It never occurred to me to look at my total kms run. Iβve only just noticed that Strava even gives it to you! When Peter44 mentioned 100km for January in recent posts, I looked at my total and wondered if I could do it. I saw that if I did 8K on Thursday, I could do my usual weekend 10K and Iβd have it! So I did 8K on Thursday as my preparation. The weather forecast for today was cold but clear, no wind. OK then, game on!
Off I went, with purpose and Kate Bush, Hounds of Love πΆ through the headphones. Dressed for the cold with 2 layers, lightweight jacket and running tights. It was definitely chilly. Sun visor of course, I needed it today!
I timed it well for the Whooper Swans. As I jogged slowly by the river for my first couple of kilometres, there were dozens of them flying overhead in their groups. Probably a few hundred and they are very loud - it was a sight to see and hear.
My run was pretty textbook for me. Start steady until Iβm warmed up. Because it was cold, it took longer than usual and I didnβt feel properly warmed up until the 4th kilometre. My first 5 km splits were all slower than 8:00 mins/km and the second half were all faster than 8:00. Thatβs how I like to run 10K. Splits were pretty neat and tidy. It was a really enjoyable run. I saw two other runners this morning, both coming towards me.
On my warm down walk I saw someone walking towards me. As she got nearer, I recognised her as a friend I often walk with. I said something really stupid! I said βI didnβt recognise you, you seemed so small from far awayβ. It wasnβt until after weβd stopped chatting and I carried on walking that I realised and I was laughing when I got back home π
So, no records broken on this run, but it all went according to plan. I was very happy to have achieved 100kms for January, the first time Iβve got to that distance in a month of running, If youβd said to me last January that in a yearβs time I would not only be a runner, with a half marathon under my belt, but that I would run for a total of 100kms for that month, I would have said you were stark raving bonkers!
