Let me introduce you to ‘Bert & Ernie 2’, my new Brooks Launch 4s. They arrived this morning and will be tried out tonight for a shortish spin with eldest kitten.
I know lots of people don’t get on with Launch 4s (as I was saying to Hidden , they’re a bit of a Marmite shoe) but they fit me like a glove (especially when I use those special holes at the top to loop the laces trough) and they’ve got a lot of forward bounce for when I really want to go for it.
Not sure about the colour yet; my old pair are bright pink and I wasn’t sure about them either, but I’m sure I’ll get used to them. The old ones have done me 300 miles or so, and are going to have a happy retirement down the gym once I give them a good clean and I’ve broken these newbies in. Just glad I can still get hold of them as all the Launch’s are getting harder and harder to get hold of.
Happy running everyone 😀👏🏃🏻♀️🦆

It will tone down once it gets a bit grubby 😊 anyway, no point complaining about bright to me: I’m the flashy Lycra queen as well as having three pairs of orange running shoes. I have a boring blue pair too, but only because Up & Running didn’t have any colour choice when I bought them. Also the Launches I gave to my daughter were bright turquoise 😂😂😂
Oh I *always* have running shoe envy Wimborne, I’d have a cupboard full if I could 😆 I’m not a teenager about labels, but good quality runners...well, that’s different!!😁
Ooh you’ve done lots of miles in 7 months TailChaser. Well done you. Love the new colour and I hope your trail run went well. The treads on my brooks gts18s are looking a bit thinner now so I might need to look out for replacements soon ....
Oh I wish it were only 7 months Dexy, I’ve not been that keen 😁 I’ve had them since March, so 10 months. I started C25K off very badly in February, then my old Nikes (literally!) disintegrated and I restarted it with Bert & Ernie 1. They’ve done me proud.
Tonight’s run went fine thank you (apart from I had to swap eldest for youngest kitten as eldest was a bit poorly, he’s ok now - dodgy sausage roll I think!) but they rubbed my heels (as expected) so they won’t be regular runners for a bit. Definitely felt the difference - more bouncy and they’ve got some grip, very handy as it was a bit slippy in the fog that had descended.
It says on my Strava feed that they recommend 300-500 miles, other sites say the same numbers but in kilometres. It’s a nice excuse for a treat anyway, especially this time of year when you need more of a push to get out 😁
Ha ha , I saw a post 7 months ago with a picture of your last shoes and thought they were new then. The rubbing heels doesn’t sound good though - do you do the heel lock lacing?
Nice that your kittens are interchangeable as running buddies. In fact you’ve got 3 to choose from with Katnap.
Yes! It’s great, especially as I’m the only one without a head torch! It was very handy tonight as youngest kitten came home just as eldest got home and told us he wasn’t up to it. I’m giving Katnap a rest as he was in a big run with the running club last night.
I think that may have been my trail shoes last time (The Two Runnies 😁), these are ‘just’ road runners. Yep, heel lock lacing done. Don’t think I had them quite tight enough at the top tonight. My old pair took a couple of weeks to bed in, hopefully these will be quicker as I know what to expect (& I have a fresh packet of Compeed if they bite back).
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! Haha this really is shoe porn!! Look at the way you've assembled them 😱🤣 Bert & Ernie couldn't be more seductive if they tried!!🙈 Happy running TC 🤗🦋🦆
Love the names! I’m currently sporting a very fetching Sesame Street sweatshirt from Uniqlo. Reminds me of when my kids were small. In other words I’m old enough to know better than wear such things. Love it though!!
Thank you, they’re the first names that popped into my head!
Sometimes it’s Sesame St but they’ve just been Bert the Cop and Ernie the Cab Driver from It’s a Wonderful Life. Perhaps now I have two pairs they can have one set of Bert & Ernies each?! I’m definitely old enough to know better too tbh 😂
