First Run of 2021!

Well, that’s the ice broken, so to speak on a new year of running. I was out early this morning in order to catch a bit of winter sun, even if it was still below freezing. At least the dirt track alongside the canal doesn’t get too icy so it’s still OK to run on, unlike the local country lanes. I did plan on doing 10k today as I thought that would be a good first run to the year, but wasn’t really feeling it so settled with 8k instead, which was fine. I even allowed myself to slow down and take a little easier meaning I finished this 8k five mins slower than the one I did a couple of days ago, not that it’s an issue!

At least on a beautiful morning like this morning it was easy to forget about 2020 for a few minutes and to look forward to 2021, hopefully a better year for all of us. Especially if we all keep running ! Happy New Year everyone !

Well done on the 8k. It's a popular distance. 😉

Was that ever a canal used for transport, or is it more for drainage?

Thanks. Yes it was a ‘proper’ canal as it’s part of the old Nottingham to Grantham canal. Not navigable now, but a good twenty miles or more of accessible tow path, so a brilliant location for running.
