Still No Mud on the Shoes

Another trip out today with the new shoes. It was a misty start but the sun had broken through by the time I got home. I thought I'd better get a run in before the snow arrives at the weekend.

The shoes are doing well so far. I really wanted to get a gait analysis done this time but who knows how long I'll have to wait before I'm not shielding and the right shops are open. So I went for the same brand as last time - Asics, as I know they've been comfortable for me (although quite worn now).

These are much more cushioned than the old worn ones so should be gentler on my old joints! Particularly as I'm sticking to the roads at the moment. The tracks are really bad round here and so slippery even my trail shoes can't cope.

But at least my shoes are staying nice and clean - 6k today with a personal best for 5k. All good! Happy running!

Congratulations on your PB and on still keeping your shoes clean lovely colour 🤩It was really foggy on my run / walk this morning it's literally taken all day to clear. Off to get a bit of sun while I walk the dog

Make the most of it dijep. The weekend forecast isn't good (again!)

Wow, brave colour for winter running, even on roads I was covered in mud splashes today. Glad you are finding them super comfy, it just let's you see what you get used to with your old ones. Great 6k, well done. Happy running 🤗

Thanks Grannyhugs. I had a feeling my old ones had lost their 'bounce' but it creeps up slowly doesn't it. These ones were in the sale so not a lot of colour choice but actually I quite like it but, once I get back on my tracks and footpaths they'll look very different 😱😂

Sale shoes are the best, personally I've never managed to find my size but I do look regularly. They recon 800km running before you need to replace them, I stretched my last pair to 900km which was only 7 months so sale shoes would be great whatever the colour.

Its worth keeping an eye out - the savings can be quite big. I'm not doing your mileage but I must have had them for about 3 years (also use trail shoes so it's not quite as bad as it sounds). Surprising how the km's mount up though.

Ah, that might have answered my question then! 🤔

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

What’s your question that I managed to answer🤣

Peter44 profile image
Peter44Graduate10 in reply to Grannyhugs

How long before replacing old shoes? 🤔

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

Hubby gets new shoes for his birthday each year irrespective of distance, but he only started running more regularly when I took up running. Runners Need said 500 miles to me but I kept going on my last pair because I was too mean to buy a new pair so soon. It’s not until you run in a new pair you realise how worn your old ones are I guess.

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10 in reply to Grannyhugs

That's what happened to me. I did know they weren't so bouncy but I had been waiting to do a gait analysis shop but missed the non-lockdown window. Maybe next time....

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to Lifluf

I’ve been really lucky that in both March and October last year I bought shoes just before lockdown 1 and Scottish level 3. My size and model are never in the sale 😢

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10 in reply to Grannyhugs

Because I knew I was going for Asics I went straight to the asics store - they came straight from Germany

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to Lifluf

🤣 just gone straight to company, guess what, nothing discounted my size and model 🤣 too common. I’m sure they make smaller quantities of their top sellers so that we have to pay premium prices

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10 in reply to Grannyhugs

Aah sorry Grannyhugs. I must have been lucky - I'm a 6.5 and there weren't many to choose from a couple if weeks ago.

I’m delighted you got a great bargain, enjoy many happy hours running 🤗🥰

Should be ok for a bit longer, be nice to go to a running shop for a pair, when they open up again, how much do you pay for a decent pair, mine were £70, asics gel things. 🤔

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

That's how much my last pair were . These were £100 - apparently £40 off!!

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

£120 for my last pair from Run For It, £100 the pair before which were from Runners Need who give you £20 for trading in your old pair.

Peter44 profile image
Peter44Graduate10 in reply to Grannyhugs

Sounds like i need to upgrade then! 🤣

Grannyhugs profile image
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

Never chose anything based on cost high or low. It’s honestly the fit which is the most important. I have awkward feet, I’ve found a style that suits so willing to pay. If there was a £40 pair that performed the same I’d get them no worries

Well done Lifluf, despite the weather you’re getting out there and managing pb’s! Love the shoes, what a colour! Despite my best efforts the shoes I try on and which fit me all seem to be in black or grey! Next time I’m going to try for something brighter!

Hope you're lucky Oldgirlruns. It's sort of pot luck in the sales. Very little choice in colour for 'normal ' size feet but actually, it seems to be the interesting colours that seem to go first with running shoes. I don't think I've seen this peppermint colour before though.

Nice colour - glad you're managing to keep them clean. If they were mine they would have been black on run1. I am like a magnet for muck 😁

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Haha. I'm not really trying, it's just that I'm only running roads at the moment which are quite quiet. It won't last 😊

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate10 in reply to Lifluf

It doesn't matter - even along the pavement somehow I still manage to get black!

Congrats on the 5K PB! 👏

Thank you. Bit of mud won't hurt anyone. So long as its not dog poo!

Birdlady64 profile image

and there's plenty of that around everywhere recently for some reason. 💩

Well done for 6K run and for your PB for 5K! Those shoes look gorgeous! 👏👏👏👍

Weather forecast definitely not looking good, hoping to get my long run in on Saturday before it comes. We’ll see 🤞

Well done, sounds a nice, comfortable 6k, how fast was your 5k time 🤔 glad you were able to keep the new shoes clean ☺ i've been wondering when i should get some new ones, been using the same pair, since early sept, when i started c25k 🤔 like you say, i think there's more snow on the way, this weekend, just as i'm ending my weeks rest from running! ☹

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10 in reply to Peter44

41 mins and 4 secs. I'd like to get below 40 mins this year. Think I might manage it in my new shoes 😁

Peter44 profile image
Peter44Graduate10 in reply to Lifluf

That's a good pace, i've only done one 5k under 40 mins, and was really blowing, at the end! 🥵🥵🥵

Thanks. Once again, it's when I don't try too hard that I do best 🙃

Thank you 😊

Well done and nice colour shoes.! 👏👏😀As you probably read I had a pair of asic trail shoes bought for me from hubby for my birthday next week. I have been out in them and they are really comfy and have a great grip. Never had asics before.

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10 in reply to

This is my second pair. The first were really comfy and lasted well. My only moan is that Asics use really short laces - i can only just tie a double bow with both pairs.

in reply to Lifluf

Yes me too! 👍They are short laces and it is indeed hard to tie a double 🎀bow! I thought it was just me🤣🤣

Ooh love the colour! 😁
