As the weather has been so awful and doesn’t look like getting better any time soon, I decided to push the boat out and get myself some trail shoes, so these little beauties arrived this morning 😍
Of course I had to try them out, so, before the storm arrives, I put on the NRC Bests of the Year 40 minute run and headed out. The shoes are like bouncing on springs but I think I must have sleepwalked through the last year, as I didn’t have an answer for many of the questions 😲 Best news this year was easy - development of effective vaccines. Also, while not a best as such, lesson learned - never again take family and friends for granted or underestimate their power to keep you going when you’ve had enough, even from a distance. A bit soppy for me, but thank you to all VRBs for your part in my year and hopefully next year I will have some answers to those questions!

Yep, running has been a lifeline 🏃♀️ I took a bit of a gamble, but I have Hoka road shoes, so hoped they’d be ok. Slight pressure on the outside of my right foot, which I guess is down to them being more neutral, but not serious
I tried very hard to buy the same Karrimors again, but being as Karrimor is owned by Sports Direct, i got something completely different to what I’d ordered. Such a shame, I love those shoes.
That’s what I thought and various VRBs have sung their praises. Their soles say ‘mega grip’ on them so 🤞🏻 Even though I mostly run on country roads, I’m sure they’ll be better
They sound ideal. Same, I’m mainly country lanes which can get very muddy/slippy and my Brooks are awful in those conditions. The tiniest of puddles and my feet are drenched.
There are some amazing forested trail routes near me that I’d like to try with appropriate footwear 😃👌🏼
Ooo very jealous of those shoes, they will give you many happy miles Yes, vaccine is best news and missing family and friends, but phones and video calling is wonderful,
Snazzeroo Sandie! I love the blue. 😍 I simply wouldn’t be able to run without my trail shoes at the moment. I hope you’ll get many happy muddy miles out of yours! 🏃♀️🏃♀️
Trail shoes are great for this time of year Sandie. Mine aren’t waterproof but feet don’t seem to get cold. I keep one pair of socks for trail running as they do get filthy in muddy puddles.
I don’t think they are waterproof, but they didn’t seem to let in as much water when I was paddling through puddles this morning. I have white socks to go with capris but black with the long leggings. Definitely wash better!
Nice shoes. Awwww, I want something new and shiny now. But the long haul of a tight January caused by an earlier December pay and a late January one is very making my bank manager very nervous about splashing out right now.
I love the NRC guided runs. Haven't done the bests run yet, maybe I will later in the week, but I suspect I'll be in a similar situation as you - unable to answer most of the questions.
Advantage of being retired - the pension arrives on the same day each month and, to be honest, this Xmas was rather cheaper than usual with no visitors ☹️
It really was quite sobering to not be able to recall many high points of the year. Perhaps not surprising, but could’ve tried harder I think
