Good morning to you all. It is Saturday again which means it is time for us to run and pretend it's at a parkrun. Only of course we are not at a parkrun, just running our normal 5K on our own, Social Distancing, all that new normal stuff. I can't wait for the real new normal where we hug friends and high five each other at a real parkrun. But until then we carry on. I think this is week 31 of parkrun being stopped, who would have thought? Anyway, we are running, we are still running. When so many fellow parkrunners have stopped running we have all continued on, not only that but we have new people joining us every week which is fantastic. If your reading this for the first time, welcome. All you have to do is Jog, Walk or Run (and any combination of the 3) for 5K at your own pace and pop back here under this thread afterwards and let us all know how you got on. I slept in this morning. But I'm in my running gear now as I type out this post. So a quick little breakfast for me and I'll be on my way. Looking forward to reading the replies and catching up later. Happy running.

Just finished mine Damien, popped on here and saw you’d posted. Great timing! 😀

34:14 for me today. My legs should have been weary after their HM on Wednesday but they felt quiet sprightly so I let them get on with it. Not a PB, but decent for me so I’m happy.

Chilly and grey - perfect running weather too!

Happy runs (Not) PR-ers, old and new! 🥰

Good morning everyone. We are just back from our run from the campsite to a cycle way with views of the sea and Dunstanburgh castle. I haven't deducted the walking bit yet but it was about 40 minutes because I stopped a few times to take photos for Katnap

I will try to post them later.

We will be going out later for a walk at Bamburgh and hopefully fish and chips at Seahouses.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to RunaroundSue

Oh that sounds great. And proper Fish and Chips later, sounds even better. I'll be cleaning up my Garage for the afternoon.

Damien

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply to damienair

The fish was lovely. We sat inside for the full fish dinner, with bread and butter and a pot of tea. I always have plaice in that chippy because it is the best I have ever tasted, really fresh. The first time I tried it was a takeaway and I went back afterwards to tell them how much I enjoyed it. I didn't mean to scare the lad who cooked it, there was a notice up to let them know if anything was wrong! But when he heard it was a compliment he made sure his boss knew, because it was his first day.

So this morning we ran 5k with a 1km walk across fields before and after. After our lunch we walked another 7km on the beach - the run was easier :)

I cleaned my garage and cooked dinner. We will be soon having meatballs and pasta. Your day sounds so much better. :-)

Morning everyone! 8c and grey here today, but I still just went out in capris and short sleeved t-shirt (attracting a couple of strange looks from dog walkers in padded jackets, gloves and hats 😂) A slightly different route for a bit of variety and a time of 32:26 - 4th week in a row with times within 7 seconds. Not my fastest but consistent! Happy running and happy weekend

Good morning. Hope you've all had a good week.

So ,again this week my 5k was done as part of my ( 2nd )55 minute run on Juju's magic plan.

I was finding it really tough today but still made it. Fastest 5k section was 34:36 so a few seconds faster than last week when it felt easier!

Work that one out!

Happy running everyone.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Week7

34.36 is a very good time as part of a longer run, I have only had 1 sub 35 minute 5K when I have been running more than 5K, it was 34.09 when running my 3rd 10K which was my fastest of the single 10/10K's I have ran in a time of 69.23, happy running to you Week 7, nice to know that you are enjoying your running, it won't be long before you run for 60 minutes and then 10K 👍🏃🏾

I did interval training as part of my 5K today so again will not be logging it as a (not)parkrun. I ran 2.5K first at a 5:45 min/km pace. I then took a little break and ran 500 meters at a 5:30 min/km pace, followed by a 1K interval at a 5:25 min/km pace, 2 minute rest and the 5th kilometre was ran at a 5:16 min/km pace. Total running time was 27:55 , but because they were intervals it does not count. But I am getting faster and I am on track to be sub 30 minutes for 5K again soon. I'm going to attempt a nice easy 10K tomorrow for the first time in ages. Getting back there again. Happy running everyone.

Ross Barkley, the footballer, ran a 16 minute 5k by doing it in bits, pausing his watch then doing another bit - it started a bit of a thing back in April:

I decided to log my first (not)parkrun today 😄

But it was also an intervals run. Do you mean yours didn't count because you were actually stopping between your intervals, Damien?

I was going back and forth about what to do on my run today. Wanted to incorporate a bit of speed, but weekends are a bit tricky because of lots of people strolling along the prom prom prom. But then I thought: fartleks! Great idea!! I can just slow down to a jog when I need to avoid someone 😎💪Then I went digging in my cupboard for a clean top and found my parkrun Apricot, so I thought I would log my run. Been wanting to do (not)parkrun for a while, but it hasn't fitted in with my schedule/fitness.

Not a fast time for me, 27:45, but fun 😊😊😊

Happy running, everone xxx

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to roseabi

Nice. That was a great time. Well done. I did not count mine as I was stopping for 2-3 mins in between intervals. I don't want to log interval training with breaks. But I have logged runs where i have taken walking breaks. But I never stopped on those attempts. I am retraining for sub 30 and trying to get back to 28 mins. I'm an awful long way away from last years 25:36 parkrun PB. But i'll be chasing after (not)parkrun PB's now. Happy Running Abi and well done again.

Thanks Damien! I have a terrible track record of getting myself to parkrun, so I hope this will help get me there more. The (not) part of it does make it a bit easier, Saturdays at 9am, sheesh 😂

And ah, that makes sense re. the intervals breaks! All the best for your retraining xxx

Hi Damien and VRBs, I did my (not) Parkrun as the middle 5K of a 7K run this morning in sunny Bognor🌞😎🏃‍♂️

The 5K followed the Nike Run Club (NRC) app ‘Power Pyramid’ interval session💥💪 It’s a bit different to usual intervals as the session starts and finishes with fast mile pace, with slower intervals between them😳 I did a 1K recovery run before and after the session. I hope that all makes sense!😊

My 5K time, for what it’s worth, was 30:56 so I’m pleased with that🙂👍

Hi Damien,

Unfortunately no (not) parkrun running for me this weekend. I managed a 10k on Monday and I had a 5k planned for this morning but it wasn't to be. I woke up with sciatica, a leftover from an old nursing back injury. I've not had this for a long time so didn't want to risk running. I am hoping to be back next week as I am aiming to do the vitality 10k next weekend.

Happy running everyone.

Hi Damien. This is my first time on the virtual 5k post as I have been working through the Magic Plan until now. Feeling a bit rudderless post 10k, I have made a pledge to run 5ks on Saturdays, come rain or shine, whilst I try to work out what my running looks like post-10k graduation. I ran my 5k today in 37:43 along the woodland trails near my home. Gorgeous colours and lovely to be out there.

Here I am, late to the party again! This morning I'd planned to have a nice easy (not) parkrun after my 10 mile run on Thursday and a 5 mile walk along Southsea seafront yesterday. However due to a Garmin malfunction which saw me travelling at a rather faster speed than usual, I apparently did the first 1k in 4.49 (not true!). Somewhat surprised and confused, I had to guess when my 5k was finished - so my time was 30.10'ish.

Enjoy your 10k tomorrow, Damien.

damienair profile image

Well done Jonathan. Nice time. Sorry I am only replying to you now. My 10K attempt yesterday was a failure. At 5K my right calf muscle was getting sore. I think it was due to the intervals from the day before. So in case of an injury I stopped at 5K, walked for 1K and then ran for 1K. It loosened out a little then. Feels good today. Loads of time to attempt that 10K again.

I finally sneaked in my 5k this afternoon. Bit of a slalom with lots of walkers with dogs out, but everyone emerged unscathed. A steady 31:59 to loosen up after Friday's mad 10k. No sign of any resulting damage so on track for next Sunday's Vitality 10000. I am not sure how to play this week.....do you do tapers for a 10k? Tuesday should be a 5k hill run, but that leaves four days before the race. I will end up putting a run of some sort.....maybe another short one. Hope your 10k went well.

My local running club had a virtual race today - basically run 50 minutes and post your distance to contribute to a team total. So I wasn't expecting to do a parkrun post/time today except that somehow being in a virtual race sped up my feet. It was a bit of an eventful route - I'd thought a flat course would be a good idea so opted for a seaside run along the route I'd used for my first 8k a few weeks ago. However today was a bit of a different run - no wind, but the tide was in, various paths were flooded and it narrowed down the passing room so I had to do quite a few diversions and doubling back to give people space.

But despite all this there was a moment when my watch beeped and I looked down and saw I was still not yet at 30 minutes, and was slightly stunned to realise that I had already passed 5k and still had some time to spare (Strava gave me an estimated PR of 28:56!). I did think that this pace was probably overdoing it for a longer run, and the second half was a bit of an endurance slog, but I managed just over 8.5k in my 50 minutes which was still under the magic 6 minutes per km, bringing me a lot closer to realising my next goal of a sub 60minute 10k! But definitely not on the route I ran today...

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to Blackberrypie

Excellent running and very well done. Yes indeed at that pace you are well on your way to a sub 1 hour 10K. Supper effort over 8K. Well done.

I'm dedicating the first 5k of my slow 9k run on Saturday to (not) parkrun - 45.03.

Down past the rugby club, through the local nature reserve and on to the Leisure Centre and then uphill across the fields to the woods behind the house. It wasn't easy, and I knew I was working hard - especially on the long uphill stretch towards the end, but a nice run overall - and the furthest I have ever run.

This run was the final run of week 6 of the Magic Plan which is hopefully setting me up for the Vitality 10,000 at the end of the month. That will be my graduation run.
