Good morning everyone. It's that time of the week again. Saturday is parkrun day normally, but that awful COVID-19 has wrecked that part of our lives. But a little group here on this forum are standing strong and we are running our own little private and personal 5K (not)parkrun. We might have a few new runners joining us this morning so remember to say a lovely big friendly hello at the first timers briefing.
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is a 5K run/jog/walk anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun on the website. I only log Saturday runs, when I remember.
Oh yeah, don't forget your post parkrun Coffee and treat.
I don't know about you guys, but it is an awful day here today and it has been raining cats and dogs all week. I have not been walking or running in a few days as I couldn't bring myself to go out into that weather. My back lawn is starting to resemble a lake. But I will go out and run 5K today. Good luck.
Happy running and looking forward to reading all the run reports.

Good morning Damien, I am a bit disappointed with my 46th virtual /33rd (not) parkrun, the weather is fine and sunny, temperature about 0C after a short snowshower during the night, my slowest ever 5K with a time of 41.21, I just couldn't get it together, nevertheless I just kept going until I finished, I never saw any other runners, if I had they all would have overtaken me, I just hope the weather improves where you are.
Hopefully once the warmer weather comes and I can get back to the round the loch run which I usually run in around 32/33 minutes my runs will get quicker, the last two runs were run on the same course as today, sub 37 minutes.
Well done on the 5k. As you always remind anyone else who has had a slower run than usual, the most important thing is that you went out and ran!! Another 5 k not park run to add to the list! Heading rapidly towards your 50th! Time to start working out how to celebrate it?
The way I feel just now I will not run it but walk, however, that's another 4 weeks, hopefully the sore leg that I have had for a few days, by then will no longer be sore, that's why I ran so slow today, not sure why it got sore, I am not blaming it on running, I think it's something to do with the way I lie in bed when sleeping at night. π΄.
I hope your leg improves and you are able to run properly again soon. Either way you will complete that 50th virtual park run which is a very special achievement.
Don't be one bit disappointed because you got out there and ran. That is all that matters. I am the one who should be disappointed. It was lashing cats and dogs for a few days in a row with sleet thrown in for good measure. I just could not bring myself to run in that, cold, gloomy, heavy and freezing rain. No thanks. So I didn't. I feel guilty of course, but anyway I'll run today. It's February now, Spring is here, well in my world anyway.
Well, the 2nd breakfast (bacon, egg and mushroom toastie) was lovely. And two mugs of tea.
But what about the run?, I hear you asking.
It was tough. My legs felt heavy and by the time they had got going properly I was running into the wind.
I just about managed 5.09km before walking back. Although the hill didn't seem as bad as I expected.
However, I did enjoy it in a funny sort of way. According to VRun I took 37.44 which was .01 faster than last week. That is the time I have logged for my (not) parkrun this week.
Very well done. Sorry for my delay in replying. I didn't run. It lashed rain all weekend. My garden is a swamp. I just couldn't go out in it. I feel very guilty, but then again I was warm and dry and I cooked and baked instead. I'll run today.
Looking for confirmation from our record keeper AlMorr but I reckon that 27th February will be our 50th non/(not) parkrun. I can't believe that I joked last year that we would need a t-shirt for all the Saturdays that we have missed the real parkruns. But sadly that has proved to be the case.
So I am proposing that those who have them wear the red 50 t-shirt on that day.
That is correct Sue, 27th February will mark 50 (not) parkruns, on the 13th March it will be 52, which will be a year in the UK (Ireland was a week earlier) that the last official Parkrun took place, I agree with you that runners should wear that 50 T shirt even if they haven't ran 50 (not) parkruns
Indeed, Damien started his virtual parkruns about the beginning of April last year, the runs I do are from the week after the official Parkruns finished, Saturday 21st March was my first virtual parkrun.
The occasional run was moved to a Friday because we were away, eg Delamere Forest Freedom Run and Burrs Country Park GRL on the actual courses. But we counted them as (not)parkruns
Hello everyone! Cloudy with a biting easterly wind (feels like -1) but at least dry and not frozen in Lincolnshire today. I was supposed to be going with my son this morning, but, by the time he got out of bed, heβd decided to skip it, so I headed off on my own. Thank you TailChaser for the music suggestion - who would have guessed my cadence matches Karma Chameleon πDay 30 of RED January and the legs are really feeling it, but not a bad time of 32.44 and I so nearly managed negative splits - 6.45, 6.32, 6.38, 6.26, 6.16. Darn that 3rd km π€ Happy running πββοΈπββοΈ
There are some quite challenging cadences on that playlist π Well done Sandie ππ
Darn chilly out there today damienair but boy that driving sleet it's errrrrr refreshing ππ₯Ά a smidge over 28 minutes so that'll do it also brings up my red January 30th run 162klms just the one to go π
So sorry for my delay in replying. Very well done to you. I wussed out this weekend I must admit, it was raining cats and dogs and sleet and I just could not face it. So very well done to you for going out into that weather. I'll run today instead.
I know. I've been caught out in it loads of times and don't mind it when I am out in that weather. But I just could not push myself out there this weekend. If parkrun had been on I would have of course pushed myself as I have ran through storms at parkrun. I'll make up for it during the week and with my run this evening.
Hi Damienair and lovely running friends! We have a virtual ParkrunπββοΈπββοΈclub where I work and have a virtual catch-up every 6 weeks or so, and weekly email updates.
Today we had our inaugural (not)Parkrun relay run, with 7 teams of 3 runners running 5K each. It was very well organised with a WhatsApp group where we could all exchange thoughts, stories and photos before, during and after the event. It had a friendly Parkrun feel to it and was hugely enjoyable, despite the weather. βοΈπ¦π¨
Although it wasnβt a race, of course the competitive spirit came out! I finished my leg in 28:38 so I was very pleased with that. One of my colleagues got under 20 minutes for his 5K. Amazing! πππ
Hi Damien, been a little lax with posting π€¦π»ββοΈ
Official 5km run on Thursday as part of W4 of Magic Plan. 11C with a faint drizzle when I went out. Weather app said βmoderate breezeβ ie flippinβ windy!
Logged 49:05 on Strava with average pace of 9:47/km.
EDIT: beat the snow and did my 8km run this morning...and Strava popped up to say that I had run my 2nd fastest 5km at 47:58! So just putting that here π
Hi all runners, I ran 5k in 48 minutes and some seconds today so a minute faster than last week, then came home to hot tea and a banana, thank you Willow, he made the tea, poured the bath and handed me a banana out of the bowl, he doesnβt feel at all guilty about staying home and not running today π€£
Oh you've got to Damien, it's never so bad once you get out and get going and you get that extra buzz of adrenaline from going out in something horrible. We went out in something horrible today, just about everything: rain, sleet, sleety rainy bullets, snow, north easterly wind. 2C felt like -4C apparently. I noticed one of my fellow Strava friends had tried to do their (not)parkrun at the park as usual but he'd turned back as the river had taken over most of it.
We always do our run away from the park in the hope it would be less busy. Considering the weather there were a fair few about but also a lot more cars than usual. Still, it didn't stop us. It would take an awful lot to stop us these days.
This was day 30 of RED and I've taken the attitude that I'd be pleased with breaking 30 minutes this month rather than go for it but my legs felt good today and I was very pleased to come in at 27:56 today. 3 out of the 4 RED (not)parkrun Saturday runs have been under 28 minutes so it's not affecting my consistency. Joe Wicks with the kittens seems to be killing my legs more than RED January! Unfortunately that little extra won't be finishing any time soon.
Well done. I don't think I could run every day. My legs really feel it if I don't have a rest day. Even 5 miles walking or running every day for LeJog was tough at times.
I was surprised Sue. The only time I find it really tough is after the Joe Wicks sessions. You might surprise yourself if you gave it a go. Some of us are only doing a mile just to say we've run. 5 miles is a long way.
We are still walking every day, but down to about 10000 steps most days at the moment. The weather hasn't enticed us to do some of our longer, more interesting walks.
We've not done too badly on our run days but some of the walk days it has been hard to go out. Last week we resorted to walking to homebase to return some unused paint. Neither vehicle needed to be used and it was good to have a destination to head for rather than trudging aimlessly through the rain.
We want to go to the fishmonger in Marple but on a nicer day - the canal towpath is very muddy (I know that because I have seen the state of Geoff's legs, socks and shoes after his Wednesday run )
Last week we finally finished our decorating in the hope that we will be able to do some gardening before too much longer. It would be so annoying to have gone all this time and still not opened the paint tins
Itβs a great excuse for a walk doing something like that. Weβve barely used the car this year - Katnap is planning a walk to Lidl soon which is about a 4 mile round trip. And also it means you can count it as shopping and go out for exercise another time that day.
I can imagine what Geoffβs shoes are like, ours are still sitting in the car since before lockdown because no one can brave cleaning them outside.
We try to move our campervan every couple of weeks (as we do every winter), to keep the 2 batteries charged and to move the wheels.
We are driving the car about once a week now. Normally it is only used 2 or 3 times a week anyway (parkrun, ukulele night and an occasional trip to Morrisons.)
After the first lockdown we had to have the car's brakes replaced because they had rusted up. The same thing happened to my brother.
So we make sure to have a good reason for a short journey now and then.
Hi Damienair and fellow virtual (not) park runners. The snow last weekend lingered til Monday here so I missed a couple of runs but managed to fit in a quick-just gotta run-30 min run after work on Wednesday. Did 5k today, it was damp ,but not damp enough to deter walkers so was a bit stop start. Also, legs felt heavy- my fault for not drinking enough yesterday . Time 32:59 so not my best but still happy- this time last year I couldn't run 50 metres let alone 5k-what a difference a year makes! (Actually 9months since I started c25k so less than a year-)
Ha ha I run before breakfast, once the weather dries up a bit i will work on speed, this morning there was a long stretch of gravelly path and I didnβt want to slip so took it nice and slow
Done my 4th (not)parkrun yesterday. I am currently alternating 2 routes and knocked 20 seconds off the time for my first two 5K runs over each route. Yesterday was only 11 seconds off my PB last week but this week I was on my harder route. I will play around with lacing to see if that cures the pins and needles in my right foot which set in at 2.5K (again!) This was part of my JJ'sMP 50 minute run and thankfully (but ironically) it disappeared at 5.3Km so on the last (almost) 500m my foot was fine.
I plan to run 5K on Saturdays but took a day off and did it yesterday so I could donate blood today. Good thing too. Yesterday I ran in a T shirt (and tracie bottoms). Today I'd have needed snorkel and flippers! Well done to all those running in the interminable rain today.
Hi all, I'm afraid I wimped out yet again this week and did my (not) parkrun yesterday. There was a chilly westerly wind, but at least it wasn't raining!
My route was slightly more hilly than usual, giving me a time of 30.12, but I benefited from a final km with the wind behind me - 5.44.π Happy running!
Late to the party today! Iβve spent the day rearranging a couple of rooms with my daughter (who wants to commandeer one as a photo studio!)
Anyway, I ran a nasty (not) PR this morning. Vile vile vile! Imagine taking each step, sinking down a little, sploshing a lot and contending with that dastardly easterly wind. At one point my predicted 5k finish time was 43 minutes, but I managed to speed home in 41:33! Gazelles be afraid! π€ͺ
Anyway, I embraced the hilarity of my situation and took comfort in the fact that one day the common will dry out and Iβm probably getting fitter without realising!
Happy running everyone. Hope youβre all staying warm and dry. π
True to my plan for this week, I did a slow 8km run which took me just over 55 minutes, surprisingly very slightly faster than my other two efforts at that distance. During my cool down walk, the wind changed direction and had a distinct bite to it. Now to do the proper write-up...
Call me a wimp if you like but the weather today was horrendous, and I haven't been out of the house apart from a brief visit to the wheelie bins.
The temptation of the sunshine yesterday was too great to resist so I laced up and did a nice relaxed 5k in my lunchbreak. Another sub-40 minute trot out for me, and this one was without even trying π
Hi damienair ...Iβve just run a lovely, freezing 5k and I absolutely loved it! Itβs currently 0 degrees here, running into a freezing headwind that nearly froze my eyeballs! I got βgazelledβ by one of my sons friends, heβs only 16 and his legs and stride are longer than my whole body!!! Oh to be 16?!! I think this is my first (not) parkrun so hereβs to some more ππΌββοΈπ
Hi Damien! Iβm a bit late posting but Iβm still on the IC so did my (not)parkrun yesterday as a walk around my standard 5k run route. It took me 1hr 3mins but was a glorious day for a (not)parkrun walk! Glad I did do it today - it was foul out there !
Hello Damien. I ran my not parkrun on Wednesday this week with a time of 30.47. We've had small amounts of snow on and off which isn't a problem to run on, I actually quite enjoy it now although when its a bit deeper you can really feel the legs working very hard. Anyway that day the beginning was a bit slippy the middle part was fine and the end was muddy. So quite a mixed bag of surfaces. ππββπββοΈπββοΈ
Hi Damien. I'm celebrating - Hooray! Finally back to 5k this afternoon. I watched the distance rather than the time so was pleasantly surprised to see I had just crept in under 40 mins for my first post injury 5k. It was a rather soggy run. My post run treat was cooking dinner π₯! π€£
Wasn't sure if I'd make a 5km today as I did a 8km yesterday and normally give myself a day's break. But I thought I'd go out for an easy no pressure 5km and I surprised myself at how well I felt, legs felt ok. As well as the 30 day yoga challenge with Adrienne, I've also looked back at the yoga she does specifically for runners and I'm sure it's really helping. Last night was the first time my hips didn't ache all night. Today's run was cold and a bit frosty, but such a beautiful morning and I seem to have got my layers about right now, it's only taken 5 months!! I still want to do my 5km in 30 mins and still haven't managed that, but I know I will at some point, it's getting closer!!
