Phew! I can still run across the bridge .....

I've not run further than 5k since 7th Feb, when I did a gentle 10k with Dexy5 , and more importantly since I had the 1 in 10 flu-like side effects following my first Covid jab a few days later. With my recent attempts at 5k falling well short of what I expect to be able to achieve, I decided today was the day for a change of tack. So I hitched a lift with Dexy for the first 2.5k of her (not) parkrun, at around 6'30"/k pace, then set off to see if 10k might be possible. I hoped I might be able to keep up 6'00"/k for the rest of the trip, and the competitive bit of me that won't go away wondered if I might just squeeze in under the hour for the whole thing.

And I'm pleased to report that I actually averaged around 5'45"/k for that last 7.5k, which delivered 59'12" for the 10k. I thought I was slowing quite significantly over the last 2k, but the Garmin stats suggest I actually held things together OK, so happy days :-) . Perhaps my running ability has not suffered any permanent damage after all .........

The photo dates from a run earlier in the week (photo credit Dexy5) - wouldn't it be nice if we felt like we were floating on air all the time?

Happy running everybody - parkrun will return!!

Thanks Al, I really need sub-55 for a "very happy", but I realise that's just me being greedy ;-)

I ran my 40th (not) parkrun this morning, I got a sore leg about a month ago when my slowest ever parkrun time was 55.09, since then my leg has been getting slowly better with times of 42.19, 40.24, 39.39 and today's time was 36.50, so things are improving for me.

Well done UTS - good time after that sort of a break from 10k (beats my PB!). Yes, a great relief when one's worst fears are not realised!

Yes, with a few "real" races looming (Dexy5 does keep entering me for things) I was beginning to wonder if I'd happened upon the downward slope that is ever-steepening. Managing a sub-25 5k and sub-55 10 will be the markers that let me know for sure I've escaped for a bit longer .....

I've also wondered about that slope.........

You look like you are flying with that 40 mph wind behind you.

Well done on your 10k today. The greyhound is back.

I wish. Slightly lame whippet more like :-) . But as long as you keep forcing me out the door ...

I would be so happy to get to sub 60. Might not be your fastest 10k, but still pretty great in my book 👏🏻👏🏻 I did a 10k yesterday too - first 5k just under 32 mins, then crashed and burned at 6k, no energy whatsoever and just couldn’t get back into it, so 10k time was 1:09:01, my slowest for a very long time. Had my first jab on Tuesday afternoon and, although I haven’t consciously had any after effects, maybe that was behind it. Either that or just not a good run 😥

I would think that's definitely an after-effect of the jab, if not exactly a side-effect. Give yourself the weekend off, don't think there's any point in pushing it. On reflection, I may have restarted a day or two early after my little bout with the beastie ....

I can’t not do (not) parkrun tomorrow but then I’ll have a couple of days off, especially as we are having a (not) skiing-this-week-after-all raclette tomorrow. Can’t run on cheese 😂
