Slow plod in icy snow

I've wimped out of running most of this week since the weather has been atrocious. I thought that a bit of shopping might be in order as I'd been eyeing up trail shoes for quite a while and wondered if they might do better in icey conditions.

Duly bought shoes and tested them out today. Went to the park that I love to run in but have been avoiding because of the hordes of people. But I was able to run on the snow and frozen grass in the trusty trailys! They were fantastic - i even managed to walk without sliding on the icy pavements! So I was very happy - although it was much harder work running on very uneven ground and 30 mins was definitely enough today. One of my knees was pretty sore at the end as well - maybe it was the uneven ground that did it?

All in all though it was a beautiful day and I am absolutely delighted with my new shoes!!

Oh wow! Get you with new shoes. The seasoned professional now.? They sound like a good investment tho. So good to hear of your renewed enthusiasm. Unfortunately my knee has flared again this last week, even walking is painful. Keep up the motivation. I getting my runs in vicariously 🙈

Oh dear we are right old crocks, aren't we?? Hope your knee is sorted soon. Hopefully mine won't kick off again on the next run.

I'm sure you'll be fine those shoes are new and when you get them broken in you'll be running like a gazelle😊

Well done Fionamags and yes running on grass/ uneven ground is harder as I also found out when I couldn't run on the pavements. Well done you 👏👏👏

Thanks. Its one way of getting away from the multitudes though... Hopefully the knee won't play up again.

Good going Fiona.. lovely bright snow photo too.. what about a photo of the lovely new trailys though? We need some shoe porn.. next post?. 😊

Hahaha yes I'll do a porno post. Need to clean them off first as they are covered in mud. I was a bit too enthusiastic with the test run - jumping in puddles and the like...

Mine were the same today - I didn’t run.. we just did a 4km local circular walk and the ground was completely frozen everywhere so I thought for once this week I wouldn’t have to clean them, then we turned off uphill on a narrow track by the rugby club which must have had more traffic. I ended up ankle deep in liquid mud..! So yet another change of shoes, socks and jeans too.. but it’s always good to get out..😊

Definitely were. I'll use them for walking as well when it's icy.

Good run for you today Fionamags, I have also been running on trail shoes recently, including this morning on my 5K not parkrun, the shoes are excellent, expensive but good value, you say that your knee was a bit sore, that can be expected in those snowy icy conditions, rest a bit and soreness will soon go. 😊 🏃🏾

Thanks good to know. I wish I'd bought trail shoes sooner - they are amazing in ice.

Don’t blame you for being cautious but any reason for new shoes 😁.

In all fairness I was considering trail shoes but wasn’t sure. Will now look into them especially as I have been afeared of icy running. I stumble and fall on smooth dry ground so anything that helps would be grand

I got ones that do both road and trail as I'm not planning any hard core trail running. They really work a treat!

Sounds like you made a good choice on the shoes Fionamags! Sorry to hear that your knee was a bit sore at the end, you were in new shoes on rough ground so that could very well be the reason. Hope it’s ok again soon!

Trails are the best!💕 Yes, they are harder to run on in many ways (though kinder on the joints) and of course you need to be on the look out for trip hazards but they will also make you a stronger runner. 💪 I do sometimes find I have tired knees after a very slippy muddy run - but it's worth it for the fun! There is also, as you say, the bonus of a much quieter run when taking "the road less travelled"! Enjoy your shoes!🙂🏃🏽‍♀️

Lovely photo, great to look at but rubbish for running. New shoes 🎊 we need photos 😊 Great job getting out there and finding a way to still keep moving whatever the weather has in store.

Hope the knees have recovered.

Thanks. Yes it was quite tough running but lovely to get out on such a glorious day. My knee is fine now it was just sore the last minute or so of the run. Shoe porn to follow!
