This runner is Back!!

Wohoo!!! πŸ₯³πŸ™Œ I got out there today! After a 9 day break due to ice and snow, I got out there today, carefully but runningly!

There were still patches of ice and snow, which I stopped to walk over rather than risk falling whilst running. I also only did 4.5k, taking it a bit easy, and I could certainly feel I needed a longer warm-up walk and going slowly then from slow running (even slower than my usual pace) to my normal speed.

But the sun was shining, I was running, music was playing, and zombies were chasing .... and in that moment all was ok. πŸ₯° I missed that feeling and it was so good to have it back.

It was cold and it was beautiful! But I wore

- 2 long-sleeve shirts

- Sleeveless hoodie with zip

- Thin linen scarf which can function as mask

- Woollen ring scarf which can function as hat

- Cap with visor

- Running vest for iPhone

- Leggins

- My track running shoes with 2 pairs of socks

- Winter gloves

Now I need to again make my way slowly back up to 8k to continue on the Magic Plan and pick up where I left off.

Happy running everyone! But watch those icy patches!

Yaaaaaaaay for a returning runner but weren't you overdressed CBDB πŸ₯΅

Noooobbrrrrr πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯ΆπŸ₯ΆπŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Ά it’s still feels very cold here. I could take my gloves off only in the last quarter (normally I do this after the first quarter) and my hoodie on top of my cap came off at that time as well.

My leggins definitely felt too thin.

So πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯ΆπŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Άbrrrrr... 🀣

Yes! I’ll have to think how I will expand distance if the weather stays like this, as there are still icy patches... hubby says: run on the street, as they’re pretty empty anyway. But I’m German and as a German you do NOT run ON THE STREET!!! 🀣🀣🀣🀣

Dexy5 profile image

That’s interesting CBDB, is running on the streets not allowed? Or do people just go to the park or countryside to run?

CBDB profile image

Indeed! I wouldn’t say it’s quite on my side yet, but I’m pretending it is. πŸ˜‰ But the last third of the run felt glorious, bouncy and brilliantly energetic. So I know I could run further and I still have β€˜it’. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Woohoo! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Bet it felt great to be out there again! Where are you? Here in Wales I haven’t honestly noticed much drop in traffic...which is totally different to the first lockdown...and we are not meant to be driving anywhere! πŸ€¨πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I would have melted with all those layers! πŸ₯΅.

...although...woollen head band (for ears), neck warmer, Running vest, long sleeved cycling jersey, fleece top, tights, 3/4 capri shorts, x1 pair of socks and fingerless gloves πŸ˜‚

...by the time I’m home, gloves are in pocket, fleece tied around waist and cycling sleeves rolled up! The back of my neck was actually sweaty on Thursday!

Happy running...stay safe! πŸŒπŸ’πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ₯°β„️❄️❄️

England, Cheshire. In a small city so traffic is down but low anyway. My route is also rather along a commuter road, so quiet on weekends anyway.

Layers: βœ”οΈπŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ yes gloves came off but only in last quarter. Normally I take them off in first quarter of run.

Thanks! πŸŒπŸ’βœ”οΈ

Ah...South Wales...so you’re further north than me ❄️

I’ve just completed week 1 of the distance plan...where are you up to? I found it weird to be thinking of distance and not time ☺️

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to LottieMW

I was at 8k / week 5 but I will have to go back a few weeks to work up to this again, I think.

I never did the time one, as I did the 12-week Fitness Programme as a consolidation programme towards achieving 5k runs, and slowly increased time to 60 minutes.

Well done for starting it!

LottieMW profile image
LottieMWAmbassador in reply to CBDB

Thank you...I like a bit of structure 😊

I’m not going to be so intense with this though...especially as Lockdown restricts me to running from home...trying to find vaguely level routes is not easy 😫

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to LottieMW

For finding routes I use the iOS Footpath app, just in case this helps. It’s a free app that allows you to save 5 routes, beyond that you have to pay but as I use it only for finding routes, it works well for me as a free app. Good luck with finding good routes. πŸ‘πŸ½

You are doing great getting back up to speed. 9 days isn't that long away. I imagine once the warmer weather comes in you will be flying along without all that gear 🀣🀣🀣. Mind you, your photo does make it look pretty cold. Enjoy the extended distances when ice allows - won't be long, surely???? .

Now, you told us about your running gear but you forgot to mention your weapon of choice for zombie attacks? 😁

I think I need to download it, it sure sounds fun. Can you choose the length of time you want to run for or is it fixed?

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to acountrycabbage

Weapon of choice for zombies... my legs as all runner 5 does is run away! 🀣🀣🀣

It’s great fun, and actually is a fully fledged running app. I ran with it for a year on a free subscription but gave myself a subscription at Xmas.

Missions are a set time, but you can:

A) set a time for your run and it will revert to Abeltown Radio, which mixes your music with a scripted DJs who every once in a while come in and chat. This almost has its own narrative arc, so great fun in itself

B) you can set it to play one mission after the other

C) you can just start a mission and after it it will simply switch to AbelRadio

Hope this makes sense. It’s great to start it for free to explore. First 5 missions are free, and then you can download 1 mission per week for free.

Good luck!

Ooh thanks for the description, I should definitely give it a whirl πŸ˜ƒ

You’re braver than me though. I couldn’t listen to it and run in woodland like your pic above, it would give me the heebie jeebies 😬🀣

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to acountrycabbage

Ha ha, I ran today but have zombie chases switched off. So they chase me only once in a while as part of the story. πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ§Ÿβ€β™€οΈ

Likewise first time out since 27th December paths have been too icy in Central Scotland. A lot milder today so shorts were on. Managed 6.47km in 42 mins. Goal is an hour's run by 53rd birthday in May. It was so good just to get the legs moving again.

Great to see and read.

I tried being runner 5 for about 4 runs. The story is great but I found it all too unsettling ha ha - I couldn’t handle it anymore and I’ve abandoned the compound. I guess the Zombies have taken over by now!!! πŸ§Ÿβ€β™€οΈπŸ§ŸπŸ§Ÿβ€β™‚οΈ

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to Kevin41

Yes, and this poor runner 5 is still being chased by them ..., but today ... there was discussion of a vaccine ...

The story at the moment does hit close to home at times, but there is also so much humour in that that I am enjoying it immensely. I have switched zombie chases off, so I get only the one-off zombie chase as part of the story.
