...unfortunately, was not able to go out today after a huge snowfall yesterday and it icing over this morning. I was slipping and sliding around even in my hiking boots so there was no way that I was going to attempt a run in these conditions.
I saw some brave runners out and tried to get a peek at their trainers but they were going quite fast
So, it will be at least 2-3 more days before I can get out. Feeling really down and will compensate by some squats and lunges.
Hope you are all enjoying your running and keeping safe!

You were very wise on not running today sofaspud, those runners you saw are probably experienced trail or fell runners, great that you can do exercises inside at home.
Do trail runners only run on trails because these guys were on the icy pavements. I have never heard of fell runners - what do they do? Still learning...I did a glute and hip session yesterday and will do another today. Fingers crossed that this icy stuff will melt by Tuesday!
Trail runners run on trails as you probably know, fell runners run up hills, even some mountains, there are a lot of fell runners who run on the Pennines in the north of England
Thanks Buddy34! It is annoying but I suspect that a small part of me is actually happy for the legitimate reason not to go out!!Glad you found your solution, though!
Hi Couchphoenix! Thanks for your message! I’m doing some indoor workouts and telling myself I will be stronger when I get out there. This will be quite a few days away from running and I’m scared that I will let it go and not come back to it!
Are you doing loads of the NRC runs? Since I got my watch I haven’t been carrying my phone with me and have so missed Coach Bennett.
You’ll go back to running don’t worry, you’re doing indoor workouts so your mojo is perfectly in tact 😁
I’m still doing the NRC Runs, I like CB’s encouragement. The snow and ice on the pavements prevented me going out for 6 days, no indoor workouts for me, I was a right old lazy lump 🤭 but I went out last Thursday and completed 10k and then an extra 2k with our puppy, and although it was a bit tough in parts due to the break, it felt great to be back out there. I had missed it and felt loads better for it. There’s a photo of him on my last post.
I’m planning to go out for another run today. I don’t mind having my phone with me, it’s in an armband holder and I’ve got Aftershokz bone conducting earphones.....get me with all the gear ! 😉
I’ve been running in snow this week and doing lots of walks - I bought a set of yaktrax last week and move them between trainers and walking boots. Other brands as well as some with spikes rather than coils are available. See my post from Monday healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...
Hi Grannyhugs!Indeed - I saw your post about yaktrax and that’s why I was trying to check out those runners’ trainers!
I’ve been thinking about getting some (haven’t researched how to get hold of some decently priced ones in Switzerland) but was wondering if it is worth it when we have so few really icy days (city running). Also, how does it feel to run on a pavement that is partially icy? Is the metal on concrete disturbing?
If I can get into trail running I totally see the benefit of some traction. Any ideas?
I'm with you on not essential for city running. I chose my route today to be on untreated roads as much as possible, running on short bursts of tarmac was ok but if I'd reached longer clear stretches I'd definitely take them off. 80% of the loop round our village is untreated, I took them off for the last 500m on my walk last night as didn't like the feel or the extra effort having them on .
I've not been able to run for a week which is the longest break since I started c25k in June (partly due to weather but also had to go away last minute because my Dad was sick and in the rush forgot kit 🙄) . I feel really fidgety about it but there is still packed snow and ice underfoot. Never thought I would hear myself moaning about not being able to run!!! 😂🏃♀️
I fully agree about that fidgety ness. I’m scared that the couple of days will turn into a week or longer and I’ll find more excuses not to go out. Truth be told, a small part of me is relieved to have a real reason not to go out. But I will do a strength training workout today as compensation/support to future running!
