Thankfully there’s no snow or ice down here, though it is cold. I went out just before 2pm – tights, thermal base layer, T-shirt, buff, buff sunvisor (doubling up as earmuffs today) and gloves. The gloves stayed on all run today – a first for me.
This ended up being a nice relaxed 6.17km which I really enjoyed. The only downside was it was along the road – I’m still waiting for the Glastonbury Mud Fest On Steroids (sorry I mean the woods), to dry out a bit so I can get my trailies out and run there. Still I stuck to residential side streets as much as possible, and there was less traffic than usual so it wasn’t too bad.
I’ve been logging my runs and walks since December 21st for the group Distance Challenge over on the Big Boys and Girls, aka Marathon, forum. This Challenge has been great, and it has definitely forced me to get out more over this festive period.
I challenged myself to complete 25 miles of running for the month of December on the Race At Your Pace website – OK not mind blowing, but I wasn’t sure how often I would be able to get out there what with it being Christmas and all. Thankfully 2 weeks off work has made it easier.
Today’s run saw me pass the personal target of running a total of 20.20km for the period of the Challenge – Yay! 😁 I’d already reached a total of 20.20km walking yesterday.
This run also took me to a total of 56.79km for December, or 35.49 miles, so I’m pretty pleased with that. I should have signed up for the 35 miles challenge, oh well never mind – next time!
I will remember this year for obvious reasons, but also as the year in which I was given a wonderful gift – discovering a love for running that I never ever dreamed of!
I wish everyone, and everyone close to you a, happy and healthy 2021. May there be many more happy miles for us all!

Well done for exceeding your challenges this year. I might have made a terrible mistake planning my last run of the year for tomorrow. It’s going to be -4 C. Might have to run on the bank, it’s bound to be slippery. You chose well, running today!
I hope that our love of running continues into 2021! I’m looking forward to a full year of running. 🏃♀️😊
Thanks Julia.Things went a little flat for a while after the Vitality 10,000, but the various group challenges on here certainly livened things up for me and helped to achieve things I never thought I could.
You too have achieved amazing things - especially given everything else that has been going on for you. I wish you a very Happy New Year and hope you find peace and happiness whatever you do and wherever you are.
And good luck for your run tomorrow - be careful out there if it is slippery underfoot!
What a great year Birdlady, I’ve enjoyed reading your posts and how much you’ve really loved getting into running ( and your gear 😃) and a fantastic note to end on with all your records. Happy New Year and may your next running year exceed all your expectations 🤗
Thank you. I have really enjoyed my running journey - and am so grateful for these forums. Nobody else I know gets it.Yes- the gear ha! ha! BTW I found a couple of other things I hadn't counted after I'd posted that!Happy New Year to you too, and wishing you many happy miles.
6.17K run, I am so glad you enjoyed it, no snow yet where you live but you could wake up tomorrow morning and find that a six inch snowfall fell during the night, that would please all the children in your area.
So glad that 2020 gave you what you call "A Love for Running", certainly running and other exercises have eased the stress for many people during 2020.
There's a 40% chance of snow according to the forecast. ❄️🌨️ Yes children will love it. I won't mind as I don't need to go anywhere tomorrow, now that I have done my final run of the year.I've said it before, but finding running has definitely kept me sane during this crazy year we have had.
I have timed the remaining Mince Pies to one each day with the last on Saturday morning when I come back from my not parkrun, I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year.
You have taken on many challenges Birdlady, very well done to you. Love your descriptive run posts, you take us on a journey with you! How lucky are we for having found running to help us through this very difficult year. All the best for 2021 👍😀
