 50 volunteers and I know a lot of fellow volunteers will really appreciate being able to mark the bigger landmarks in similar ways to the runner shirts. However, I’m looking forward to getting my 100 runs in 27 parkruns a lot more 😁
Yes the milestones for volunteers was being discussed before lockdown and I’m glad that it’s happening. 28 runs until my 100 too TC, and I don’t mind paying at all.
The announcement makes perfect sense Dexy and I guess is also a reflection of the increased numbers they expect to be doing parkrun after lockdown - which can only be a good thing!
Hi there Damienair and fellow virtual (not) park runners. I went out a bit later today .I wasn't sure whether to go or not following covid vaccination on Thursday which left me feeling quite grotty yesterday evening.I felt fine this morning and after a walk to test legs, lots of water and reading Sparky66 post about running after vaccine I set out to do the progression run which Mr Garmin requested. It felt really hard but I speeded up towards the end. Last 5k 32.56 so not fast but the run did me so much good.I feel really great now!Safe running all.
Good run for you today Week7, not fast, 32.56 isn't slow, that's a good time, so you ran 48 hours after getting your 1st Covid 19 vaccination, well done.
Not park run, just over 5k, a big hill and 32 mins later I was done. My hair kept falling in my eyes, and I wondered about a self administered (or black market) haircut. 😜Weather was glorious and the lough was like glass, so I took a photo. This is Coney Island. St Patrick stayed here whilst on pilgrimage. Later, and less holy (more holy moly 😉) Edward and Lily Langtry has a secret assignation here.
Busy day yesterday - no time even for a (not) parkrun. So I did mine on Friday - a nice easy run finishing at 30.32. We're definitely into t-shirt and shorts weather now - hooray!😀
Beautiful morning a wee bit frost but good temperature. Did my not park run this morning . PB 36.09 one of your older runners. Think these 5km walks in between runs helping. Have a good day🤗
Hi Damien and all other 5kers!A cloudy but 'warmish' feel presented no additional Met office problems to deal with. So off I went in the park with my far more accomplished, marathon running friend.
It seemed to come naturally, out in the air, dodging boggy puddles, swerving the many walkers, families, dogs and averting our eyes as a random lady runner relieved herself in the woods - I guess that's just running etiquette! I even had a brief gazelle like moment striding over a deep puddle and feeling smug that that was one load of wet mud I wouldn't be taking home with me!
So on we went, the woods gave way to the large lake where Canadian geese called out to us as we ran passed (think it was well meaning, but who knows🤔).
Still going strong, my friend remarked that I was "....going for it, are you angry at something '😁 So slowed up slightly and carried on to 5.1k in 44'3.
I enjoyed it so much, didn't want to say goodbye to my friend and just wander back off into the day, but needs must in covid times. I will do another though and i'm going to register for a proper park run now as soon as we can.
A real spirit lifter of a run - thank you for suggesting it and best wishes to all. ☺️
Well, I'm still managing to get around 5K on my (not) parkrun this morning. Still plodding along just about beating the snails at 50m 40s! At one stage I did pick up a bit of pace according to my Garmin, but looking back, that bit was going down-hill!! I shall keep plugging away then one day it will happen....the 50m barrier will be smashed!
Sorry, I only managed 4k today: had my vaccination yesterday, and although I'm feeling absolutely fine I didn't want to push things. Also had to fit a run in before taking Child PC2 to catch a train (essential travel), so that was all I had time for. But - managed negative splits for the 1st time ever (I think) - 7.19/7.04/6.53/6.20.
Evening all, Im still chasing that sub 30mins. Graduated last July from C25K and although my long distance times are really improving, I get so close to achieving a sub 30 mins but not quite. SoI did my 5km run yesterday and what a beautiful day to run, no wind, a bit of sun and just lovely countryside. Final time 31:53, getting closer but I don't want the runners up medal I want the gold medal!! I'm hoping that when Park Runs actually restart, the sheer fact of running with everyone else will spur me on as I do get a little competitive ( 👿 😄)
