Run 04/02 - faster but slower?

Hiya,

My run today was a weird one. I had the feeling that I was running faster (a bit too fast) and yet my Garmin tells me I ran my second shortest distance for 30 minutes. My Garmin did also tell me that my step frequency was higher. Normally I am around 158 to 160 spm and today I was between 160 and 170 spm. Is that the reason why it felt like I ran faster? I also felt myself tire quicker too, which does not happen in a normal good run. As I say, it was a really weird run...

RulesI should try to follow to have a good run: Slow Jogging + Jeff at run 4:50 and walk 0:30 + step frequency at around 158/160 spm.

As if I feel these things when I run and adapt them, yeah right 😑.

Cheers, Evy

Weird runs. It must be catching! I bet even Mo Farah has days like this. I certainly hope so!

That’s a big jump in cadence from 160 to 170, that’s definitely going to make you feel like you were going faster. Strange that it didn’t translate into a longer distance though, I guess that means your stride length shortened (as it does naturally) with the faster steps. But maybe there was something else that affected it? Was it the same route you always take? Small inclines can make a huge difference, hills, even slight inclines, really slow me down and wear me out! And wind! That hits me really hard when I run in the wind. And sometimes you will just never know what made one run better than another!I’m doing the jeffing thing too, and I’m back to 1km:30 seconds. It really helps me keep going to the next km when I know I’ve got a walk break if I finish it. Got a PR last time I ran with this ratio!

It was indeed the same route as always and no wind. It is really strange and yes indeed from 160 to 170 is indeed a big jump. I am starting to think I might have to ditch my music feom Armin van Buuren and have to go back to music of 160 bpm. At least then I keep to the 160 instead of my steps jumping around!
