A Gentle 3k with a sore hip 😐

So my last run (7.5k) on Wednesday was good and felt fine , Thursday also felt ok but Friday I noticed my right hip/ lower back was aching so decided on a 2nd rest day and just went out for a short walk .

It felt a lot better this morning but not 100 % so I decided to take it easy .

This was always going to be my short run but I decided not to try and make it quick and short as I did not want to aggravate the ache .

So I went out with no expectations and was ready to abandon the run if I needed to.

I just kept a comfortable plod , I still had an ache but there was no pain so decided just to take it to 3k , and to be honest , that was enough .

It has taken me a long time but I have eventually got past the stage of feeling I need to do at least 5k every time I go out !

And in fact Mr Garmin is rewarding me for it .

So as far as Garmin is concerned I am again another year younger and Vo2 Max has risen by 1 .

The numbers are now slowly getting back to where they were before I started having long gaps between my runs .

So I'm happy to keep this mix of runs up now and try to maintain the frequency .

I think the next run will probably be a steady 5k

Happy days 😁

Thanks Tasha, it was enough for today , but it's strange how VO2Max responds ! πŸ€”

Mr Garmin does seem to favour shorter runs of about 15-20 minutes over longer ones.

He certainly does ! I'm wondering also if run frequency has an effect ,

I guess it does as HR may vary more

Isn’t it great when a short run will do? I love longer runs but we often don’t have time so a few rounds of the park and we are happy Glad your hip/back isn’t too bad

Thank you !And yes at least the shorter runs get you out !

My hip actually feels ok now following my run and a hot bath πŸ‘πŸ˜

Thanks πŸ‘ ,but yes a bit of a strange one , but I do sometimes have a few aches here and there 😐

So sensible to try out your hip like that. I've also now learnt that a run is a run, however short or long!

I was advised to do side planks for my hip, but of course your niggle might be for a completely different reason. Glad It was ok after your bath.

Thanks πŸ‘To be honest I often suffer with little niggles here and there after some runs , I'm never really sure why , however i do suffer with slight arthritis problems in one or two places so I never know if it's brought on by that but I have my doubts that I'll ever get much past 10k 😐

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate10β€’ in reply toInstructor57

Same, all sorts of niggles, some of which turn into injuries. I'm like a rusty machine really 🀣 But, of course, running is such a joy it's worth it. We'd probably ache more if we were couch potatoes!Hmmm 10k - that feels a way off again for me. I had been thinking about a half marathon, but maybe not.

I think your right , I am worse if I don't run !I'm not really sure how far I want to get at the moment , I'm just taking it run by run and trying not to put too much pressure on myself over distance

Well done, also for taking it slow and listening to your body. Keep up the good work!

Sounds like the same thing that I sometimes have. Great believer in a long soak in the bath, reading my crinkly paged book πŸ˜‚

Well done Ian, I know what you mean about 5k suddenly becoming the minimum, it’s mad really because at the end of the day a runs a run and it all contributes to your fitness. You did the right thing and listened to your body, hopefully those aches will soon go πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Thanks Geoff, it feels a lot better after a long soak in a bath , and I think I'm going to keep a shorter run in the mix πŸ‘
