Still running (not)Parkruns in my barefoot shoes

Just got in from my (not)Parkrun, which I ran in my 'barefoot' shoes (no heel lift, thin soles).

I went out on Thursday in my new On Cloudventures, and they are great, I am not sending them back. They got a real test, as half way into the run I discovered the route was 2 - 4 feet under water. So I have labelled it on Strava as a Run/Wade. Ruins the time. 😢

So today I knew I had to find another way to do my 5Km, and just ran a figure-8, which was exactly 5.02Km in 33 minutes including a climb over wet grass.

The barefoot training continues to challenge my calf muscles, but today not nearly so badly as Monday. I hope that extra calf-strength will improve my Parkrun when they finally restart. If you can go out to a pub, then why can't we have a Parkrun?

Hope you are all fit and happy running....

ToF.

🙏

Great running for you in your new barefoot shoes. Sounds like you've found the perfect route for your 5k. Happy running 🤗

I am glad that you enjoyed your (not) parkrun today in your new barefoot shoes, good time as well, that was the time I wanted, in fact I wanted a time of 32.40 but ended up with a time of 34.40, slower than my first parkrun time of 34.15 which will be a year next Saturday, yes, next Saturday is my 1st parkrun runiversary.

Regarding pubs opening again today in England but not where I am in Scotland or Leicester, its all to do with social distancing, in the pubs they will have 1 metres+ spacing, not sure how that would work at parkruns.

Probably the parkruns will be back once social distancing and the wearing of facemasks are over, however, they say that won't be until the scientists find a vaccine and that could be sometime next year, in the meantime enjoy your (not) parkruns.

I'm looking at On shoes so glad to read that you are a fan!

When I swapped to hoka which are 5mm drop, I alternated shoes for a month or more. It took a good 3 months for my heels to get used to them but they’ve fixed my knee issues.

My new Ons are 6mm, I agonised about it, but in the end decided to go with them because of their reputation - they replaced Sauconys which were 5mm. I have Brooks too, which are nearing their end-of-life, but are 11mm. The Tesla barefoots are zero though, and they are actually what I plan to do most runs with.

Save the Ons for long distances.

Thank you. Looking at Hoka now to but I'll go for advice to my local running shop and see. Best Wishes!

Good luck with going flat theoldfellow. I tried the running shoes I bought in January yesterday, and really noticed the drop from 12mm shoes to 8mm. I’m going to need to do Stretching/strengthening exercises before I go beyond 3k In them.

I'm doing gentle Yoga for 15-20 minutes before my training runs. But be careful with the stretches, there is some evidence that stretches before running can lead to injury (not sure if I totally believe it though) shorturl.at/wMSWX

Love to you and UTS,

Oh yes I didn’t mean just before a run; I only do dynamic stretches then. I still do my 5 minute walk too.

I hope you are able to conduct your services again now tof.

No services for me, over 70, still locked out. In fact, no services at our Orthodox Church here at all, all the other clergy are older than me. Today I shall be watching Livestream like last week (after my Yoga).

Nice running. I think that they needed to get the pubs open first so I can try out my new training routes, all of which end at a pub or a chippy 🤣
