It never occurred to me to look at my total kms run. Iβve only just noticed that Strava even gives it to you! When Peter44 mentioned 100km for January in recent posts, I looked at my total and wondered if I could do it. I saw that if I did 8K on Thursday, I could do my usual weekend 10K and Iβd have it! So I did 8K on Thursday as my preparation. The weather forecast for today was cold but clear, no wind. OK then, game on!
Off I went, with purpose and Kate Bush, Hounds of Love πΆ through the headphones. Dressed for the cold with 2 layers, lightweight jacket and running tights. It was definitely chilly. Sun visor of course, I needed it today!
I timed it well for the Whooper Swans. As I jogged slowly by the river for my first couple of kilometres, there were dozens of them flying overhead in their groups. Probably a few hundred and they are very loud - it was a sight to see and hear.
My run was pretty textbook for me. Start steady until Iβm warmed up. Because it was cold, it took longer than usual and I didnβt feel properly warmed up until the 4th kilometre. My first 5 km splits were all slower than 8:00 mins/km and the second half were all faster than 8:00. Thatβs how I like to run 10K. Splits were pretty neat and tidy. It was a really enjoyable run. I saw two other runners this morning, both coming towards me.
On my warm down walk I saw someone walking towards me. As she got nearer, I recognised her as a friend I often walk with. I said something really stupid! I said βI didnβt recognise you, you seemed so small from far awayβ. It wasnβt until after weβd stopped chatting and I carried on walking that I realised and I was laughing when I got back home π
So, no records broken on this run, but it all went according to plan. I was very happy to have achieved 100kms for January, the first time Iβve got to that distance in a month of running, If youβd said to me last January that in a yearβs time I would not only be a runner, with a half marathon under my belt, but that I would run for a total of 100kms for that month, I would have said you were stark raving bonkers!

Well done joining the 100k club Jools2020 enjoy that porridge, moreso as you are a champion ππ₯π
I had a look at the calendar. For me, February will be just one run shorter. January had just one extra run for me which I did on 2nd. However, Iβm not sure yet if itβs something I want to aim for every month, it might be too much pressure! π
Thanks! It was about zero degrees when I left the house, puddles were still frozen, but pretty much perfect conditions to run in. Lightweight jacket stayed on! πββοΈπ
Thanks, Diane - it feels pretty good! You knew I was going to try for it if the weather was ok and although cold, there was no wind and the sun was shining. Very pleased with the 100K πππ
Congratulations to you Jools2020 on running 100K in January, as Imc50 says 'you are now a member of the 100 Kilometers a month Club', which there are a few on this forum, remember February this year has only got 28 days so get that first run of February, starting on Tuesday. π ππΎ
I was looking for the post, delighted you got to 100k for January. If you can do January you can do February π€£ although it is 3 days shorter. Happy running π€

Well done Jools, that sounds a perfect run today, and happy you got to that 100km for the month π it's amazing thinking how far we've all come, in quite a short time! πββοΈπββοΈπͺI've not been out today, felt sick, soon after getting up, went back to bed for a few hours, still dont feel great, might not risk it! βΉ
Thanks, Peter. We have come a long way! I keep a spreadsheet of all my runs and it was great to add my run for today and see that total change to just over 100kms!
Iβm sorry to hear youβre not well. Hopefully youβll feel well enough tomorrow for a run. Take it easy. My mum used to swear by Milk of Magnesia, tasted foul.
Fantastic news! Congratulations on the 100k, and also on the amazing running journey! And you did break your monthly distance if not your pace stats! With so much under your belt already, I loved that you hadnβt spotted the figures on strava. And those swans flying overhead, you must feel them too. Awesome.
