Sore feet

I decided to go for a lunchtime run today. Unfortunately a meeting overran and I didn’t stretch properly. 30 minute run covering 4.65k but both my feet are really painful. Looks like I’m going to have to rest until they’re better and get some fitted trainers as soon as the shops open again. Feeling pretty gutted as I’ve really been enjoying running and feel a lot fitter and stronger 😔

Oh poor you nothing worse than sore feet. Can’t you do an online gait?

I don’t know, I’ll do some research 🧐

Thank you so much for your brilliant advice Doris. I found an online shop that does gait analysis for free but they do expect you to buy the shoes from them which I think is fair. So, as soon as I stop hobbling about I’m going to give them a try. Thank you very much 😊

Where on your feet is it hurting most?

On the top of my feet, from the “knuckle” joints up towards my ankle

From that I'd agree with the thought that your laces are too tight.

I’m going to rest them until the pain goes and then try with the laces looser. I think I’ll still get fitted and get new shoes as well though. Thank you very much for giving me advice. I feel I’m doing really well and for the first time I’m enjoying going for a run!

I was doing a little research last night and discovered that your feet can increase by 0.5 to 1 size bigger when running. It may not feel too tight when I tie my laces but if my feet swell it will certainly make the shoes tight. Ibuprofen helps a bit 😊

I went up a whole shoe size when I bought my new running shoes, as like you I read about feet needing more room when you run. All the best with your recovery and new runners!

It might be you are just lacing up your trainers too tight.

Could be, when I can run again I’ll try with them a lot looser

There are brands online which do a free gait analysis with no requirement to buy from them. Runners Need definitely did it in the first lockdown. Good luck!

yes, Runners Need are still doing that - I think you can send a video of you running, and they can analyse it for you and make recommendations.
