I think this time of year is tough for many. Add to that the huge additional stresses of our crazy world just now and I think it's understandable that so many of us have days where it just feels easier to stay in, or miss that run or put it off until 'tomorrow'!
I am finding my weekday runs really hard to get out on at the moment. Whereas I would normally run twice during the week after work, this is frequently dropping to once (plus my longer weekend run).
Running helps me navigate my way through the emotional rollercoaster that is life at the moment and I'm sure I speak for many when I say I wouldn't be without it!π
Today's was the muddiest run of the winter so farπ¦ππ½ββοΈ - a 12k slog through mud and puddles but cool and sunny also. Needless to say, the legs now ache but the mind is at peace!!π€
So next time you're delaying and hesitating about that run - take a minute to remind yourself how it feels when it's done...π

Well said Sandraj39 thereβs nothing quite like a run to help sort your head out and make sense of the craziness around us! It doesnβt matter how far or how fast, whether you run or walk, thereβs so much benefit to doing whatever exercise you can, whenever and wherever you can do it! ππ
I couldn't agree more, it literally is just getting out the door, and a few km in you wonder what all the fuss was about and enjoying yourself, and of course the euphoric moment when it's over. π
Thanks for putting into words something that we all know deep down but is easily ignored in difficult times_especially after a tough day!I needed to read this. My mid week run is my "danger zone" so I will be thinking of your post on Wednesday after work when I am making my excuses not to run .
So true Sandra. This is my 3rd running winter and lucky me , being retired, I can run during the day and pick and choose my days, But even so, since Christmas I have been finding it hard to get out more than twice a week. I definitely put it down to all this craziness, and too many people being out on my running routes when they would normally all be at work.
Even the times I am not enjoying the actual run, I still feel better for having done it.
Thanks Sandra, totally agree. Doing RED January has definitely helped me this year as I have to get out every day albeit often only for 2 or 3 Kms but itβs actually becoming a habit- in from work, quick change, run then get on with rest of life.
Totally agree! What I love about this forum is that it makes you realise you're not struggling alone π. I think the key thing is to force yourself to get into your running gear, then it feels a bit more like you have no choice! Glad you got out and felt better for it.
Actually did 25 minutes today (before it poured luckily) and felt so proud of myself. First time out since Christmas. Feel more motivated now especially reading the uplifting chat on this site and there's so many of us struggling a bit at the moment. Onwards....
Well done on your run! It helps to know you are not alone doesnβt it? Reading the replies to my post here will definitely help me get out on my run tomorrow.π
I agree, it is much harder to stay motivated, and getting out on these dark cold days, but the feel good factor is not to be missed. Canβt wait for Some brighter days and get that spring step back βοΈ
Thanks for posting this. Reflects exactly what's going down with so many of us right now.I have to force myself out during the week whether lunch break or evening after work. It's really hard sometimes but I have never ever once regretted it. Just have to remind myself of that fact sometimes.
You have motivated me to run tomorrow despite what the weather will throw at us
Iβve only just spotted this post, it sums up the reason we run perfectly, the legs now ache but the mind is at peace.....they should make a tee shirt with that on... Iβd definitely buy one π
