Morning runners! Happy Sunday!
I started my day early with a bit of a crazy notion... A two hour run! It was dark when in left so had my lights on, a lot of country roads on the new route so them and my reflective jacket hopefully made me stand out, it was Sunday morning and roads were quiet and the few cars i did see gave me a nice wide birth and I have them all an appreciative thumbs up as they went by, I was running on the right side of the road into oncoming traffic, the opposite of what I'm used to as a cyclist but I've heard this is the safest method, am I correct?
I purposely kept the pace easy, there were many hills on the route and didn't want to burn out. 5k flew in, even 10k felt like I was warming up and my body kept trying to edge faster and faster, I kept reigning it in when I caught my splits getting too quick.
Around the 15km (a new PB over 15k π) I started to really feel it and doubting myself big time, the voice in my head that had been all smiles and laughter to this point changed and said enoughs enough time to quit! Determined to see our the 2 hours I ignored that gremlin and everytime he wanted to turn one way to be closer to home I turned the other way and ran further!
There was a massive part of me as I was approaching two hours that knew if continued for another half hour I would get a half marathon distance, the idea danced devilishly through my mind for a few minutes but I knew I was hurting now and decided to continue just past the 2 hours and completed my run at a new distance PB of 19km π around 12 miles in old money π€£
Super pleased with that, I've never trained or planned for a half marathon so just doing it randomly would have been a step too far i think. Also take a snack and a drink next time π€¦πΌββοΈπ€£π€£
Seeing the sun rise over the snow capped hills for the first time in a while made the day! Amazing sight π
I hope you all enjoy your Sunday and if your running I hope it's a good one ππ»
