I really wanted to run 8K today but didn’t quite have it in my legs. Interestingly the first 1K was the fastest and then I ran on to the Heath where I repeated a loop of incline and decline 3 times and then ran back up onto the flat part by the running track.
It was cold and crisp this morning but I’ve been collecting running gear recently and now have tights, shorts, top and thermal hat. I have dispensed with the Northface jacket in favour of lighter layers (I’m still waiting for a yellow jacket and better gloves to arrive).
My lungs seem to be slowly getting better and I don’t feel that I’m wheezing as much. Sometimes with asthma you have to give yourself a day’s rest and allow your lungs to recover. I did that yesterday and didn’t go out at all. Today’s run definitely benefitted from that rest.
I started my descent off the Heath at 4K today and all I have to do to complete 8K is run another 1K around the Heath. I still haven’t managed to run around the men’s pond because it’s so muddy at the moment but I know exactly what my 10K route is going to be in warmer weather. At the moment I have to keep looping around the less muddy part of the Heath (it was also a bit icy this morning so had to be careful).
The step up towards 10K feels much easier than the C25K did. I’m undoubtedly stronger and with my lungs seemingly improving and me feeling more like a runner, I feel I will make the 10K distance within three weeks to a month.
I’m feeling good about this running malarkey. The real test will be once I’ve achieved 10K and then altering my route to run uphill towards home. Though if I do that I’ll have to miss out on Gail’s coffee. What a conundrum. This morning my extra hot skinny latte and plain croissant felt well earned.
