I started my day early with a bit of a crazy notion... A two hour run! It was dark when in left so had my lights on, a lot of country roads on the new route so them and my reflective jacket hopefully made me stand out, it was Sunday morning and roads were quiet and the few cars i did see gave me a nice wide birth and I have them all an appreciative thumbs up as they went by, I was running on the right side of the road into oncoming traffic, the opposite of what I'm used to as a cyclist but I've heard this is the safest method, am I correct?
I purposely kept the pace easy, there were many hills on the route and didn't want to burn out. 5k flew in, even 10k felt like I was warming up and my body kept trying to edge faster and faster, I kept reigning it in when I caught my splits getting too quick.
Around the 15km (a new PB over 15k π) I started to really feel it and doubting myself big time, the voice in my head that had been all smiles and laughter to this point changed and said enoughs enough time to quit! Determined to see our the 2 hours I ignored that gremlin and everytime he wanted to turn one way to be closer to home I turned the other way and ran further!
There was a massive part of me as I was approaching two hours that knew if continued for another half hour I would get a half marathon distance, the idea danced devilishly through my mind for a few minutes but I knew I was hurting now and decided to continue just past the 2 hours and completed my run at a new distance PB of 19km π around 12 miles in old money π€£
Super pleased with that, I've never trained or planned for a half marathon so just doing it randomly would have been a step too far i think. Also take a snack and a drink next time π€¦πΌββοΈπ€£π€£
Seeing the sun rise over the snow capped hills for the first time in a while made the day! Amazing sight π
I hope you all enjoy your Sunday and if your running I hope it's a good one ππ»

Jericho2332 what a run but you've yourself mentioned it......... That D word take a drink definitely stay hydrated especially on a run of that length π.
Well done Jericho, here we go again, a nice little 19k! π€£ and with the sun coming up at the end, just perfect π how are we running for 2 hours, is this really happening π₯΅ your last few km's sounds like mine on fri, i was starting to feel it too. I've run with water, since the start of c25k, a running bottle, which is easy to hold.Anyway, that HM is within touching distance now, so close!!!
Weirdly I used to have water bottle for long walks but have never bothered for running, which is nuts! I don't really like clutter when I'm running but will have to find a solution as my collection of running gear is growing π€£
Yeah bit of a school boy error, never even thought about it. Had a couple of glasses before I left which helped but something to drink on way round and who knows? May have hit that HM distance!
Congratulations, that's a brilliant run. Lost my mojo a bit this week so haven't done s longer run(my long run only 10k) you've inspired me. My Monday morning run I am going to go slow try to increase my time.Longest so far for me 1hr 7 min by 10 minutes
Well done on your 2 hr run at a great pace. You're not far off the half marathon distance, mind over matter and slowing down a bit. I hadn't thought about a 2 he run until I did my 4th 10 mile run last weekend I my super fast son in law pointed out I'd run for a long time, even though hes done a marathon he's never run 2 hrs. You guessed it, my 10 mile run time is 2 hrsπ€£ you'll get your Β½ marathon finished and showered while I'm still running on. Strangely I dont need fuel with me on a 2 hr winter run, had some water and 2 jelly babies on my 1st last summer's 10 mile last summer. I do much of my running on country roads, also lots of walking on them. Rule of thumb - walk so traffic is coming towards you unless there are blind corners etc in which case choose the side where you can be seen best. This does result in me crossing and recrossing twisty roads. I always acknowledge drivers, keeps them from grumbling π€£ happy running π€
Thank you, yeah that's how my legs felt from about 17....by 19 there really was nothing left π€£ sheer stubbornness probably got me from 15 to 19 π€£π€£π€£
Hey hey.. 19k!! Well done matey that is an epic run πͺπΌπͺπΌπ¦π¦ I honestly think you are quite the natural long distance runner, youβre smashing out these long distances now. Just amazing! Did you have a super long playlist to keep you occupied?! I was out for 55mins today, definitely had nothing more in the tank but I know that pig headed thing!! Sometimes I get it too and itβs like βRIGHT Iβm gonna do thisβ helps to get it done, whatever goal youβve got in your sights. Funny now youβve got to start thinking about taking water and snacks with you on your runs π³π³ whoβd have thought it back in W5R3 this would become a very real consideration ππ
Ha! I know it's crazy π€£! Music wise I just used a Spotify dance playlist that somebody else had made, actually this was the second run I'd used it and I just pressed resume so it must be a really long playlist! It's done me for over 30km without stopping are repeating itself ππ»
