Morning all...what’s the weather like where you are? Here in Yorkshire it’s freezing, snowy and icy...black sheet ice as I have just found out as I completed this mornings run...I set off on high ground and it was quite snowy so I was running on the roads except for the occasional hop onto the pavement when I didn’t fancy becoming one of those angel things (like on RollsRoyce) on the front of the approaching vehicle...it was all going well, I felt cold but strong...for the first time this year I had long pants on because I knew it would be at least -3 where I was setting off from! Even so, jacket was off by about 2k...I decided to take the run down to about 5k, I could’ve gone longer but the weather was getting worse and the appeal of home schooling was getting the better of me (not!!!)...I decided to take a short cut through the cemetery on a path I hadn’t been on before, everywhere so far on the lower ground had ice free pavements...but not this one...oh no...sheet ice...and as my foot hit the path it slid...and as my other foot followed I went down like a bag of spuds...feet in the air...next thing I saw was sky..back of head making contact with the concrete at considerable speed....one of those ‘what just happened’ moments!! It was so slippy I could only just keep my feet still to stand up I was like Bambi!!! When I got to my feet I walked for a bit to compose myself and make sure I wasn’t dizzy then once I was out of the cemetery I set off for home...with a little bit more speed in my step to get me home!! So I’m just warning you...it’s treacherous out there so please be careful...I’ve done the fall for everyone now this year so we don’t need anyone else doing any!!
Be careful and run when it’s safe xx

Thanks for taking the fall for us all MC - but you really shouldn't have. Sounds like it could have been worse banging your head. Glad your are OK.
I am heading out at lunchtime for my C25K week 6 run trying to get back to normal - I have been trying to wait for the day to warm up to allow the ice to thaw but even by 1pm there seems to still be a lot around. Today looks to be the same!!
I know GoogleMe ...the other paths in the cemetery seemed clear but this one looked like nobody had been near it for days..now I know why!! Might take a back pack with some grit in it next time out 🤔
Good morning Mummycav, the weather where I am in Central Scotland is brilliant sunshine with a temperature of - 3C, I went at 6K walk at 9.30am, I had to be careful as like where you are it's a bit icy.
Tomorrow morning I will be running my 30th (not) parkrun, the temperature is forecast to be - 6C so I will be well wrapped up with a few extra layers of clothes.
I have just come back from a walk with my neighbours dog Holly, I checked the course that I will be running in the morning, most of it, apart from around the football pitch has been salted, as long as I am careful the run should be OK. 😊 🏃🏾
Oh no! Hope you're ok - beware of concussion. I'm also in Yorkshire and its been very slippy around for a week or two now, and I'm only doing a daily walk. Take care 🙂
Ohh, I think I knew that Wenderwoo ..remind me where abouts?? I had to nip out this afternoon in the car over to Bradford (I hate going there on a good day never mind in the snow!!) and the snow was terrible, cars were crawling along at 20mph...up in Queensbury it was scary! I started this mornings run just down the road from there and it was snowing then so it mustn’t have stopped all day..take care on your walks x
I'm in Wakefield, Newmillerdam to be specific. It hadn't snowed here, but it is now, as I speak! Very cold out on my walk though, but not slippy. I think it might be tomorrow though! Take care x
Love newmillerdam...been there many many times...I’m originally from Dewsbury/Batley so not too far away..sounds like the snow’s passed over us and made its way to you...be careful it will def freeze tonight xx
Ooof, I know what you mean..my last few runs I’ve had biting chilly winds coming at me sideways...the snow was coming down sideways at me this morning x
Oh Mummycav! I feel for you, what a shock when things like that happen! Well I'm in South Devon and it was 1 degree when I went out this morning. Positively balmy. We've had no snow, but lots of icy frosty mornings, which I haven't braved, couldn't get up our steep drive to actually start! You take care 😊
You’re right, one minute you’re running along, next minute you’re looking at sky! I love Devon, the coast line is beautiful 🤩 it’s snowed on and off all day here today, I was loving running in the snow this morning before my Bambi session!! Take care when you do go out x
Oh Ouch indeed Mummycav! That's you and Grannyhugs both going for a tumble this morning. I hope you're still feeling okay? It is a real shock to the system when you go down like that. Liking your post seemed a funny thing to do under the circumstances, but I did it as a way to send a virtual hug 🤗. Take care
I often wish there was a dislike button!! Maybe a thumbs up 👍🏻 and a thumbs down 👎 ...hug gratefully received...no doubt I’ll have a bruise on my left elbow, I must’ve hit that as I landed..and my little finger is a bit achy too but apart from that and a bit of headache, I think I’m ok thank you...you take care too xx
Thank you Cmoi , I seem to be ok so far..I can feel that I’ve bumped my head because of the little headache I’ve got, I never get head aches...if you’re scared to risk it then don’t...there’s nothing worse than running when you’re all tensed up...it will wait for you when the conditions are right x
‘Rub it’ is what my Mum used to say...so I rubbed my head, checked if anyone had seen me (🤣) and set off!! No after effects as yet, just a slight head ache but that might be the GCSE maths I’ve been helping with this aft 🤣🤣😩 x
That’ll be tender for a while. It’s been x2 weeks since I tripped up a kerb...I didn’t even need any ice 🙄... my face is a normal colour now, but my forehead is still slightly tender to touch, and my left fingers are a bit stiff.
I think the worse thing is the shock...”how did that happen?”...kind of thing.
Oooo LottieMW ..your fall sounds horrendous?! What happened?? I’ve only fallen twice in 3 1/2 years so I haven’t done bad...the other fall was at parkrun when I was passing two women who were chit chatting and taking up the whole width of the path while they were running with their dogs! I stumbled on some loose stones on the side of the path and down I went...but I dusted myself off and carried on...only added a couple of minutes to my time...which I was more bothered about than all the blood coming out of my leg!! 🤣🤣 what are we like??? 🤔🙄 x
Ohhh, I did see it..I told you to have a bit of everything with you Xmas pud or mince pies! Gosh that seems so long ago now?! Glad you’re on the mend though xx
Glad you have survived unscathed 😬 . . . no snow down here in Northants but very cold, I was out yesterday morning about 8ish and it was -2. Decided to go "off road" to a local country park rather than on the slippery pavements, it meant de-icing the car and about a 5 min drive but worth it. While I did warm up the gloves never came off for the whole of the 5k 😬 . . . . Take care out there. 🙂
Thank you orangeguy ...nothing that a brew and a custard cream can’t heal 😉 When I got up I tried to walk on the path but it was a complete sheet of ice....I stepped up onto the grass until I got away from it...I’m not going up there again!!
Ouch indeed Mummycav! That sounds really painful- and doesn’t it happen quickly?! One second you’re upright, the next one you’re flat on your back seeing stars! I do hope you’re ok - stay safe out there!
Oh my goodness - it's always a shock when that happens isn't it. Hope you're OK - bumps on the head can be funny things.
We have luckily escaped the worst of the wintry weather down here so far. I haven't encountered any ice on the pavements on my lunchtime runs, but it was icy in the woods today and we had freezing fog this morning.
That’s good Birdlady64 ...freezing pavements means running in the road so I’m not sure what’s more dangerous?! We’ve got to get out there but stay safe at the same time 🤔 x
Daddycav had a treat instore in the shape of a small bottle of fizz and a hug....I’m running everyday in Jan so I’ll be out tomorrow irregardless of my fall today, much to his disgust!! We are tough us runners aren’t we?! x
Yes we are tough, have a good run tomorrow, I planned to run every day in January but i’m afraid work and the vaccine put paid to that At work we preach be kind to each other and ourselves so i shall be our both saturday and sunday as king as the roads aren’t icy
Thank you acountrycabbage its def f a shock when one min you’re Up and then bang you’re on your back...but...I’m here, I’ve got a mild headache...but I’m sure I’ll be ok...I know how head injuries can be serious but honestly I’m fine...I wouldn’t hesitate to get checked out if I thought there was anything wrong...I’m a softy and a proper wimp when it comes to anything hurting!! I think....
Good for you getting out there - but sounded like a nasty tumble you had there. Hope your head is feeling better. I was mincing along at snail speed in the frost and ice the other day - not fun. Beware the cemetery in future! 🙂
Thanks slinky-malinki ....I will avoid it in the future, should’ve just stuck to the roads!! Lesson learned...no no more cemetery for me until the ice and snow do one...you be careful when you run too xxx
How awful and take care. I haven’t been out at all this week due to the weather. I am going out for a walk later with hubby as it is not so icy now. I hope you are okay now and not too sore.
Thank you mango37 ...I’ve got an achy neck and a bruised elbow, but that’s all, could’ve been much worse I suppose...it’s slippy again today so I’ll prob wait until this evening and run on the main road with my lights on...Enjoy your walk...save the running for the thaw!
Sorry to hear you took a tumble Mummycav, it shakes you up when that happens, hope your head is ok, made me wince when I read that, the weather is quite treacherous at the moment and I’m sure everyone will heed your warning.
