Bizarrely my FitBit time was faster than the Nike Running Club today. First time that’s happened.
I deliberately started off slower as I was intending on running 7K today if I could manage it. I listened to the NRC 8K guided run and resolved to stop at 7K if I wasn’t too tired. I walked the 7K route yesterday so I knew it involved doing two loops on the Heath and then running onto the path by the running track.
The first day of lockdown seemed to bring out more people and I had already negotiated my way around several dust carts and bin men going about their business. I managed the two loops on the Heath but the path by the running track involved a bit of an incline on the way back and I decided to skip that part and run down past the lido towards Kentish Town as my legs were aching from the extra effort on the loop.
By the time I got to 6K I was at the usual finishing place on the threshold of Camden Town. I wanted to do a couple of circuits of this end part which I’ve done many times on my 5K runs but my legs were done. They were achy and I was struggling so I resolved to fight another day. My second 6K was enough for now and maybe I was trying to move on too quickly.
I have thought long and hard about doing JuJu’s Magic Plan for 10K and I may now join that at the week 4 mark. However, I have serious reservations about the leaps to the longer runs on the third run of every week. The final week goes 4K, 5K and then 10K which strikes me as too big a leap. I know the theory of doing two shorter runs and then the longer run on less achy legs seems sound so maybe I should stop questioning and give it a go.
