Run day and as Elsa says, the cold doesn’t bother me (or something along those lines!). it’s -2 🥶 frosty but not icy and not windy 👍🏻.
5 min warm up walk - no longer today as fingers getting cold, so off I go. I am taking the footpaths as they are not icy, rather than trails which are very muddy if coated in hard frost. I started my audio book ‘running like a girl’ by Alexandra Heminsley - highly recommend- it’s funny, totally relatable and inspirational.
I decide to create a new route which is a mix of two sections from previous routes and importantly includes the steep hill. I have only ever run this hill when forced to as my running club seem to love it 🙄, I on the other hand avoid it at all costs when out on my own (which is 95% of the time). But today felt like I needed a mini challenge. It actually wasn’t that bad at all and I put this down to being very controlled with a slow pace for first 2K today - none of this setting out too fast for once and also being more hydrated and rested than have been for a while. So pleased to have conquered it I carried on to complete my loop at a nice steady pace and actually a bit sad to finish at 5k but things to do.
Nothing much to see on this run - something that did make me smile was a dad all kitted out in his serious run gear with a very young son (who was on his first bike with stabilisers). He was so slow and struggling to manoeuvre the bike his dad just kept running up and down the same 100m stretch of path around local playground whilst his son mastered his steed 🙂
Happy new year running buddies and many congratulations on your many inspirational achievements 🥳
