🥵🥵🥵🥵 A sloggle of a run

I finally had one of those runs that one shouldn’t actually shout about.

But maybe we need to reflect on those bad runs just as much as those yummy runs.

I already felt lethargic the moment I woke up, but hubby and I had promised each other to try a new 7k route as a joint walk-run. He walks, I run ... or rather jog... or today, as it was such a slog, it’s a Niko Niko paced sloggle.

No bounce, I was exhausted just by one bit of hill. Navigating the 10 or so stiles didn’t help either. And I had to stop a couple of times to let my racing heart calm down after just a bit of a climb.

The last time it was this bad with exhaustion, lethargy and racing heart was in week 1 of C25k!

So not sure what was wrong with me today. I’m actually wondering if it is something I added to my nutrition, and the one thing that springs to mind is maca powder. So will leave that out of my smoothies from now.

But at least I know now how it feels when others say they had a awful run.

This was a struggle of a run, but strangely I am glad I am also experiencing that kind of run and still are able to soldier through!

The route was ok, brilliant for a walk but due to the many stiles not great for a run. And the weather was gorgeous!

So thumbs up for weather, thumbs sideways for route and definitely thumbs down for my run!

Wishing everyone a better run that I had!

The photos of your route look lovely but I can imagine navigating 10 stiles was a bit disrupting.

We all experience runs like this eventually and it is often difficult to understand where they come from, especially if all the prep leading up to it has been right. The old saying of “What goes against us makes us stronger” comes to mind here, and so you will be stronger for this run. All part of the happy learning curve of being a runner. You dug deep, so you know how resilient you are. Well done CBDB. 🤗

Ps - loving the term “sloggle”. I’m adding that one to my runner’s dictionary 😉.

👍🏽🙏 yes, I fear it’s now in my running dictionary as well. And yes, I do think having been able to struggle through allows me to know I can even when I feel I can’t. 👍🏽

...as you said, a route for the walking...defo chalk it up for experience. Interesting that you compared it to W1R1 of C25k...and look where you are now!

You never know, you may end up using this route (plus stiles!) as a training run 😂

...also...maybe...a lesson to listen to your body 🤷🏻‍♀️

Definitely. 👍🏽

I think the bad ones just make you even more appreciative of the good ones when they come around. Sloggle is such a great word 👍

Well done for getting it done despite the stiles, racing heart and generally not feeling like it.

👍🏽 thanks. Looking forward to the next one which won’t be a sloggle

10 stiles? On a running route? 😱No wonder it was a sloggle!

Yeah 🤣🤣🤣 needless to say it’s not going to feature in my portfolio of running routes.

But a good one to notch up to experience!

Well that's one for the annals - nice walk shame about the sloggle??? I had mine on Friday so hopefully we're both due a good one next time! Love sloggle btw 🤣🤣

🤣🤣 yeah, I actually now look forward to a short one on a route I know inside and out! Then I’ll put my music on and I’ll be in a completely different world than the one today! Happy running!

It may have been a bad run, but the countryside looks glorious! There's no accounting for either good or bad runs in my experience - at least the only way is up!! Next time you'll probably get a PB and be just as confused!!

🤪😂😃⏱ looking forward to that PB! 😂

Hope you're not coming down with something CBDB. My worst runs are when I'm fighting something off. But at least you got out there. It's also tricky if you have to keep upsetting your pace by climbing over styles.

I'm sure the next one will be smooth and easy 😊

🙏👍🏽Yes, stiles are not my friend! My long-legged stork of a husband just elegantly steps over them as if they are nothing, I negotiate them with my unbendy, stiff-kneed, balance-securing legs as if it is a gigantic mountain 🏔! 🤣🤣

Haha. I think there's a knack to styles - which I haven't got - I normally end up getting my legs tangled up.

Yesss! Tangled legs, that’s what it feels like (“so if I put my right foot here, lift this, turn that, no ... retrace... first turn, left first here...” 🤣🤣 glad it’s not just me!)
